Exosomal miR-4645-5p from hypoxic bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells facilitates diabetic wound healing by restoring keratinocyte autophagy.

Burns Trauma

January 2024

Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Guangzhou First People's Hospital, South China University of Technology, Panfu Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510180, China.

Background: Refractory diabetic wounds are a common occurrence in patients with diabetes and epidermis-specific macroautophagy/autophagy impairment has been implicated in their pathogenesis. Therefore, identifying and developing treatment strategies capable of normalizing epidermis-specific macroautophagy/autophagy could facilitate diabetic wound healing. The study aims to investigate the potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (BMSC-exos) from hypoxic conditions as a treatment to normalize epidermis-specific autophagy for diabetic wound healing.

Background: The metabolically healthy obese (MHO) phenotype is associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in the general population. However, association of metabolic health and obesity phenotypes with CHD risk in adult cancer survivors remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the associations between different metabolic health and obesity phenotypes with incident CHD in adult cancer survivors.

Biomed Eng Online

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, College of Biomedical Engineering, Chongqing Medical University, 1 Medical College Road, Chongqing, 400016, China.

Background: Breast fibroadenoma poses a significant health concern, particularly for young women. Computer-aided diagnosis has emerged as an effective and efficient method for the early and accurate detection of various solid tumors. Automatic segmentation of the breast fibroadenoma is important and potentially reduces unnecessary biopsies, but challenging due to the low image quality and presence of various artifacts in sonography.

Article Synopsis
  • Bone metastasis is common in renal cell carcinoma and has a poor prognosis, prompting the need to explore potential therapeutic targets through a detailed analysis of single-cell transcriptomes from both primary and metastatic tumors.* -
  • The study reveals significant immune deficiencies in the bone metastatic environment, highlighting the role of cancer-associated fibroblasts and a dominance of immune inhibitory T cells, which could be targeted for treatment.* -
  • Dynamic changes among various cell types, including the transition of myeloid-derived suppressor cells to macrophages, are observed, pointing to potential avenues for developing new therapies for bone metastatic renal cell carcinoma.*

To simplify the chemical cautery, micropipette and syringe outlet are stuffed with cotton wick for a better flow of chemical due to capillary action. However, the corrosive effect of chemicals on metallic needle and on rubber/plastic cap of the piston leads to the leakage of chemicals. Hypodermic needle and tooth picks have been used for chemical cautery, but it requires frequent dipping into the chemical, which is not safe.

SPAG6 regulates cell proliferation and apoptosis via TGF-β/Smad signal pathway in adult B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Int J Hematol

February 2024

Department of Hematology, Chongqing Medical University, Medical College Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, China.

Adult B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) prognosis remains unsatisfactory, and searching for new therapeutic targets is crucial for improving patient prognosis. Sperm-associated antigen 6 (SPAG6), a member of the cancer-testis antigen family, plays an important role in tumors, especially hematologic tumors; however, it is unknown whether SPAG6 plays a role in adult B-ALL. In this study, we demonstrated for the first time that SPAG6 expression was up-regulated in the bone marrow of adult B-ALL patients compared to healthy donors, and expression was significantly reduced in patients who achieved complete remission (CR) after treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined trends in osteoarthritis disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2019 worldwide, revealing a significant increase, particularly in regions with lower socio-demographic indices.
  • A comprehensive analysis of data from 204 countries highlighted substantial growth in DALYs, especially among the 45-74 age group, with the most pronounced rise in younger individuals aged 30-34.
  • The results indicated that females experienced higher increases in DALYs compared to males, and there was a general upward trend in osteoarthritis risk over time, influenced by age, period, and cohort effects, particularly in lower socio-economic regions.

Backgrounds: There is still no consensus on the significance of Lymphadenectomy (LD) and the number of lymph nodes that need to be excised (ELNs) for adequate LD in patients with early-stage primary fallopian tube cancer (PFTC). Our endeavor is geared towards deepening comprehension of LD in early-stage PFTC and identify the optimal cut-off of ELNs.

Methods: This SEER-based study analyzed the clinical data of patients with early-stage PFTC between 2000 and 2018.

Clustering of lifestyle behaviours and analysis of their associations with MAFLD: a cross-sectional study of 196,515 individuals in China.

BMC Public Health

November 2023

Department of Health Management Center, The Third Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, No.138, Tongzipo Road, Changsha, 410013, China.

Background: The aggregation of lifestyle behaviours and their association with metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) remain unclear. We identified lifestyle patterns and investigated their association with the risk of developing MAFLD in a sample of Chinese adults who underwent annual physical examinations.

Methods: Annual physical examination data of Chinese adults from January 2016 to December 2020 were used in this study.

Purpose: To establish and validate a deep learning radiomics nomogram (DLRN) based on intratumoral and peritumoral regions of MR images and clinical characteristics to predict recurrence risk factors in early-stage cervical cancer and to clarify whether DLRN could be applied for risk stratification.

Methods: Two hundred and twenty five pathologically confirmed early-stage cervical cancers were enrolled and made up the training cohort and internal validation cohort, and 40 patients from another center were enrolled into the external validation cohort. On the basis of region of interest (ROI) of intratumoral and different peritumoral regions, two sets of features representing deep learning and handcrafted radiomics features were created using combined images of T2-weighted MRI (T2WI) and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI).

Distributed lag effects and vulnerable groups of PM and active pulmonary TB in Qingdao, China.

Int J Biometeorol

January 2024

State Key Laboratory of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, School of Public Health, Chongqing Medical University, Medical College Road, No.1Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400016, China.

There has been a gap regarding current knowledge of the effect of PM on pulmonary TB, such as the exposure-time-response between them. This study aimed to explore the distributed lag effects of particulate matter (PM) on active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and identify the vulnerable groups. A generalized additive mixed model combined with a distributed lag non-linear model was applied to quantify the association between PM and active pulmonary TB with adjustment for potential confounders.

Bi-DTPA, a potential CT-guided radiation sensitizer.

Biochem Biophys Res Commun

September 2023

Department of Ultrasound, The Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. NO.74 Linjiang Road, Chongqing, 400010, China. Electronic address:

The therapeutic effects and application of radiotherapy are restricted to some extent due to low radiosensitivity of tumor tissues and adverse effects by excess dosage. Current radiosensitizers are confronted with problems in clinical translation because of complicated manufacture technique and high cost. In this research, we have synthesized a radiosensitizer with advantages in low cost and mass production, which could be applied to CT imaging and enhanced radiotherapy in breast cancer, namely Bi-DTPA.
