Objectives: TObjectives: This study aims to investigate the effect of alendronate sodium on trabecular bone structure in an osteoporotic rat model.
Materials And Methods: Between May 2006 and July 2006, 60 female Wistar Albino rats aged three months were randomly allocated to three groups: sham operated receiving no treatment (Shm); ovariectomized-alendronate receiving 1 mg/kg/day alendronate sodium (Ovx-A), and ovariectomized-vehicle receiving 1 mL/kg/day physiological saline (Ovx-PS). Both Ovx groups received treatment through gastric gavage for 56 days.
Background: Video assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) lobectomy has a demanding learning curve due to its technical complexity and risk of uncontrollable bleeding. We investigated the case number required for gaining technical proficiency by applying cumulative sum analysis on initial VATS lobectomy operations of a single surgeon.
Methods: CALGB definition was used for the definition of VATS lobectomy.

Objectives: To determine both erythrocyte pyruvate kinase activity (ePKA) at the time of diagnosis of patients with acute leukemia or lymphoma and the differences in the ePKA profiles during the malignant disease and its chemotherapy.
Methods: A prospective, longitudinal clinical study was performed involving 57 patients, 10 were the ones with relapse of acute lymphoblastic leukemia, 32 were the ones with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 15 were the ones with lymphoma. None of the subjects in this study group received treatment or blood transfusion before the study, except the ones diagnosed with relapse of ALL.

A four-year-old female with salbutamol intoxication was referred to our paediatric emergency medicine unit, due to agitation, tremulousness, sinus tachycardia, mild hypokalaemia and hyperglycaemia. On admission the child was agitated and had a noticeable tremor, an axillary temperature of 38 degrees C and a pulse rate of 185 beats/min. She had no identifiable focus of infection on physical examination to explain her fever.

Material And Methods: We made a retrospective review of 655 contrast-enhanced helical CT (CECT) images of patients referred to our department for upper abdominal CT examination during an 8-month period. Of the 655 patients, 70 were eliminated from the study because of improper opacification of the portal venous system.

Six patients with Bardet-Biedl syndrome who have been followed in our clinics for the last 5 years are reported in this study. Of the five classic features of this syndrome; obesity and mental retardation were present in all cases, retinal disturbances were present in five, polydactyly in three and hypogenitalism was observed in all four male patients. Renal involvement, often suggested as a cardinal feature of this syndrome, was described in two patients.

Population genetic studies were carried out on Caucasians from southern Turkey (n = 204 individuals) using the short tandem repeat (STR) systems HumTHO1, HumVWA and HumACTBP2. After electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels, 6 alleles could be identified for HumTHOI, 7 alleles for VWA and 26 alleles for ACTBP2. No significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium could be observed.

Clinical and laboratory evaluation of 60 boys with hemizygous, 12 girls with homozygous, and 11 girls with heterozygous erythrocyte glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency was made during haemolytic crisis.
