Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital, Dushu Lake Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, Medical Centre of Soochow University, Suzhou, Jiangsu, China.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients infected with COVID-19 experience much worse prognosis. However, the specific mechanisms behind this phenomenon remain unclear. We conducted a multicentre study, collecting surgical tissue samples from a total of 36 NSCLC patients across three centres to analyse.

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Suzhou Dushu Lake Hospital, Dushu Lake Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, Medical Centre of Soochow University, Suzhou, China.

Background: Squamous cell carcinoma of the lung (LUSC) is a severe and highly lethal malignant tumor of the respiratory system, and its molecular mechanisms at the molecular level remain unc\lear.

Methods: We acquired RNA-seq data from 8 surgical samples obtained from early-stage LUSC and adjacent non-cancerous tissues from 3 different centers. Utilizing Deseq2, we identified 1088 differentially expressed genes with |LogFC| > 1 and a p-value < 0.

Department of Radiology, The Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Medical Centre of Soochow University, Jiangsu 215000, China. Electronic address:

Surgical site infection (SSI) significantly affects patient recovery time, health outcomes and quality of life which is closely associated with the use of implants or mesh. Sutures are the most frequently used implants that play a significant role in the development of SSI. Studies have demonstrated that the administration of effective bactericidal and anti-inflammatory treatments can significantly decrease the incidence of SSI.

Article Synopsis
  • A decrease in the autophagic capacity of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) is linked to reduced osteogenic differentiation, which could contribute to osteoporosis.
  • This study investigates how sinomenine (SIN) affects the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs and its mechanisms by using cells from both sham-treated and ovariectomized mice.
  • Results show that SIN enhances autophagy and osteogenic differentiation in BMSCs by inhibiting the mTOR pathway, suggesting its potential as a treatment for osteoporosis and related disorders.

Accurate early diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and prompt implementation of appropriate treatment approaches are crucial. In the clinic, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been recommended for implementation to aid in the precise and early diagnosis of RA. However, they are still limited by issues regarding specificity and their ability to capture comprehensive information about the pathological features.

Effect of basal metabolic rate on rheumatoid arthritis: a Mendelian randomization study.

Postgrad Med J

February 2024

Department of Orthopaedics, First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, Soochow University, Suzhou, Jiangsu 215006, P.R. China.

Purpose: Basal metabolic rate (BMR) as one of the most basic and significant indicators of metabolism has been associated with human health. Previous studies showed that the development of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is linked to BMR; however, the causal relationship between BMR and RA is unknown. Thus, we aimed to explore the causal relationship between BMR and RA as well as RA-related factors.

The high mortality of breast cancer is closely related to lymph node (LN) metastasis. Sentinel LNs (SLNs) are the first station where tumor cells metastasize through the lymphatic system. As such, achieving precise diagnosis of the early metastatic status of SLNs during surgery is of paramount importance for precision therapy of breast cancer.

Background: Wear particles-induced osteolysis is a major long-term complication after total joint arthroplasty. Up to now, there is no effective treatment for wear particles-induced osteolysis except for the revision surgery, which is a heavy psychological and economic burden to patients. A metabolite of gut microbiota, short chain fatty acids (SCFAs), has been reported to be beneficial for many chronic inflammatory diseases.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the independent risk factors associated with peripheral venous catheter (PVC) failure and develop a model that can predict PVC failure.

Methods: This prospective, multicenter cohort study was carried out in nine tertiary hospitals in Suzhou, China between December 2017 and February 2018. Adult patients undergoing first-time insertion of a PVC were observed from catheter insertion to removal.
