Background: The use of quadriceps tendon (QT) autograft for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has been increasing since 2014. Studies have shown that QT is comparable to hamstring tendon (HT) and bone-patellar tendon-bone (BTB) autografts in terms of outcomes, although QT autograft has lower rates of donor site morbidity. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses have been previously conducted on this topic, although none have focused solely on data of patients at least 5 years out from surgery.

As technology in mechanical circulatory support continues to advance, so does the utilization of durable left ventricular assist devices (LVADs). We present the first reported case of HeartMate 3 (HM3) LVAD bend relief disconnection causing laceration of the outflow graft. Our patient is a 34 year old male with end-stage heart failure status post-HM3 implantation with recent debridement of a driveline infection who presented with weakness and sanguineous drainage 5 days after an episode of heavy lifting associated with a palpable substernal pop.

Persistent Immune Effector Cell Associated Hematotoxicity (ICAHT) is a significant side effect of BCMA CAR T-Cell therapy in patients with relapsed multiple myeloma (MM). The use of stem cell boosts in ICAHT has been described, however studies have been limited by small patient numbers and short follow up. Herein, we report on our multi-institutional experience of ICAHT, defined by an absolute neutrophil count (ANC) of ≤ 1000, thrombocytopenia with a platelet count ≤ 50,000 or/and anemia as hemoglobin (hgb) ≤9 g/dL, in patients who received BCMA CAR T therapy, and the effects of subsequent stem cell boost on hematopoietic reconstitution and clinical outcome.

Psoriasis is associated with cardiometabolic comorbidities, including obesity, diabetes, hyperlipidaemia and hypertension. Many studies that established these associations originated from primarily White and/or relatively affluent populations. To evaluate whether there is a differential risk for cardiometabolic comorbidities in racial/ethnic minorities, we performed a cross-sectional analysis comparing cardiometabolic comorbidities between those with and without psoriasis in a racially and ethnically diverse population of 56 987 low-income patients, stratified by race/ethnicity, and assessed whether race/ethnicity acts as an effect modifier for cardiometabolic comorbidities.

Introduction: The Oncotype Dx Genomic Prostate Score (GPS) is a 17-gene relative expression assay that predicts adverse pathology at prostatectomy. We conducted a novel randomized controlled trial to assess the impact of GPS on urologist's treatment preference for favorable risk prostate cancer (PCa): active surveillance versus active treatment (i.e.

We designed an anonymous survey to identify knowledge gaps regarding correctional medicine and health disparities for justice-affected patients and distributed it to medical students. Fifty-six percent of the 140 students who responded (14% response rate) had some interaction with the criminal justice system and/or a justice-affected person. Most students somewhat agreed to having knowledge of health risks/disparities related to incarceration.

Background: The Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Board of Directors convened a task force to elucidate the current state of workforce, operational, and educational issues being faced by academic medical centers related to advanced practice providers (APPs). The task force surveyed academic emergency department (ED) chairs and residency program directors (PDs).
Methods: The survey was distributed to the Association of Academic Chairs of Emergency Medicine (AACEM)-member chairs and their respective residency PDs in 2021.

Sarcopenia, defined as loss of muscle mass, can occur with aging. We conducted a single-center retrospective analysis to evaluate the impact of muscle quality in multiple myeloma (MM), a hematologic cancer of older adults, undergoing autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation (autoHCT). Healthy muscle was quantified by measuring the percent of high-density muscle within the L3 psoas muscle using a novel computed tomography method in 142 eligible patients.

Unlabelled: Biliary complications (BC) following orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) is strongly associated with inferior patient outcomes and increased healthcare cost. BC in high-acuity patients can be lethal. While the utility of staged biliary reconstruction after liver transplantation (SBRALT) has been reported in adult and pediatric OLT, biliary outcome data are scarce.

Introduction: Systemic light chain (AL) amyloidosis can lead to an acquired coagulopathy secondary to acquired factor X (aFX) deficiency. However, it is not very clear who develops aFX deficiency in AL amyloidosis.
Methods: We therefore undertook this single centre, retrospective study to better characterize AL amyloidosis-associated aFX deficiency.
