Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a common malignant gastrointestinal tumor threatening global human health. For patients diagnosed with ESCC, determining the prognosis is a huge challenge. Due to their important role in tumor progression, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) may be putative molecular candidates in the survival prediction of ESCC patients.

Background: Breast cancer (BC), the most common cause of cancer death in women, overtook lung cancer as the leading cause of cancer worldwide in 2020. Although many studies have proposed KIN17 as a biomarker of tumorigenesis in different cancer types, its role in tumor metastasis, particularly in BC metastasis, has been underexplored. This study aimed to explore the role of KIN17 in BC metastasis.

Sepsis is a life-threatening complication of infection closely associated with coagulation abnormalities. Heat shock factor 1 (HSF1) is an important transcription factor involved in many biological processes, but its regulatory role in blood coagulation remained unclear. We generated a sepsis model in HSF1-knockout mice to evaluate the role of HSF1 in microthrombosis and multiple organ dysfunction.

Purpose: High serum insulin-like growth factor binding protein-7 (IGFBP-7) has been found in several malignant tumors. Here, we aimed to assess the diagnostic potential of serum IGFBP7 in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC).
Patients And Methods: An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect IGFBP7 level in the serum of 115 CRC patients and 107 healthy controls, and receiver operating characteristics (ROC) was used to evaluate the accuracy of diagnosis.

The study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of flower extraction (DOFE) on alcohol-induced liver injury and its probable mechanisms in mice. The chemical composition of DOFE was performed via UPLC/MS. Male Kunming mice were used to establish alcohol-induced liver injury models by oral gavage of 56% alcohol.

Objective: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is prevalent worldwide, particularly among elderly women. Although electroacupuncture (EA) has been accepted by many patients and physicians in Asia, its efficacy for SUI has not been evaluated scientifically and systematically. We aimed to conduct a systematic evaluation of the efficacy and safety of EA treatment for women with SUI.

Diabetic nephropathy (DN), one of the main causes of end-stage renal disease, still remains as a challenge of clinical management. This study aimed to determine whether deficiency of the thromboxane (TX) prostanoid receptor (TP), which mediates the contractile activities of all prostanoids, alleviates the development of DN and if so, to examine the underlying mechanism(s). Diabetes was induced by high fat diet and streptozotocin injection in wild-type (WT) mice and those with TP deficiency (TP).

Loss of functional cardiomyocytes by cell death after myocardial infarction is most critical for the subsequent left ventricular remodeling, cardiac dysfunction and heart failure. Numerous studies have implicated that dysregulation of autophagy might contribute to cardiomyocyte death. However, the underlying mechanisms by which autophagy dysregulation-mediated cell death remains to be elusive.

Lactitol (Lac), galactose (Gal), or -acetyl galactosamine (GalNAc) was coupled with cholesterol (CHS) as target head groups by enzyme-catalyzed regioselective esterification to produce three kinds of lipids: CHS-1-Gal, CHS-6-Gal, or CHS-6-GalNAc. The biological effects of galactosylated lipids carrying different constitutional isomers of the pendent sugar species were investigated.

Purpose: The etiology of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in hospital patients is often ambiguous due to the limited pathogen detection. Lack of a microbiological diagnosis impairs precision treatment in CAP.
Methods: Specimens collected from the lower respiratory tract of 195 CAP patients, viruses were measured by the Single-plex real-time PCR assay and the conventional culture method was exploited for bacteria.

We had previously identified that the co-expression of transmembrane CXCL16 (TM-CXCL16) and its receptor CXCR6 is an independent risk factor for poor survival in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). However, the impact of the soluble form of CXCL16 (sCXCL16) on the pathogenesis of DLBCL remains unknown. In the present study, the synergistic effect of sCXCL16 and tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) on apoptosis in DLBCL cell lines (OCI-LY8 and OCI-LY10) was investigated in vitro.

Purpose: Quercetin, a flavonoid, has been reported to ameliorate cardiovascular diseases, such as cardiac hypertrophy. However, the mechanism is not completely understood. In this study, a mechanism related to proteasome-glycogen synthesis kinase 3 (GSK-3) was elucidated in rats and primary neonatal cardiomyocytes.

Five new quinolizidine alkaloids, including three sparteine-type alkaloids (1 - 3) and two cytisine-type alkaloids (4 and 5), along with four known ones, were isolated from the roots of Sophora flavescens. Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic techniques including IR, UV, NMR, and HR-ESI-MS. All the compounds were evaluated for their antibacterial activities against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli.

Cryptococcosis is an infection that may be lethal in patients with nephrotic syndrome (NS). However, there is relatively limited epidemiological and clinical data about cryptococcosis in NS patients. We performed a pooled analysis to systemically summarize the epidemiology, risk factors, clinical and laboratory characteristics, treatments and outcomes of cryptococcosis in NS patients.

GATA3 has been recognized as the novel marker for identifying primary and metastatic breast carcinomas, consistently showing that GATA3 was significantly more sensitive than traditional markers gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 (GCDFP15) and mammaglobin (MGB). However, clinically useful groups of breast carcinomas status were not identified, which were determining appropriate treatment strategy, affecting the prognosis. In this study, we undertook a comparative study of the marker GATA3 and GCDFP15 and MGB in clinically useful groups of paired primary and metastatic breast cancer.

Bladder cancer belongs to one of the most common cancers and is a leading cause of deaths in our society. Urothelial carcinoma of the bladder (UCB) is the main type of this cancer, and the estrogen receptors in UCB remain to be studied. Our experiment aimed to investigate the possible biological effect of 17β-estradiol on human bladder-derived T24 carcinoma cells and to indicate its related mechanisms.

The aim of this study was to examine the interleukin-1B (IL-1B) gene promoter region -31 (IL-1B-31) polymorphism distribution characteristic of Hakka gastric cancer patients in Guangdong Province and to explore its association with gastric cancer. We used the 1:1 case-control method, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization flight time mass spectrometry, and MassARRAY-IPLEX technology to genotype IL-1B-31 (-31C> T) in 52 Hakka gastric cancer patients and 52 Hakka control subjects in Meizhou. Three genotypes - CT, TT, and CC - of IL-1B-31 were found in the Meizhou Hakka population.

Aim: To construct the recombinant eukaryotic expression vector pDsRed1-C3/LOC51255 and investigate the subcellular localization of LOC51255 protein in HePG2 cell line.
Methods: The cDNA of LOC51255 was amplified from the recombinant plasmid pET28b/LOC51255 by PCR. The aim gene fragment LOC51255 from pMD18-T/LOC51255 was subcloned into eukaryotic expression vector pDsRed1-C3.
