The purposes of this study were to integrate the types of interconnecting fibers among components of the chiasma plantare and to deduce their flexion actions. The chiasma plantare and the long flexor tendons in 52 cadaveric feet (26 left feet and 25 right feet) were dissected and removed via gross anatomic dissection. The connections among the flexor digitorum longus (FDL), flexor hallucis longus (FHL), and quadratus plantae (QP) were then classified and analyzed.

Background: Dysregulation of the coagulation cascade and fibrinolysis system may play an etiologic role in many diseases. Allergic diseases such as bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, and conjunctivitis are also associated with fibrin accumulation caused by a change in hemostasis. However, only a few studies have dealt with the relationship between allergic rhinitis (AR) and the coagulation system.

Amyloid precursor proteins (APPs) are processed by β-, γ-, and ε-secretases and caspase-3 to generate C-terminal fragments of APP (APP-CTFs), which may contribute to the pathology of Alzheimer's disease (AD). In addition to amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles, AD brains contain Hirano bodies, which are rod-like structures mostly composed of actin and the actin-binding protein, cofilin. However, the mechanisms underlying the formation of cofilin-actin rods are still unknown.

Cardiac ischemia and reperfusion (IR) injury induces excessive emission of deleterious reactive O and N species (ROS/RNS), including the non-radical oxidant peroxynitrite (ONOO) that can cause mitochondria dysfunction and cell death. In this study, we explored whether IR injury in isolated hearts induces tyrosine nitration of adenine nucleotide translocase (ANT) and alters its interaction with the voltage-dependent anion channel 1 (VDAC1). We found that IR injury induced tyrosine nitration of ANT and that exposure of isolated cardiac mitochondria to ONOO induced ANT tyrosine, Y, nitration.

This meta-analysis aimed to assess the association of common TLR9 and TLR2 gene polymorphisms (TLR9 1486 T/C, TLR9 G2848A, and TLR2-196 to -174 del/ins) with cervical cancer risk. Studies were searched in Scopus, Pubmed, Embase, and CNKI until December 2017. Both fixed-effects and random-effects models were applied to combine odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI).

An outbreak of severe pseudorabies virus (PRV) infection in farmed mink occurred in northern China in late 2014, causing significant economic losses in the local fur industry. Here, we report the first case of a PRV outbreak in mink in northeastern China, caused by feeding farmed mink with raw pork or organs contaminated by PRV. Mink infected with virulent PRV exhibited diarrhea, neurologic signs, and higher mortality, which can be misdiagnosed as highly pathogenic mink enteritis virus (MEV), canine distemper virus (CDV), and food poisoning.

Diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM), a serious complication of diabetes mellitus, is associated with changes in myocardial structure and function. This study sought to explore the ability of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) to modulate DCM and its related mechanisms. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were injected with streptozotocin (STZ, 60 mg/kg) to mimic diabetes mellitus.

In this study, the ErbB3-binding protein (Ebp1) and p53 protein expression in cervical cancer tissues, and its significance in the prognosis of the disease was investigated. Ebp1 and p53 protein expression was detected by immunohistochemical analysis in cervical cancer tissues (N = 60) and normal tissues adjacent to the cancer tissues (N = 60). The rates of positive Ebp1 and p53 protein expression were 35.

Background And Objective: The significant efficacy of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has been approved for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with activating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations. No clear evidence exists that EGFR-L861Q is sensitive to TKIs, and the best treatment for NSCLC patients with EGFR-L861Q mutation is undetermined. This study aims to discuss the best treatment for advanced NSCLC patients with EGFR-L861Q mutation by analyzing the differences among the structures of wild-type EGFR, activating mutant EGFR-L858R, and EGFR-L861Q mutation.

Aims: Although atrial natriuretic peptide has been shown to attenuate ischemia-reperfusion (IR)-induced kidney injury, the effect of natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR)-B activation on IR-induced acute kidney injury is not well documented. The purpose of the present study was to identify the effect of C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), a selective activator of NPR-B, on the IR-induced acute kidney injury and its mechanisms involved.
Main Methods: Unilaterally nephrectomized rats were insulted by IR in their remnant kidney, and they were randomly divided into three groups: sham, vehicle+IR, and CNP+IR groups.

The aim of this study was to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of BRP, a polysaccharide fraction isolated from Boschniakia rossica, against galactosamine and lipopolysaccharide induced fulminant hepatic failure. Mice were injected with a single dose of galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide with or without pretreatment of BRP. Results showed marked reduction of hepatic necrosis, serum marker enzymes and levels of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6 in BRP pretreated mice when compared with galactosamine/lipopolysaccharide-challenged mice.
