Nature-focused livestreams: Connecting people to nature and to each other.

Engaging with nature has been found to have a range of benefits across the biopsychosocial and spiritual domains of well-being. Nature-focused livestreams (NFLs) offer an alternative to physically engaging with nature and serve as a window to nature as society has become more urbanized and has increasingly moved indoors. In this brief review, we examine the role of NFLs in connecting people with nature and connecting people with each other.

Quality and Reliability of 2D and 3D Clinical Photographs in Plastic Surgery: A Scoping Review.

Background: Clinical photography is a critical tool in plastic surgery practice. The primary aim of this scoping review was to assess the quality and reliability of various 2D and 3D photography modalities in plastic surgery.

Methods: The databases, MEDLINE via PubMed, Embase via Elsevier, and Scopus via Elsevier, were searched from inception to March 15, 2023, for any papers focused on evaluation of quality and/or reliability of photography in plastic surgery-related applications.

Experiences of cancer-related stigma in Africa: A scoping review.

Cancer is a major health issue, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where 70% of cancer deaths occur. Stigma and barriers to screening and treatment lead to poor outcomes. We conducted structured searches of PubMed, Embase, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and CABI Global Health databases according to PRISMA-ScR guidelines.

HIV, HPV, AND ORAL HEALTH IN TANZANIA: A SCOPING REVIEW.

Background: There is an increased risk of human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated infections and malignancies among people living with HIV (PLHIV). However, there is limited literature exploring the intersection of HPV, HIV, and oral health in Tanzania and across sub-Saharan Africa. We reviewed the existing literature on the intersection of HIV, HPV, and oral health in Tanzania.

The gynecological sequelae of sexual violence in adolescence in the United States: A scoping review.

Background: Women who engage in sexual acts against their will are at high risk for sexual and reproductive health complications including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), menstruation disturbance, infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, reproductive cancers, dyspareunia, vaginismus, and chronic pelvic pain. However, the occurrence of these gynecological sequelae in women who experienced sexual violence during their youth has not been scoped in the literature. To map the breadth of gynecological sequelae, corresponding interventions, and associated symptomatology in childhood and adolescence, the researchers conducted a scoping review.

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy: a systematic review protocol.

Background: Although intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) immunotherapy usually exhibits a favorable safety profile, it can lead to the development of BCG infections, both localized and disseminated. Understanding of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy is limited because of the lack of consensus definitions of BCG infections and limited post-instillation follow-up. We aim to perform a systematic review of the literature of BCG infections following intravesical BCG immunotherapy to elucidate the epidemiology, risk factors, and outcomes of BCG infections.

Management of traumatic brain injury and acute respiratory distress syndrome-What evidence exists? A scoping review.

Introduction: Up to 20% of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which is associated with increased odds of mortality. Guideline-based treatment for ARDS includes "lung protective" ventilation strategies, some of which are in opposition to "brain protective" strategies used for ventilation with patients with TBI. We conducted a scoping review of ventilation management strategies with clinical outcomes among patients with TBI and ARDS.

Impact of Genomic Classifiers on Risk Stratification and Treatment Intensity in Patients With Localized Prostate Cancer : A Systematic Review.

Background: Tissue-based genomic classifiers (GCs) have been developed to improve prostate cancer (PCa) risk assessment and treatment recommendations.

Purpose: To summarize the impact of the Decipher, Oncotype DX Genomic Prostate Score (GPS), and Prolaris GCs on risk stratification and patient-clinician decisions on treatment choice among patients with localized PCa considering first-line treatment.

Data Sources: MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science published from January 2010 to August 2024.

Racism, homophobia, and the sexual health of young Black men who have sex with men in the United States: A systematic review.

Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (BMSM) experience the highest rates of HIV acquisition annually out of any population in the United States, and young BMSM (YBMSM) are heavily impacted by this inequity as they enter adulthood. Despite a high annual HIV incidence, extant literature has found BMSM to engage in fewer sexual risk behaviors than White and Hispanic/Latino men who have sex with men, resulting in a gap between risk behaviors and the inequity of HIV infection. Structural factors, such as racism and homophobia, are thus being examined in order to understand this disconnect between behavior and HIV incidence.

Background: Postdischarge contacts (PDCs) after hospitalization are common practice, but their effectiveness in reducing use of acute care after discharge remains unclear.

Purpose: To assess the effects of PDC on 30-day emergency department (ED) visits, 30-day hospital readmissions, and patient satisfaction.

