Saudi J Anaesth

January 2024

Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia, Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, Dr. Soetomo General Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia.

Background: Activation of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and inflammatory processes are common forms of stress response. The increased stress response is associated with a higher chance of complications. Open hearth surgery is one of the procedures with a high-stress response.

Thrombotic events are highly prevalent in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), especially in patients presenting with risk factors of adverse outcomes such as obesity. Recently, the associations between the angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) pathway and thrombosis have been reported. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) and angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are widely used cardiovascular pharmacologic agents that upregulate ACE2 levels.

Objective: Airway management has undergone a dramatic transformation since the arrival of video laryngoscope (VL). VL has higher intubation success rate on first try and lower complications in comparison to direct laryngoscope (DL). The use of VL is recommended in intubating COVID-19 patients to speed up intubation time and reduce failure rate.

with an alternative name, Butterfly pea, is increasingly being explored for medical purposes and the development of a wide range of processed products. This study aimed to incorporate Butterfly pea into an innovative probiotic drink through a symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast (SCOBY) fermentation and to evaluate the biological activity. The benefits of the drink, referred to as butterfly pea flower kombucha (KBPF) was determined in vitro and in metabolically disorder mice that receive a diet rich in cholesterol and fat (CFED).

The development of a direct reprogramming method to provide cell availability for regenerative therapy has led to a lot of studies. However, the search for appropriate cell sources and methods is still being carried out until now. Direct reprogramming using microRNA-1 (miR-1) is an option to obtain cardiomyocytes from other cells because miR-1 has evidence to play a role in the development of cardiac muscle cells in the embryo.

The innate immune system identifies exogenous threats or endogenous stress through germline-encoded receptors called pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) that initiate consecutive downstream signaling pathways to control immune responses. However, the contribution of the immune system and inflammation to fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (ILD) remains poorly understood. Immunoreceptor tyrosine-based motif-bearing C-type lectin-like receptors (CTLRs) may interact with various immune cells during tissue injury and wound repair processes.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypospadias Overview
  • : Hypospadias is a common congenital condition that is increasingly diagnosed worldwide, with surgery being a common treatment; however, complications, particularly urethrocutaneous fistulas, still arise despite advancements in surgical techniques.
  • Study Objective
  • : This research aims to identify risk factors associated with the development of urethrocutaneous fistulas post-hypospadias surgery by analyzing data from multiple hospitals across Indonesia.
  • Methodology and Results
  • : A retrospective study was conducted involving 591 cases from 12 hospitals, focusing on factors such as repair technique and neourethra length. The majority of patients were older than four years at the time of surgery, and various surgical methods

Focusing on Adenosine Receptors as a Potential Targeted Therapy in Human Diseases.

Cells

March 2020

Division of Respiratory Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, 7-5-1 Kusunoki-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe, 650-0017, Japan.

Adenosine is involved in a range of physiological and pathological effects through membrane-bound receptors linked to G proteins. There are four subtypes of adenosine receptors, described as AAR, AAR, AAR, and AAR, which are the center of cAMP signal pathway-based drug development. Several types of agonists, partial agonists or antagonists, and allosteric substances have been synthesized from these receptors as new therapeutic drug candidates.
