Although virulence mechanisms targeting gamma interferon (IFN-γ)-induced cell-autonomous antiparasitic immunity have been extensively characterized in mice, the virulence mechanisms in humans remain uncertain, partly because cell-autonomous immune responses against differ markedly between mice and humans. Despite the identification of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) as an anti- host factor in mice, here we show that iNOS in humans is a pro- host factor that promotes the growth of the parasite. The GRA15 effector-dependent disarmament of IFN-γ-induced parasite growth inhibition was evident when parasite-infected monocytes were cocultured with hepatocytes.

The present study was designed to compare the effect of indocyanine green (ICG)-enhanced laser (810 nm) thermocoagulation method and photodynamic therapy (PDT) on circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH). A total of 36 patients (36 pair of eyes) diagnosed with CCH in the Ocular Fundus Disease Center of The Affiliated Hospital of Medical College of Ningbo University from June 2010 to January 2016 were selected and randomly divided into two groups. ICG-enhanced thermocoagulation was used to treat 18 patients (18 pair of eyes), and PDT was used to treat the remaining 18 patients (18 pair of eyes).

Objective: To retrospectively study the clinical results of total hip arthroplasty(THA) using Wagner SL revision stem for patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture.

Methods: From 2006 January to 2009 December, 29 consecutive patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures were performed THA using Wagner SL revision stem and intertrochanteric reconstruction, including 18 males and 11 females with an average age of 49 years old ranging from 43 to 58. Among them, 8 cases were oboslete femoral intertrochanteric fractures and 21 cases were the intertrochanteric fractures with painful arthritis before injuries.

A folate-polyethylene glycol-chitosan derivative was synthesized and its structure was characterized. An optimal perfluorooctyl bromide nanocore template was obtained via utilizing the ultrasonic emulsification method combining with orthogonal design. To determine the safety and efficacy of modular flexible ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy for the treatment of renal and proximal ureteral calculi, a retrospective chart review of a single surgeon's 3-year modular flexible ureteroscopy experience was performed. All of the patients were treated with modular flexible ureteroscopy and holmium laser lithotripsy by a single surgeon. Stone-free status was defined as no fragments or a single fragment ≤4 mm in diameter at the 3-month follow-up.

The routine prenatal maternal serum testing is widely used for screening of birth defects, including Down syndrome, trisomy 18 syndrome and neural tube defects. The testing results are also associated with other adverse pregnant outcomes such as fetal surface structural abnormalities, gestational hypertension disease, intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy, premature rupture of membranes, abortion, stillbirth, intrauterine growth restriction and macrosomia; therefore the abnormal levels of serum markers might be used for predicting these adverse pregnant outcomes.
