COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among caregivers of children under five years old in a pediatric emergency department.

Objective: Children under five years old have a high rate of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) infection, yet rates of vaccination are relatively low. Our qualitative study investigated reasons why caregivers of children ages six months to four years old may be hesitant to vaccinate their children against COVID-19.

Older Adult Misuse of Over-the-Counter Medications: Effectiveness of a Novel Pharmacy-Based Intervention to Improve Patient Safety.

Objectives: Older adults' (ages ≥65) inappropriate over-the-counter medications (OTC) use is prevalent, comprising Drug-Age, Drug-Drug, Drug-Disease, and Drug-Label types. Given that pharmacies sell many OTCs, structurally redesigning pharmacy aisles for improving patient safety (Senior Safe) was conceived to mitigate older adult OTC misuse, using Stop Signs and Behind-the-Counter Signs for high-risk OTCs. This study determined whether Senior Safe reduced high-risk OTCs misuse, while secondarily evaluating misuse changes for all OTCs.

The Fifth Annual Symposium of the Midwest Aging Consortium.

As the healthcare burden caused by an increasingly aging population rapidly rises, a pressing need exists for innovative geroscience research that can elucidate aging mechanisms and precipitate the development of therapeutic interventions to support healthy aging. The Fifth Annual Midwest Aging Consortium Aging Research symposium, held from April 28-30, 2024, was hosted by The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and featured presentations from investigators across the Midwestern United States. This report summarizes the research presented at the symposium, whose topics included cellular senescence and the aging brain, metabolism and metabolic interventions, nutrition, redox mechanisms and biomarkers, and stress mechanisms.

Background: Several plasma biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) have demonstrated diagnostic and analytical robustness. Yet, contradictory results have been obtained regarding their association with standard diagnostic markers of AD. This study aims to investigate the specific relationship between the AD biomarkers currently used in clinical practice and the plasma biomarkers.

Effectiveness of ceftazidime-avibactam versus ceftolozane-tazobactam for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections in the USA (CACTUS): a multicentre, retrospective, observational study.

Background: Ceftolozane-tazobactam and ceftazidime-avibactam are preferred treatment options for multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections; however, real-world comparative effectiveness studies are scarce. The primary aims of this study are to explore how a 2-week rotation at a veterinary medical service-learning clinic (Wisconsin Companion Animal Resources, Education, and Social Services [WisCARES]) improves (a) comfort in working with clients from diverse race and low socioeconomic (SOCI) backgrounds and (2) confidence in leading cases, communication skills, and providing a spectrum of care options. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) can cause immune-related organ dysfunctions, including nephritis, pneumonitis, thyroiditis, hepatitis, colitis and more rarely hematological toxicities like immune-related autoimmune hemolytic anemia (irAIHA). Very few cases of irAIHA associated with immunotherapy have been reported, and treatment protocols remain unclear. This is partly because not all irAIHA cases are Coomb's test positive.

Methods: An 81-question mixed methods survey was distributed to SLFVSP leaders nationwide and Medical Student Educators within the American University Ophthalmology Professors (AUPO) Association. Survey responses were analyzed using Mann Whitney U and Fisher's Exact tests.
