Bezoars are concrete masses found within the gastrointestinal tract that can lead to obstructions. One of the most common forms of bezoars is trichobezoar, composed of swallowed hair. Many bezoars are confined to the stomach; however, a small occurrence of trichobezoars extends past the pylorus and into the duodenum, or small bowel, termed Rapunzel syndrome.

Dysregulated intracellular Ca handling involving altered Ca release from intracellular stores via RyR channels underlies both arrhythmias and reduced function in heart failure (HF). Mechanisms linking RyR dysregulation and disease are not fully established. Studies in animals support a role for InsP receptor Ca channels (InsPR) in pathological alterations in cardiomyocyte Ca handling but whether these findings translate to the divergent physiology of human cardiomyocytes during heart failure is not determined.

Background: Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) at the time of cholecystectomy has well-established benefits for managing pediatric choledocholithiasis. However, providers increasingly favor ERCP pre-or-post laparoscopic cholecystectomy (ERCP+LC) due to perceived complexity of LCBDE. We refined a stepwise method employing wire-ready balloon dilation of the Sphincter of Oddi.

Lice are parasitic infections that can infect humans and survive by consuming host blood. They are most commonly associated with a lack of hygiene and occur most commonly in school-age children, homeless populations, and densely populated areas. Lice infections can potentially lead to vector-containing illness and are rarely complicated by acute blood loss anemia.

Background: Among various human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs), the HERV-K (HML-2) group has been reported to be highly related to cancer. In pancreatic cancer cells, shRNA-mediated downregulation of HERV-K env RNA decreases cell proliferation and tumor growth through the RAS-ERK-RSK pathway; in colorectal cancer, CRISPR-Cas9 knockout (KO) of the HERV-K env gene affects tumorigenic characteristics through the nupr-1 gene.
Objective: The effect of HERV-K env KO has not been studied in ovarian cancer cell lines.

However, certain points regarding conventional ADSC delivery systems, such as low cell density, secreted cytokine levels, and cell viability, still need to be addressed for treating severe wounds. In this study, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) cavity-structured stem cell-laden system for overdense delivery of cells into severe wound sites.

Invariant natural killer T cells (iNKT cells) express a semi-invariant T cell receptor that recognizes certain glycolipids (including α-galactosylceramide, αGC) bound to CD1d, and can induce potent antitumor responses. Here, we assessed whether αGC could enhance the efficacy of a GM-CSF-producing tumor cell vaccine in the transgenic SV40 T antigen-driven TRAMP prostate cancer model. In healthy mice, we initially found that optimal T cell responses were obtained with αGC-pulsed TRAMP-C2 cells secreting GM-CSF and milk fat globule epidermal growth factor protein-8 (MFG-E8) with an RGD to RGE mutation (GM-CSF/RGE TRAMP-C2), combined with systemic low dose IL-12.

Nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) represents a distinct phenotype within the spectrum of axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), which is characterized by a range of clinical manifestations. Despite a high disease burden that is comparable to ankylosing spondylitis (also known as radiographic axSpA), there is an unmet need to recognize and effectively manage patients with active nr-axSpA.A targeted literature search was conducted in OVID (MEDLINE and Embase databases) to identify articles on nr-axSpA, including its definition, demographics, epidemiology, burden, diagnosis, clinical presentation, and treatment guidelines.

The liver is the most common place for colon adenocarcinoma metastasis because of portal circulation. The surgical intervention for patients with colon adenocarcinoma with synchronous metastasis to the liver has been debated. Studies have shown that the simultaneous resection of a colorectal adenocarcinoma with a liver metastasis has similar outcomes compared to the traditional staged approach when looking at morbidity, mortality, and long-term oncologic effects.

Background: Pediatric growth tracking has been identified as a top priority by international health agencies to assess the severity of malnutrition and stunting. However, remote low-resource settings often lack the necessary infrastructure for longitudinal analysis of growth for the purposes of early identification and immediate intervention of stunting.
Methods: To address this gap, we developed a portable field unit (PFU) capable of identifying a child over the course of multiple visits, each time adding new anthropomorphic measurements.

An Amyand's hernia is defined by the presence of the vermiform appendix in the inguinal hernia sac. Most cases of Amyand's hernia are incidentally diagnosed intraoperatively while surgically reducing a right inguinal hernia. Right-sided Amyand's hernias are more common than left-sided Amyand's hernias for two reasons: the appendix is naturally located on the right side and right inguinal hernias are more common.

Background And Objectives: Uremic symptoms, including fatigue, anorexia, pruritus, nausea, paresthesia, and pain, are attributed to the accumulation of organic waste products normally cleared by the kidneys, but whether kidney function is the primary driver of changes in symptom severity over time is not known. The goal of our study was to evaluate the association between eGFR and uremic symptom severity score in patients with CKD.
Design, Setting, Participants, And Measurements: We identified 3685 participants with CKD not on dialysis in the prospective, observational Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort (CRIC) Study with baseline assessment of eGFR and uremic symptom severity.

Background/objectives: Minimally invasive lateral lumbar interbody fusion (MIS LLIF) has been employed to treat degenerative disc disease, with reduced complication profiles in comparison to other open anterior and posterior techniques. The technique permits the use of larger, coronal-spanning interbody spacers to restore height and alignment. However, large static spacers have historically been associated with iatrogenic complications during trialing and insertion.

A direct observation strategy (Standardized Observation Analogue Procedure, SOAP) was used in a large-scale randomized trial of parent training versus parent education in young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and disruptive behavior. The 16-minute SOAP, modified from an earlier version of this same measure, included parentchild interaction to assess child behavior in a clinical laboratory setting. Despite study entry criteria for all child participants requiring moderate levels of disruptive behavior in this project, 126 of 168 children with complete SOAP data at baseline showed no disruptive behavior on this measure.
