Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), especially those targeting programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) and programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1), have introduced a new treatment landscape for many types of tumors. However, they only achieve a limited therapeutic response. Hence, identifying patients who may benefit from ICIs is currently a challenge.

Nattokinase (NK) and red yeast rice (RYR) are both indicated for their potential in cardiovascular disease prevention and management, but their combined effects especially in coronary artery disease (CAD) are scarcely examined. This 90-day randomized, double-blind trial aims to investigate the effect of NK and RYR supplementations on cardiometabolic parameters in patients with stable CAD. 178 CAD patients were randomized to four groups: NK + RYR, NK, RYR, and placebo.

α-Synuclein (α-Syn) is closely related to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Under pathological conditions, the conformation of α-syn changes and different forms of α-syn lead to neurotoxicity. According to Braak stages, α-syn can propagate in different brain regions, inducing neurodegeneration and corresponding clinical manifestations through abnormal aggregation of Lewy bodies (LBs) and lewy axons in different types of neurons in PD.

This case describes the benefits of perioperative chemo-immunotherapy for advanced gastric cancer and incomplete pyloric obstruction, supplemented with nutritional support. Early parenteral nutrition to stabilize nutritional status and mitigate nutrition impact symptoms, and in addition, throughout the chemo-immunotherapy perioperative period also maintained oral nutrition support and a tailored dietary plan. Above nutritional support maintained the patient's physical condition during immunotherapy.

Autoreactive CD8 T cells play a key role in type 1 diabetes (T1D), but the antigen spectrum that activates autoreactive CD8 T cells remains unclear. Endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) has been implicated in β-cell autoantigen generation. Here, we analyzed the major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I)-associated immunopeptidome (MIP) of islet β-cells under steady and ERS conditions and found that ERS reshaped the MIP of β-cells and promoted the MHC-I presentation of a panel of conventional self-peptides.

The incidence of thromboembolic events (TEs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has rarely been reported. The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched. The primary outcome was the incidence of TEs, and the secondary outcome was the relationship between TEs and overall survival (OS) following ICI therapy.

Abnormal Transmembrane protein 9 (TMEM9) expression has been identified in various human tumors. However, the prognostic potential and mechanistic role of TMEM9 in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) remain unclear. Here, we first found a significant upregulation of TMEM9 in LUAD tissues, and TMEM9 expression was positively correlated with microvessel density (MVD), T stage, and clinical stage.

Background And Aims: The impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on pregnant women, especially those with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), has yet to be fully understood. This review aims to examine the interaction between GDM and COVID-19 and to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the comorbidity of these two conditions.
Methods: We performed a systematic literature search using the databases of PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science with appropriate keywords and MeSH terms.

Although LncRNA AA465934 expression is reduced in high glucose (HG)-treated podocytes, its role in HG-mediated podocyte injury and diabetic nephropathy (DN) remains unknown. Herein, we investigated the role of AA465934 in HG-mediated podocyte injury and DN using a spontaneous type II diabetic nephropathy (T2DN) model. The model was created by injecting AA465934 overexpressed adeno-associated virus (AAV) or control into mice.

Macrophages play a crucial role in the inflammatory response following sciatic nerve injury. Studies have demonstrated that C-X-C motif chemokine (CXCL) 1 recruit macrophages by binding to C-X-C chemokine receptor (CXCR) 2 and participates in the inflammatory response of various diseases. Based on these findings, we aimed to explore the role of the CXCL1-CXCR2 axis in the repair process after peripheral nerve injury.

Currently, the clinical efficacy of anti-PD-1/PD-L1 monotherapy strategies against breast cancer is limited, and low response rates need to be improved. Gut microbiota plays a crucial role in the sensitization process of immunotherapy. As a natural dietary supplement, fucoidan has been reported to have immunomodulatory effects, while some studies have found that oral fucoidan may act as a potential prebiotic to modulate the gut microbiota.

High myopia is a risk factor for primary open angle glaucoma (POAG). The pathological mechanism of high myopia induced POAG occurrence is not fully understood. In this study, we successfully established the guinea pig model of ocular hypertension with high myopia, and demonstrated the susceptibility of high myopia for the occurrence of microbead-induced glaucoma compared with non-myopia group and the effect of YAP/TGF-β signaling pathway in TM pathogenesis induced by high myopia.

However, an effective decellularization technique that removes cellular components while preserving the extracellular matrix, the transformation of 2D-ADM into a suitable 3D scaffold with porosity and the enhancement of bioactive and biomechanical properties in the 3D-ADM scaffold are yet to be fully addressed. In this study, we present an innovative decellularization method involving 0.

Objective: To investigate the effect of M2 microglia (M2-MG) transplantation on spinal cord injury (SCI) repair in mice.
Methods: Primary MG were obtained from the cerebral cortex of 15 C57BL/6 mice born 2-3 days old by pancreatic enzyme digestion and identified by immunofluorescence staining of Iba1. Then the primary MG were co-cultured with interleukin 4 for 48 hours (experimental group) to induce into M2 phenotype and identified by immunofluorescence staining of Arginase 1 (Arg-1) and Iba1.

Understanding the mechanisms of resistance of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) to targeted therapies and immune checkpoint blockade is critical for the development of new combination therapies and improving patient survival. Here, we found that in HCC, anti-programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) therapy reduces liver cancer growth, but the tumors eventually become resistant to continued therapy. Experimental analyses shows that the infiltration of pathogenic T helper 17 (pTh17) cells increases in drug-resistant HCC, and pTh17 cells secrete interleukin-17A (IL-17A), which promotes the expression of PD-L1 on the surface of HCC cells and produces resistance to anti-PD-L1 therapy.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a prevalent malignant tumor that poses a major threat to people's lives and health. Previous studies have found that multiple deubiquitinating enzymes are involved in the pathogenesis of HCC. The purpose of this work was to elucidate the function and mechanism of the deubiquitinating enzyme USP40 in HCC progression.
