Background: Matrix metalloproteinase 11 () plays a vital role in cell proliferation, apoptosis, tumor angiogenesis, migration, and other basic processes. Currently, few studies have examined the value of MMP11 in pancreatic cancer in relation to prognostic risk, diagnostic indicators, and immunotherapy. This study aims to explore the association between and the tumor immune microenvironment in pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD).

KIF4A promotes tumor progression of bladder cancer via CXCL5 dependent myeloid-derived suppressor cells recruitment.

Sci Rep

April 2022

Department of Urology, Lihuili Hospital, Ningbo Medical Center, Medical College of Ningbo University, Ningbo University School of Medicine, Xingning Road 57, Ningbo, 315040, Zhejiang, China.

Although KIF4A has been found to play an important role in a variety of tumors and is closely associated with the activation of immunocytes, its role in bladder cancer (BC) remains unclear. Here, we report increased expression of KIF4A in both lymph node-positive and high grade BC tissues. High expression of KIF4A has been significantly correlated with fewer CD8 tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and a much worse prognosis in patients with BC.

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) have been suggested to play crucial roles in the pathology of NAFLD with a vague understanding of the underlying mechanism. Here, we integrated large-scale literature data and clinical data to explore the potential role of the PPAR-APOA1 signaling pathway in the pathology of NAFLD. First, the signaling pathway connecting PPARs, APOA1, and NAFLD was constructed.

Food additive sodium bisulfite induces intracellular imbalance of biothiols levels in NCM460 colonic cells to trigger intestinal inflammation in mice.

Toxicol Lett

April 2022

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Ningbo Medical Centre Lihuili Hospital, Ningbo University, Ningbo 315040, China. Electronic address:

Sulfites and other preservatives are considered food additives to prevent pathogen growth in food, and they are generally regarded as safe since the late 1950s. However, the possible effects of sulfites on potential damage to host intestinal tissue remain largely unexplored. Given that endogenous sulfite mainly comes from the metabolism of biothiol, we attempted to clarify the relationship among biothiol levels, gut and food additives sulfite, including sodium bisulfite (NaHSO), and the possible mechanism of sulfite affecting the intestine.

Dietary κ-carrageenan facilitates gut microbiota-mediated intestinal inflammation.

Carbohydr Polym

February 2022

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Ningbo Medical Centre Lihuili Hospital, Ningbo University, Ningbo 315040, China. Electronic address:

The inflammatory effects of carrageenan (CGN), a ubiquitous food additive, remains controversial. Gut microbiota and intestinal homeostasis may be a breakthrough in resolving this controversy. Here we show that, κ-CGN did not cause significant inflammatory symptoms, but it did cause reduced bacteria-derived short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and decreased thickness of the mucus layer by altering microbiota composition.

λ-carrageenan exacerbates Citrobacter rodentium-induced infectious colitis in mice by targeting gut microbiota and intestinal barrier integrity.

Pharmacol Res

December 2021

Department of Laboratory Medicine, Ningbo Medical Center Lihuili Hospital, Ningbo University, Ningbo 315040, China. Electronic address:

For nearly half a century, the scientific community has been unable to agree upon the safety profile of carrageenan (CGN), a ubiquitous food additive. Little is known about the mechanisms by which consumption of CGN aggravates the etiopathogenesis of murine colitis. However, analyses of gut microbiota and intestinal barrier integrity have provided a breakthrough in explaining the synergistic effect of CGN upon colitis.
