Background: Although high-risk older patients benefit from a multidisciplinary approach to perioperative care, the specific roles and responsibilities of the clinicians involved have yet to be adequately characterized.
Methods: Qualitative analysis of semi-structured interviews with four anesthesia preoperative clinic providers, seven surgeons, and nine primary care providers in northern New England.
Results: The analysis revealed both distinct and overlapping roles and responsibilities.

Background: Pregnancy-related anxiety significantly impacts maternal and fetal health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), including those within Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). Most studies conducted to evaluate pregnancy-related anxiety in LMICs have utilized scales developed in high-income countries, despite significant variations in pregnancy-related anxiety due to socioeconomic and cultural contexts. This review surveyed existing literature in order to identify which scales have been used to measure pregnancy-related anxiety in SSA.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The objective was to assess trends in hysterectomy routes by patients who are likely and unlikely candidates for a vaginal approach.
Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent vaginal, abdominal, or laparoscopic/robotics-assisted laparoscopic hysterectomy between 2017 and 2020 using the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database. Patients undergoing hysterectomy for a primary diagnosis of benign uterine pathology, dysplasia, abnormal uterine bleeding, or pelvic floor disorders were eligible for inclusion.

Background: Cardiac mucinous deposits are a rare entity only previously described in the setting of scleromyxedema, a disorder characterized by cutaneous and systemic mucin deposits, fibroblastic proliferation, and monoclonal gammopathies.
Case Summary: A 41-year-old woman was transferred to our hospital after a month-long hospitalization with worsening cardiogenic shock requiring ionotropic support. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed a left ventricular ejection fraction of 23%, prior right coronary artery infarct, full-thickness late gadolinium enhancement in the left ventricle basilar wall, global abnormal parametric mapping parameters of both native T1, T2, and extracellular volume, and severe biventricular dysfunction concerning for infiltrative cardiomyopathy.

Purpose: The mesothelin-targeting antibody-drug conjugate anetumab ravtansine was evaluated in combination with the programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) inhibitor pembrolizumab based on the common expression of mesothelin and reports of activity in mesothelioma.
Patients And Methods: A phase 1 safety run-in of the combination of anetumab ravtansine (6.5 mg/kg iv q3weeks) and pembrolizumab (200 mg, IV q3weeks) was conducted, followed by a phase 2 randomization to the combination or pembrolizumab alone at medical centers across the United States and Canada in the National Cancer Institute's Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network.

Ketamine is contraindicated in pregnancy given the lack of knowledge about potential effects on a developing fetus. This study aimed to characterize current clinical practices specific to pregnancy and reproduction related to the use of ketamine for the treatment of psychiatric illness. Online surveys were sent to outpatient ketamine clinics across the United States inquiring about practices related to pregnancy.

Vietnamese women have a higher incidence rate of cervical cancer and are less likely to have ever been screened for cervical cancer than their White counterparts in the US. This review synthesizes findings from published interventions to promote cervical cancer screening in this vulnerable population. Articles were identified through a systematic search of PsycInfo, Embase, Pubmed, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Register of Controlled Trials in October 2022.

CarH is a protein photoreceptor that uses a form of B, adenosylcobalamin (AdoCbl), to sense light via formation of a metastable excited state. Aside from AdoCbl bound to CarH, methylcobalamin (MeCbl) is the only other example─to date─of photoexcited cobalamins forming metastable excited states with lifetimes of nanoseconds or longer. The UV-visible spectra of the excited states of MeCbl and AdoCbl bound to CarH are similar.

Objective: To compare characteristics of Urogynecology training and number of "Incontinence and Pelvic Floor" cases logged between Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) residencies affiliated and those not affiliated with Urogynecology fellowships.
Design: A retrospective descriptive analysis was performed of OB/GYN residency programs, their Urogynecology training, and association with Urogynecology fellowship programs during the 2023 to 2024 academic year. Program websites for Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)-accredited OB/GYN residency programs were reviewed to determine availability, timing, and length of Urogynecology training.

Mutations in methyl-CpG binding protein 2 (MeCP2), such as the T158M, P152R, R294X, and R306C mutations, are responsible for most Rett syndrome (RTT) cases. These mutations often result in altered protein expression that appears to correlate with changes in the nuclear size; however, the molecular details of these observations are poorly understood. Using a C2C12 cellular system expressing human MeCP2-E1 isoform as well as mouse models expressing these mutations, we show that T158M and P152R result in a decrease in MeCP2 protein, whereas R306C has a milder variation, and R294X resulted in an overall 2.

Objective: The recently updated American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine diagnostic criteria for mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) removed retrograde amnesia (RA) as a main criterion for mTBI, recommending it be included as a substitute criterion only when posttraumatic amnesia (PTA) cannot be reliably assessed. This study aimed to investigate the evidence base for this recommendation.

Cancer prevention encompasses both screening strategies to find cancers early when they are likely to be most treatable and prevention and interception strategies to reduce the risk of developing cancers. Bioconjugates, here defined broadly as materials and molecules that have synthetic and biological components, have roles to play across the cancer-prevention spectrum. In particular, bioconjugates may be developed as affordable, accessible, and effective screening strategies or as novel vaccines and drugs to reduce one's risk of developing cancers.

Inherited mutations in human beta-cardiac myosin (M2β) can lead to severe forms of heart failure. The E525K mutation in M2β is associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and was found to stabilize the interacting heads motif (IHM) and autoinhibited super-relaxed (SRX) state in dimeric heavy meromyosin. However, in monomeric M2β subfragment 1 (S1) we found that E525K enhances (threefold) the maximum steady-state actin-activated ATPase activity ( ) and decreases (eightfold) the actin concentration at which ATPase is one-half maximal ( ).

Motivation: Chemical space embedding methods are widely utilized in various research settings for dimensional reduction, clustering and effective visualization. The maps generated by the embedding process can provide valuable insight to medicinal chemists in terms of the relationships between structural, physicochemical and biological properties of compounds. However, these maps are known to be difficult to interpret, and the ''landscape'' on the map is prone to ''rearrangement'' when embedding different sets of compounds.
