Prcis: Based on a large administrative database of German claims data, our study provides current estimates of the prevalence and incidence of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) in Germany and describes selected outcomes for prevalent patients with POAG.

Purpose: To estimate the prevalence and incidence of POAG in Germany, to describe the patient population in terms of comorbidity burden, routine care, and overall healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) and associated costs, and to describe treatment patterns over time in patients undergoing relevant laser procedures.

To evaluate the effect of a vendor-agnostic deep learning denoising (DLD) algorithm on diagnostic image quality of non-contrast cranial computed tomography (ncCT) across five CT scanners.This retrospective single-center study included ncCT data of 150 consecutive patients (30 for each of the five scanners) who had undergone routine imaging after minor head trauma. The images were reconstructed using filtered back projection (FBP) and a vendor-agnostic DLD method.

COLUMBUS 7-year update: A randomized, open-label, phase III trial of encorafenib plus binimetinib versus vemurafenib or encorafenib in patients with BRAF V600E/K-mutant melanoma.

Full spectrum flow cytometry, that measures the full emission range of all the fluorophores present in the panel instead of only the emission peaks is now routinely used in many laboratories internationally, and the demand for this technology is rapidly increasing. With the capacity to use larger and more complex staining panels, optimized protocols are required for the best panel design, panel validation and high-dimensional data analysis outcomes.

Methods: NfL, GFAP, UCHL1 and tTAU concentrations in serum and CSF were measured in 183 patients (122 with neuroinflammatory disease and 61 neurological or somatoform disease controls) using the single molecule array HD-1 analyzer (Quanterix, Boston, MA). Spearman's rank correlations were computed between serum and CSF concentrations.

Background: To overcome knowledge gaps and optimize long-term follow-up (LTFU) care for childhood cancer survivors, the concept of the Survivorship Passport (SurPass) has been invented. Within the European PanCareSurPass project, the semiautomated and interoperable SurPass (version 2.0) will be optimized, implemented, and evaluated at 6 LTFU care centers representing 6 European countries and 3 distinct health system scenarios: (1) national electronic health information systems (EHISs) in Austria and Lithuania, (2) regional or local EHISs in Italy and Spain, and (3) cancer registries or hospital-based EHISs in Belgium and Germany.

Microbiome confounders and quantitative profiling challenge predicted microbial targets in colorectal cancer development.

Despite substantial progress in cancer microbiome research, recognized confounders and advances in absolute microbiome quantification remain underused; this raises concerns regarding potential spurious associations. Here we study the fecal microbiota of 589 patients at different colorectal cancer (CRC) stages and compare observations with up to 15 published studies (4,439 patients and controls total). Using quantitative microbiome profiling based on 16S ribosomal RNA amplicon sequencing, combined with rigorous confounder control, we identified transit time, fecal calprotectin (intestinal inflammation) and body mass index as primary microbial covariates, superseding variance explained by CRC diagnostic groups.

Management of Deep Vein Thrombosis: An Update Based on the Revised AWMF S2k Guideline.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) are the most common manifestations of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Most DVTs affect the lower-extremity veins. Since the symptoms of DVT are non-specific, a prompt and standardised diagnostic work-up is essential to minimise the risk of PE in the acute phase and to prevent thrombosis progression, post-thrombotic syndrome and VTE recurrence in the long-term.

It is an honor and a great pleasure for us to be guest editors for this special issue of , which addresses important issues surrounding the complex of venous thromboembolism (VTE). In February 2023, the revised guideline on "Diagnostics and Therapy of Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism" has been published on the website of the Association of the Scientific Medical Societies in Germany (AWMF)1. This guideline was drawn up under the leadership of the German Society of Angiology (DGA), and representatives of 17 scientific societies contributed to its content.

The Joint Vasculitis Registry in German-speaking countries (GeVas): subgroup analysis of 195 GCA patients.

Objectives: Giant cell arteritis (GCA) is one of the most common forms of vasculitis. There is an abundance of studies which are conducted in a randomised controlled trial setting but limited with respect to cohort size and follow-up time. GeVas is the first large-scale registry for vasculitides in German-speaking countries that enables to evaluate this rare disease.

Trans-Amplifying RNA: A Journey from Alphavirus Research to Future Vaccines.

Replicating RNA, including self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) and trans-amplifying RNA (taRNA), holds great potential for advancing the next generation of RNA-based vaccines. Unlike transcribed mRNA found in most current RNA vaccines, saRNA or taRNA can be massively replicated within cells in the presence of RNA-amplifying enzymes known as replicases. We recently demonstrated that this property could enhance immune responses with minimal injected RNA amounts.

Categorization of Patients With Pulmonary Embolism by Charlson Comorbidity Index.

Background: Short-term outcomes of pulmonary embolism are closely related to right ventricular dysfunction and patient's hemodynamic status, but also to individual comorbidity profile. However, the impact of patients' comorbidities on survival during pulmonary embolism might be underrated. Although the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) is the most extensively studied comorbidity index for detecting comorbidity burden, studies analyzing the impact of CCI on pulmonary embolism patients' survival are limited.
