Human airway organoids as 3D models for a toxicity assessment of emerging inhaled pollutants: Tire wear particles.

Three-dimensional (3D) structured organoids have become increasingly promising and effective models, and there is an urgent need for reliable models to assess health effects of inhaled pollutants on the human airway. In our study, we conducted a toxicity assessment of human airway organoids (hAOs) for tire wear particles (TWPs) as an emerging inhaled pollutant. We induced primary human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) to generated human airway organoids, which recapitulated the key features of human airway epithelial cells including basal cells, ciliated cells, goblet cells, and club cells.

Objective: The aim of this case-control study was to explore the association between serum uric acid to high density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (UHR) and the risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Chinese adults.

Methods: A total of 636 patients with NAFLD and 754 controls were enrolled from the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, China, between January and December 2016. All patients completed a comprehensive questionnaire survey and underwent abdominal ultrasound examination and a blood test.

By constructing magnetism-functionalized SCNTs (MSCNTs), we developed a method that enabled protection and simple extraction of SARS-CoV-2 RNA, and the RNA-bound MSCNTs can be directly used for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) detection.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membranous vesicles released by cells that carry a number of biologically important components such as lipids, proteins, and mRNAs. However, some patients may present a poor prognosis due to resistance to chemotherapy. As a metabolite of natural products, sodium butyrate (NaB) could inhibit the proliferation of several malignant cells, but little is known about its combination with cisplatin in the treatment of cervical cancer.

The dietary intake of iron (Fe), zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) from cereal source foods (CSF) were calculated by using Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) and Chinese Food Composition Tables.

Multidisciplinary Treatment for Severe Secondary Raynaud's Phenomenon: A Case Report.

Raynaud's phenomenon is a symptom complex manifested as intermittent fingertip ischemia caused by cold or other sympathetic drivers. Secondary Raynaud's phenomenon is often more severe and could even lead to finger ulceration, making it particularly complicated to treat. We describe a case of severe Raynaud's phenomenon secondary to subclinical hypothyroidism lasting for more than 6 hours in a 65-year-old woman.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the application and photothermal ablation effects and mechanism of copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Systemic factors, primary corneal disease, refractive factors, glaucoma, inflammation, and trauma all can cause a massive loss of HCECs, lead to corneal edema and turbidity, and ultimately induce blindness.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of abdominal adiposity, as measured by abdominal total adipose tissue (TAT), on the accuracy of rapid kilovoltage-switching dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) in a spine phantom model.

Methods: Fresh porcine fat was wrapped around the European Spine Phantom (ESP) and divided into four groups according to the TAT cross-sectional areas, S=0, 100, 200, and 350 cm, to simulate different TAT contents. The hydroxyapatite (HAP) (water) values of each vertebra were measured by DECT, and the BMD values by QCT.
