The purpose of this study was to define the current trends regarding evaluation, nonoperative and surgical management, and return to sport criteria for capitellar OCD lesions among surgeons.

Feasibility Testing of a Nurse-Invented Urinary Drainage Bag Securement Device.

Purpose/aims: To determine the feasibility of a nurse invention called the Bag Below Bladder (B3) Buddy using validated usability and acceptability tools, in securing urinary drainage bags while patients ambulate.

Design: An intervention study was implemented in a participant dyad consisting of a patient and clinician. Each dyad used the B3 Buddy in 1 encounter, ambulating at least 90 ft in an inpatient unit.

This session aimed to discuss and evaluate advanced treatments for lumbar spinal stenosis and related conditions utilizing multiportal endoscopic approaches; articulating instruments; unilateral biportal endoscopy; transforaminal techniques for facet cysts, herniated disc, and spinal stenosis; as well as percutaneous endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion (PELIF).

Potential for trans-pulmonary tumor markers in the early diagnosis of lung cancer: a case report.

Background: Measurement of tumor markers from peripheral venous blood is an emerging tool to assist in the early diagnosis of lung cancer. Samples from the pulmonary artery and pulmonary artery wedge position (trans-pulmonary samples) are accessible via right-heart catheterization and, by virtue of their proximity to lung tumors, may increase diagnostic yield.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 64 year-old woman from whom trans-pulmonary samples were obtained and who was diagnosed 16 months later with recurrent metastatic small cell lung cancer.

Objective: To examine the pattern of health services access and utilization that may contribute to racial/ethnic disparities in receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: This cross-sectional study used a national sample from the All of Us Research Program, which included over 80 % of participants from underrepresented populations in biomedical research. Study participants included adults aged 18 years and older diagnosed with OSA (N = 8518).

Preoperative pain counseling is important to set post-rhinoplasty pain expectations and reduce opioid use.

Diverse Phenotypic Presentation of the Welander Distal Myopathy Founder Mutation, With Myopathy and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in the Same Family.

Welander distal myopathy is a rare myopathy with prominent and early involvement of distal upper extremity muscles, prevalent in individuals of Scandinavian origin, and caused by a founder mutation in the cytotoxic granule-associated RNA-binding protein (T-cell intracellular antigen-1; TIA1), E384K. Different pathogenic variants in the TIA1 gene, distinct from the founder 1, have recently been associated with frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), suggesting that TIA1-related disorders belong to the group of multisystem proteinopathies. We describe the first case of a two-generation family with the founder E384K TIA1 mutation demonstrating phenotypic variability; the mother manifested as Welander myopathy, whereas 2 daughters manifested as ALS.

Associations of diabetes and mortality among colorectal cancer patients from the Southern Community Cohort Study.

Background: We investigated associations between diabetes and mortality among participants with incident colorectal cancer (CRC) from the Southern Community Cohort Study.

Methods: Participants (73% non-Hispanic Black; 60% income < $15,000) were recruited between 2002-2009. Diabetes was self-reported at enrollment and follow-up surveys at approximately 5-year intervals.

We aim to determine the accessibility of gold-standard hearing assessments - audiogram or auditory brainstem response (ABR) - during the first 3 months of hearing health care for children with and without developmental disabilities. Electronic health records were examined from children (0-18 years) who received hearing health care at three hospitals. Children with developmental disabilities had a diagnosis of autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, or intellectual disability.

Bone Fragility in High Fat Diet-induced Obesity is Partially Independent of Type 2 Diabetes in Mice.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are risk factors for fragility fractures. It is unknown whether this elevated risk is due to a diet favoring obesity or the diabetes that often occurs with obesity. Therefore, we hypothesized that the fracture resistance of bone is lower in mice fed with a high fat diet (45% kcal; HFD) than in mice that fed on a similar, control diet (10% kcal; LFD), regardless of whether the mice developed overt T2D.
