Objectives: To describe the prevalence and incidence of osteoarthritis as well as years lived with disability (YLDs) due to osteoarthritis in 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021 by age, sex and socio-demographic index (SDI, a composite of socio-demographic factors).
Methods: Data were acquired from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2021 (GBD 2021). The burden of osteoarthritis was estimated for 204 countries and territories from 1990 to 2021by incidence, prevalence and YLDs.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) increases the risk of colorectal cancer, and it has the potential to diminish the quality of life. Clinical and experimental evidence demonstrate protective aspects of parasitic helminth infection against IBD. However, studies on the inhibition of inflammation by helminth infection have overlooked a key determinant of health: the gut microbiota.

Background: Although goal-directed perfusion (GDP) during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) has been discussed extensively in adult studies, no pediatric indexed oxygen delivery (Doi) thresholds are universally accepted, and no pediatric randomized controlled trial has been reported. This study aimed to determine whether the GDP initiative (maintaining Doi ≥360 mL/min/m during CPB) could reduce the incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) after pediatric cardiac operation and improve clinical outcomes.
Methods: This single-center randomized controlled trial enrolled 312 pediatric patients, who were randomized to receive either the GDP strategy or a conventional perfusion strategy during CPB.

Since December 2019, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has been spreading worldwide with devastating immediate or long-term effects on people's health. Although the lungs are the primary organ affected by COVID-19, individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 also develop systemic lesions involving multiple organs throughout the body, such as the cardiovascular system. Emerging evidence reveals that COVID-19 could generate myocardial fibrosis, termed "COVID-19-associated myocardial fibrosis.

Background: Although progress has been made in the treatment of LAUD, the survival rate for patients remains poor. An in-depth grasp of the molecular pathways implicated in LUAD progression is vital for improving diagnosis and treatment strategies. This study aims to explore novel molecular mechanisms driving LUAD progression and identify new potential prognostic biomarkers for LAUD patients.

The primary aim of this research was to explore the functions of Wtap and Ythdf1 in regulating neuronal Lipocalin-2 (Lcn2) through m6A modification in traumatic brain injury (TBI). By employing transcriptome sequencing and enrichment analysis, we identified the Wtap/Ythdf1-mediated Lcn2 m6A modification pathway as crucial in TBI. In our in vitro experiments using primary cortical neurons, knockout of Wtap and Ythdf1 led to the inhibition of Lcn2 m6A modification, resulting in reduced neuronal death and inflammation.

Purpose: Although brain metastasis (BM) from gastric cancer (GC) is relatively uncommon, its incidence has been increasing owing to advancements in treatment modalities. Unfortunately, patients diagnosed with BM from gastric cancer have poor life expectancy. Our study aims to establish a predictive model for brain metastasis in advanced gastric cancer patients, thus enabling the timely diagnosis of brain metastasis.

Objective: To evaluate the safety and effectiveness of applying self-stabilizing zero-profile three-dimensional (3D) printed artificial vertebral bodies in anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF) for cervical spondylotic myelopathy.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 37 patients diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy who underwent single-level ACCF using either self-stabilizing zero-profile 3D-printed artificial vertebral bodies ( =15, treatment group) or conventional 3D-printed artificial vertebral bodies with titanium plates ( =22, control group) between January 2022 and February 2023. There was no significant difference in age, gender, lesion segment, disease duration, and preoperative Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score between the two groups ( >0.

To observe the clinical efficacy of a 3D printed self-stable zero-profile artificial vertebral body for anterior cervical corpectomy decompression and fusion in the treatment of ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) of the cervical spine. In this prospective randomized controlled trial, patients diagnosed with OPLL in Luohe Central Hospital from January to July 2022 were divided into a zero-profile group (3D printed self-stable zero-profile artificial vertebral body was used for internal fixation and fusion after anterior cervical subtotal decompression,) and titanium-mesh group (titanium-mesh and titanium plate were used for internal fixation and fusion after anterior cervical subtotal decompression) according to envelope random method. Operation time, intraoperative blood loss, Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score and improvement rate, incidence of postoperative prosthesis subsidence, and bone graft fusion were recorded and compared between the two groups.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) encompasses Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Reports have highlighted the potential use of helminths or their byproducts as a possible treatment for IBD; however, the mechanisms underlying their ability to modulate inflammation remain incompletely understood. In the present study, we analyze the possible mechanism of a serine protease inhibitor from adult T.

Objective: Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) is the most common cause of drug-resistant epilepsy and can be treated surgically to control seizures. In this study, we analyzed the relevant research literature in the field of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) treatment to understand the background, hotspots, and trends in TLE treatment research.
Methods: We discussed the trend, frontier, and hotspot of scientific output in TLE treatment research in the world in the last 20 years by searching the core collection of the Web of Science database.

Background: Chemokines are critical players in the local immune responses to tumors. CCL17 (thymus and activation-regulated chemokine, TARC) and CCL22 (macrophage-derived chemokine, MDC) can attract CCR4-bearing cells involving the immune landscape of cancer. However, their direct roles and functional states in tumors remain largely unclear.

Cisplatin is commonly used in combination with other cytotoxic agents as a standard treatment regimen for a variety of solid tumors, such as lung, ovarian, testicular, and head and neck cancers. However, the effectiveness of cisplatin is accompanied by toxic side effects, for instance, nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity. The response of tumors to cisplatin treatment involves multiple physiological processes, and the efficacy of chemotherapy is limited by the intrinsic and acquired resistance of tumor cells.

Background: Cesarean birth is associated with a higher prevalence of delayed onset of lactogenesis II (DOLII) than vaginal birth. DOLII refers to the delayed initiation of copious milk production beyond 72 h after birth. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of, and factors associated with, DOLII among women who delivered via Cesarean section in China.

Ceramides, the key component of sphingolipid metabolism and second messengers, have been associated with neurodegenerative diseases progression and pathology, and can induce neuronal apoptosis and necrosis, but the effect of ceramide on parthanatos has not been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the ceramide-mediated parthanatos pathway and the role of macrophage inhibitory factor (MIF) in parthanatos. We found that ceramide significantly diminished the viability and induced the death of primary cortical neurons.
