The gastrointestinal microbiota plays an important role in the function of the host intestine. However, little is currently known about the effects of irradiation on the microorganisms colonizing the mucosal surfaces of the gastrointestinal tract. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of X-ray irradiation on the compositions of the large intestinal Microbiotas of the rat.

[Heat-tonifying acupuncture relieves pain and synovial inflammatory injury by regulating Keap1-Nrf2/ARE/ HO-1 signaling pathway in rabbits with cold syndrome type rheumatoid arthritis].

Objective: To observe the effect of heat-tonifying needling on Keap1-Nrf2/ARE/HO-1 signal transduction pathway in knee synovium in rabbits with cold syndrome type rheumatoid arthritis (RA), so as to explore its mechanisms underl-ying improvement of RA.

Methods: New Zealand rabbits were randomly divided into normal control, RA model, uniform reinforcing-reducing acupuncture, twisting reinforcing acupuncture and heat-tonifying acupuncture groups, with 6 rabbits in each group. The cold syndrome type RA model was established by subcutaneous injection of mixture fluid of ovalbumin and Freund's complete adjuvant at the shoulder-back as well as injection of mixture of ovalbumin and normal saline into knee-joint cavity combined with ice-compress freezing.

Background: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a chronic, progressive disease of the lung. How to build a typical human mimicking animal model has been a challenge. Thus, to reveal the mechanism and to make it useful for IPF clinical treatment, a different type of mice model and inspection methods are used to evaluate which one is applicable for the study of IPF.

Apoptotic effect of selenium mushroom extract from Qinba on multiple myeloma cells.

Qinba selenium mushroom is a mushroom belonging to the Basidiomycetes family, which is believed to have anti- oxidant, anti-tumoral and anti-mutagenic activities. However, the efficacy of Qinba selenium mushroom against multiple myeloma has not been confirmed. The present study aimed to investigate the apoptotic effect of FA-2-b-β, the selenium mushroom extract from Qinba on multiple myeloma (MM) cells.

Ambient temperature, humidity, and urinary system diseases: a population-based study in Western China.

Climate has received an increasing attention due to its adverse effects on human health, but the effects on the urinary system are still short of enough evidence. Therefore, we carry out this study to analyze the relationship between meteorological factors and urinary system health in arid areas of western China. In this study, the daily numbers of outpatients with the urinary system diseases from multiple hospitals in three cities in Gansu province (Lanzhou, Zhangye, and Tianshui city) were collected and used for analysis.

Efficacy of combined angiotensin II receptor blocker with tripterygium glycosides on diabetic nephropathy: A protocol for meta-analysis.

Background: Several studies have reported good results for angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) combined with tripterygium glycosides (TGs) in the treatment of diabetic nephropathy (DN). However, because a small number of cases were included in each study, the statistical power was limited. Therefore, we performed a protocol for meta-analysis to further evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of combined ARB and TGs in treatment of DN.
