Three-dimensional (3D) structured organoids have become increasingly promising and effective models, and there is an urgent need for reliable models to assess health effects of inhaled pollutants on the human airway. In our study, we conducted a toxicity assessment of human airway organoids (hAOs) for tire wear particles (TWPs) as an emerging inhaled pollutant. We induced primary human bronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) to generated human airway organoids, which recapitulated the key features of human airway epithelial cells including basal cells, ciliated cells, goblet cells, and club cells.

Background And Objectives: It remains unclear whether the use of the stylet slow-pull (SP) and wet suction (WS) can improve the yield of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle biopsy compared to standard suction (SS). The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic efficacy of the three sampling techniques when using 25G ProCore needles for solid pancreatic lesions.
Materials And Methods: This multicenter single-blind randomized crossover superiority trial enrolled patients with solid pancreatic lesions (n = 300) from four digestive endoscopic centers in China.

Corneal transparency and integrity are essential for obtaining good vision; nevertheless, squamous metaplasia (SQM) of ocular epithelium is a kind of serious blinding corneal diseases, without therapeutic medication in clinic. Here, we found that deficiency of the autoimmune regulator (AIRE) in corneas spontaneously developed corneal plaques. Using corneal abrasion model, we revealed that deletion of Aire not only resulted in delayed corneal re-epithelialization, but also promoted a cell-fate transition from transparent corneal epithelium to keratinized epithelium, histopathologically characterized with SQM based on the transcriptomic analysis.

Misfolding of superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD1) has been correlated with many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis's and Alzheimer's among others. However, it is unclear whether misfolded SOD1 plays a role in another neurodegenerative disease of white matter lesions (WMLs). In this study, a sensitive and specific method based on SERS technique was proposed for quantitative detection of misfolded SOD1 content in WMLs.

The false-negative result of nucleic acid testing is an important cause of continued spread of COVID-19, while SARS-CoV-2 RNA degradation during transportation and nucleic acid extraction can lead to false-negative results. Here, we investigated that single-walled carbon nanotubes (SCNTs) could protect RNA from degradation for at least 4 days at room temperature. By constructing magnetism-functionalized SCNTs (MSCNTs), we developed a method that enabled protection and simple extraction of SARS-CoV-2 RNA, and the RNA-bound MSCNTs can be directly used for reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) detection.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are membranous vesicles released by cells that carry a number of biologically important components such as lipids, proteins, and mRNAs. EVs can mediate cancer cell migration, invasion, angiogenesis, and cell survival, greatly contributing to cell-to-cell communication in the tumor microenvironment. Additionally, EVs have been found to have diagnostic and prognostic significance in various cancers.

Cuproptosis represents a novel copper-dependent regulated cell death, distinct from other known cell death processes. In this report, a comprehensive analysis of cuproptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was conducted using multi-omics including genomics, bulk RNA-seq, single cell RNA-seq and proteomics. ATP7A, PDHA1 and DLST comprised the top 3 mutation genes in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA)-LIHC; 9 cuproptosis-related genes showed significant, independent prognostic values.

Backgrounds: Cisplatin-based chemotherapy has been considered as the pivotal option for treating cervical cancer. However, some patients may present a poor prognosis due to resistance to chemotherapy. As a metabolite of natural products, sodium butyrate (NaB) could inhibit the proliferation of several malignant cells, but little is known about its combination with cisplatin in the treatment of cervical cancer.

Raynaud's phenomenon is a symptom complex manifested as intermittent fingertip ischemia caused by cold or other sympathetic drivers. Secondary Raynaud's phenomenon is often more severe and could even lead to finger ulceration, making it particularly complicated to treat. We describe a case of severe Raynaud's phenomenon secondary to subclinical hypothyroidism lasting for more than 6 hours in a 65-year-old woman.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the application and photothermal ablation effects and mechanism of copper sulfide nanoparticles (CuS NPs) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Sheet-like CuS-BSA NPs with a particle size of 30 nm were synthesized using bovine serum albumin (BSA) as a biological modifier, and were physically characterized. To provide a reference range for the biosafety dose of CuS-BSA NPs, 36 male Kunming mice were randomly assigned into six groups.

Human corneal endothelial cells (HCECs) are the prerequisite for maintaining corneal transparency, but HCECs remain arrested at the G1 phase after embryonic development and can not proliferate and regenerate. Thus, the density of HCECs decreases spontaneously with corneal development. Systemic factors, primary corneal disease, refractive factors, glaucoma, inflammation, and trauma all can cause a massive loss of HCECs, lead to corneal edema and turbidity, and ultimately induce blindness.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the commonest reason for chronic liver diseases in the world and is commonly related to the hepatic manifestation of the metabolic syndrome. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a deteriorating form of NAFLD, which can eventually develop into fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. The reason for NAFLD/NASH development is complicated, such as liver lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, apoptosis and autophagy, liver fibrosis and gut microbiota.

The peptides repertoire presented to CD8 T cells by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules is referred to as the MHC I-associated peptidome (MIP), which regulates thymus development, peripheral survival and function during lifetime of CD8 T cells. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an organ-specific autoimmune disease caused by pancreatic β cells destruction mediated primarily by autoreactive CD8 T cells. Non-obese diabetic (NOD) mouse is an important animal model of T1D.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of abdominal adiposity, as measured by abdominal total adipose tissue (TAT), on the accuracy of rapid kilovoltage-switching dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) and quantitative computed tomography (QCT) measurements of bone mineral density (BMD) in a spine phantom model.
Methods: Fresh porcine fat was wrapped around the European Spine Phantom (ESP) and divided into four groups according to the TAT cross-sectional areas, S=0, 100, 200, and 350 cm, to simulate different TAT contents. The hydroxyapatite (HAP) (water) values of each vertebra were measured by DECT, and the BMD values by QCT.

Stroke causes long-term disability in survivors. BDNF/TrkB plays an important role in synaptic plasticity and synaptic transmission in the central nervous system (CNS), promoting neurological recovery. In this study, we performed non-invasive treatment methods focused on intramuscular injection into stroke-injured forelimb muscles, or intranasal administration using adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors carrying genes encoding BDNF or TrkB.