A Catalyst to Better Searching: Tackling Health Inequities with a Novel Interactive eResource.

This paper describes a web-based resource that aims to improve health disparities research by providing guidance and tools for searching and evaluating information on vulnerable populations. The resource integrates electronic books on equity, diversity, and inclusion with interactive tutorials and modules teaching users to formulate research questions, select appropriate search terms, and appraise their searches. The resource also addresses the issue of biased and outdated searching terminology and offers alternative strategies for finding literature.

Health conditions seen frequently in hospitalized United States Veterans who served after 9/11/2001: A scoping review.

Background: Hospitalists working outside the Veterans Affairs (VA) system frequently will serve Veterans receiving care for acute conditions and/or awaiting transfer to VA facilities.

Objective: To perform a scoping review of health conditions and associated outcomes relevant to hospital medicine in US Veterans who served in active duty or reserve deployed roles after November 9, 2001.

Methods: A search of MEDLINE and Embase was performed using a combination of terms related to military service period and health conditions, yielding 5634 citations published after January 1, 2013.

A scoping review on peer-led interventions to improve youth mental health in low- and middle-income countries.

Youth living in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have an increased vulnerability to mental illnesses, with many lacking access to adequate treatment. There has been a growing body of interventions using task sharing with trained peer leaders to address this mental health gap. This scoping review examines the characteristics, effectiveness, components of peer delivery and challenges of peer-led mental health interventions for youth aged 10-24 in LMICs.

Short-term Patient-Reported Outcomes Following Bilateral Risk-Reducing Mastectomy for Patients at a High Risk for Breast Cancer: A Systematic Review.

Background: Bilateral risk-reducing mastectomies (RRMs) have been proven to decrease the risk of breast cancer in patients at high risk owing to family history or having pathogenic genetic mutations. However, few resources with consolidated data have detailed the patient experience following surgery. This systematic review features patient-reported outcomes for patients with no breast cancer history in the year after their bilateral RRM.

Efficacy of opioid combination versus single opioid for adult cancer pain: a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis.

Context, mechanisms and community engagement in implementation strategies: a systematic review protocol of implementation strategies designed using implementation mapping.

Introduction: Implementation Mapping (IM) has increasingly been used for the design and/or selection and tailoring implementation strategies to promote the effective translation of evidence-based interventions into practice. IM is a tool for guiding the systematic, iterative, step-by-step design process that helps guide the co-creation of theory-based, evidence-informed implementation strategies. This protocol aims to describe the methods of the planned systematic review that will (1) examine the overall landscape of IM in developing implementation strategies, (2) explore the mechanisms of implementation strategies developed using IM and (3) investigate the use of IM and community engagement in the development of implementation strategies.

Combination Therapy Is Not Associated with Decreased Mortality in Infectious Endocarditis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Untreated infective endocarditis (IE) is uniformly fatal. The practice of combination antibiotic therapy for IE is recommended by treatment guidelines but largely unsupported by high-quality evidence. This study aimed to assess the efficacy of combination antibiotic therapy compared to monotherapy in IE through a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective Measures for Assessing Readiness to Return to Sport After Shoulder Instability Procedures Are Not Standardized: A Systematic Review.

Purpose: To report objective measures utilized to assess readiness to return to sport after shoulder instability procedures.

Methods: Our systematic review included studies if they assessed active individuals after a shoulder instability procedure with at least 1 patient-reported outcome or physical performance measure. We excluded studies of atraumatic instability, studies only reporting imaging, or studies of biomechanics.

Health Experiences of LGBTQ+ People Living With Dementia and Their Care Partners: A Scoping Review of Research and Policy.

Objectives: This scoping review aimed to synthesize research on the health experiences of LGBTQ+ people living with dementia (PLWD) and their caregivers, and the impact of health policies on this population.

Methods: Six databases were searched for research studies and policy literature. Titles, abstracts, and full texts were reviewed by a three-member team.

Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Outcomes in Type 1 Thyroplasty Comparing Silastic to Gore-Tex.

Objective: Type 1 Thyroplasty is a well-established procedure used for medializing an immobile vocal fold. Silastic and Gore-Tex are the two most common materials used to accomplish this, but comparative data on their relative efficacy are scarce. We sought to compare outcomes between Silastic and Gore-Tex implants via systematic review and meta-analysis for unilateral vocal fold immobility.
