Background: Acidic extracellular pH is a major feature of tumor tissue. Acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs) represent an H(+)-gated subgroup of the degenerin/epithelial Na(+) channel family and are activated by acidic microenvironment. Little is known about the expression and clinical significance of ASICs in solid tumors.

Conventional meta-analyses have shown inconsistent results for the efficacy of various treatments of varicoceles. Therefore, we performed a multiple-treatment meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness and safety of 10 methods of varicocelectomy and embolization/sclerotherapy. We systematically reviewed 35 randomized controlled trials and observational studies, from 1966 to August 5, 2013, which compared any of the following treatments for varococeles: laparoscopic, retroperitoneal, open inguinal and subinguinal varicocelectomy, microsurgical subinguinal and inguinal varicocelectomy, percutaneous venous embolization, Tauber antegrade sclerotherapy, retrograde sclerotherapy and expectant therapy (no treatment).

Homeodomain-interacting protein kinase-2 (Hipk2) has been shown to have important regulatory roles in cancer biology, such as cancer cell proliferation, cell cycle, and cell invasion. However, the contributions of Hipk2 to bladder cancer metastasis remain largely unknown. In the current study, we assayed the expression level of Hipk2 in bladder cancer tissues by real-time PCR, and defined its biological functions.

This report summarizes the authors' clinical experience with perventricular closure of the perimembranous ventricular septal defect (PmVSD) using the concentric occluder as a minimally invasive technique without cardiopulmonary bypass and following transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) guidance. Between July 2011 and March 2013, 61 patients with PmVSD underwent perventricular concentric device closure using a minimally invasive inferior sternotomy approach. The basal diameter of the PmVSD ranged from 2.

Unlabelled: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in diverse biological processes, such as transcriptional regulation, cell growth and tumorigenesis. However, little is known about whether lncRNA-GAS5 (growth arrest-specific 5) regulates bladder cancer progression. In the present study, we found that the GAS5 expression is commonly downregulated in bladder cancer cell lines and human specimens.

Recent studies have shown that diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) can be classified into germinal center B-cell-like (GCB) and non-GCB phenotypes by immunohistochemical staining. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation of immunophenotypic classification with clinicopathological features in Chinese patients with primary gastric DLBCL to further our knowledge of this disease. Seventy-three patients with a histopathological diagnosis of primary gastric DLBCL were studied.

Previous studies investigating the association between TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and bladder cancer risk reported controversial results. To quantify the strength of association between TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and bladder cancer risk, we performed this meta-analysis. We searched PubMed, Embase and Wangfang databases for studies relating the association between TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and bladder cancer risk.

Background: Recent studies showed that diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) could be classified into germinal centre B cell-like (GCB) and non-germinal centre B cell-like (non-GCB) phenotypes according to CD10,Bcl-6 and MUM1 expression. But primary gastrointestinal DLBCL has rarely been studied. This study was aimed to investigate the relationship between immunophenotypic classification, therapeutic outcomes and the prognosis of patients with primary gastrointestinal DLBCL.

Objective: To study the protective effect of early application of lytic cocktail on small intestine of severely scalded rats.
Methods: Sixty-six male SD rats were divided into sham injury group (SI, n=6), scald group (S, n=30) and scald+lytic cocktail group (SL, n=30) according to the random number table. After anesthesia, rats in the latter 2 groups were inflicted with 30% full-thickness scald, while rats in S group were sham scalded with 37 degrees C water.

Infection is still the major cause of death in severe burn patients, thus the optimization of antibiotic therapy is an important approach to the annihilation of pathogenic bacteria and the decrease of drug-resistance bacteria. It is urgent for burn surgeons to face the selection pressure of antibiotics and the fungous infections following the incorrect use of antibiotics. Regardless of its complexity, the treatment of sepsis associated with post-burn bacterial infections should be systematical.
