OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the rates of IgG and IgM antibodies against cytomegalovirus, rubella, and Toxoplasma gondii (all of which may cause congenital infections) in women of childbearing age who were admitted to Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University Training and Research Hospital. METHODS Between January 2015 and December 2017, Toxoplasma gondii, rubella, and cytomegalovirus IgM and IgG antibody levels were studied using the ELISA method (Architect i2000SR, Abbott, Germany) in patients aged 15 to 45 who attended the obstetrics and gynecology outpatient clinics. Toxoplasma gondii and cytomegalovirus IgG avidity levels were analyzed retrospectively.

Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), substance P and dural mast cells are main contributors in neurogenic inflammation underlying migraine pathophysiology. Modulation of endocannabinoid system attenuates migraine pain, but its mechanisms of action remain unclear. We investigated receptor mechanisms mediating anti-neuroinflammatory effects of endocannabinoid system modulation in in vivo migraine model and ex vivo hemiskull preparations in rats.

Objective: The present study aimed to investigate the possible anti-neuropathic effects of daily pulsed magnetic field treatments (PMF) in streptozotocin (60 mg/kg) induced 4 weeks diabetic (type-1) wistar rats (6-8 months).
Materials And Methods: Body mass, blood glucose and thermal and mechanical sensations were evaluated during the PMF or sham-PMF in diabetic or non-diabetic rats (n = 7/group). After the measurements of motor nerve conduction velocities (MNCV), the levels of several biomarkers for oxidative stress, apoptosis and angiogenesis in spinal cord and sciatic nerve were measured.

Antiinflammatory properties of pulsed magnetic field (PMF) treatments or administration of antiLy6G antibody have been previously reported. In this study, we hypothesized that, the combination of PMF treatments and antiLy6G administration may synergistically potentiate their antiinflammatory actions. The effects of the combination of PMF treatments and antiLy6G administration were investigated by examining the inflammatory signs, histopathological properties of the inflamed site, and measuring the macrophage inflammatory protein-1 alpha (MIP-1α/CCL3) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) levels of inflamed paw tissues in rats with carrageenan-induced acute paw inflammation.

We aimed to investigate the impact of oxytocin on serum thiol/disulphide and malonylyldialdehyde (MDA)/glutathione balance under acute stress (AS) and chronic stress (CS) exposure in rats. Animals were allocated into control (C), AS and CS groups, then the groups subdivided as intranasal oxytocin or saline applied groups, randomly. Animals in the AS or CS groups were exposed to combined cold-immobilisation stress.

Objective: Periodontitis may stimulate infectious and immune response and cause the development of atherogenesis, coronary heart disease, and myocardial infarction. The aim of this study was to compare the plateletcrit (PCT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) levels derived from complete blood count (CBC) tests in patients suffering from stage 3 periodontitis with those of healthy individuals without periodontal disease.
Methods: The study included 57 patients (28 females and 29 males) with Stage 3 Periodontitis and 57 volunteering individuals (31 females and 26 males) who were periodontally healthy.

: The Sysmex Coagulation System-2500 (CS-2500) is a fully automated coagulation analyzer that uses the optical reaction method. In this study, we aimed to evaluate performance characteristics of the CS-2500 in two coagulation tests [prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT)] at our hospital laboratory. PT and aPTT measurements were performed using the CS-2500 and STA-Compact Diagnostica Stago coagulometers (STA-Compact).

Objectives: The synovial membrane and fluid are involved in the pathogenesis of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. This study aims to assess the relationship between matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2), chemerin and prostaglandin (PGE) levels in the synovial fluid (SF) and saliva of patients with TMJ disorder regarding their role in inflammation and the value of being a candidate for predictive biomarkers in the disease. Also, it is aimed to find out whether chemerin's main function triggers the formation inflammatory cytokine markers in the associated area.

In this study, we hypothesized that reduction of immune cell activation as well as their oxidant or inflammatory mediators with minocycline (MCN), liposome-encapsulated clodronate (LEC), or anti-Ly6G treatments can be neuroprotective approaches in diabetic neuropathy. MCN (40 mg/kg) for reduction of microglial activation, LEC (25 mg/kg) for of macrophage inhibition, or anti-Ly6G (150 μg/kg) for neutrophil suppression injected to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats twice, 3 days, and 1 week (half dose) after STZ. Animal mass and blood glucose levels were measured; thermal and mechanical sensitivities were tested for in pain sensations.

Purpose: Acute pulmonary embolism (APE) is a life-threating cardiothoracic thromboembolic emergency in which right ventricle dysfunction (RVD) is a major concern. In the present study, we examined the hepatic veins (HVs) blood flow with pulsed-wave spectral Doppler ultrasonography to determine its relationship with the simplified pulmonary embolism severity index (sPESI) and the patient's RVD status.
Methods: We divided the 243 patients who met the inclusion criteria into two groups based on both their sPESI scores and their RVD status.

Two main contributors of sterile neurogenic inflammation underlying migraine pain, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), and meningeal mast cells (MMCs) play a key role in the activation of the inflammatory cascade resulting in the sensitization of trigeminal nociceptors. It is well established that phytochemical agent thymoquinone exhibits multiple anti-inflammatory effects in different in vitro and in vivo models of neuroinflammation. But its effects on the CGRP release and meningeal mast cells are unknown.

L-Arginine pathway metabolites appear to play differential roles in the pathogenesis of major depressive disorder (MDD). Studies have revealed an antidepressant and anxiolytic effect of agmatine and putrescine. Possible mechanisms of these effects include inhibition of nitric oxide synthase and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptors.
