Objective: The aim of this prospective, single-center, observational study was to investigate the accuracy of modeling and reproduction of human anatomical dimensions in manikins by comparing radiographic upper airway measurements of 13 different models with humans.

Methods: 13 commonly used airway manikins (male or female anatomy based) and 47 controls (adult humans, 37 male, 10 female) were investigated using a mediosagittal and axial cervical spine CT scan. For anatomical comparison six human upper airway target structures, the following were measured: Oblique diameter of the tongue through the center, horizontal distance between the center point of the tongue and the posterior pharyngeal wall, horizontal distance between the vallecula and the posterior pharyngeal wall, distance of the upper oesophageal orifice length of epiglottis distance at the narrowest part of the trachea.

In addition to cerebrovascular resistance (CVR) zero flow pressure (ZFP), effective cerebral perfusion pressure (CPPe) and the resistance area product (RAP) are supplemental determinants of cerebral blood flow (CBF). Until now, the interrelationship of PaCO2-induced changes in CBF, CVR, CPPe, ZFP, and RAP is not fully understood. In a controlled crossover trial, we investigated 10 anesthetized patients aiming at PaCO2 levels of 30, 37, 43, and 50 mm Hg.

Survival, hypothalamic obesity, and neuropsychological/psychosocial status after childhood-onset craniopharyngioma: newly reported long-term outcomes.

Department of Pediatrics, Klinikum Oldenburg, Medical Campus University Oldenburg, Oldenburg, Germany (A.S.S., A.H., U.G., A.M.M.D., H.L.M.); University of Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands (A.S.S., A.M.M.D.); Department of Neuroradiology, University of Würzburg, Würzburg, Germany (M.W.-M.).

Background: Quality of life (QoL) and long-term prognosis are frequently, and often severely, impaired in craniopharyngioma (CP) patients. Knowledge of risk factors for long-term outcome is important for optimization of treatment.

Methods: Overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), body mass index (BMI), neuropsychological status (EORTCQLQ-C30, MFI-20), and psychosocial status were analyzed in 261 patients with childhood-onset CP diagnosed before 2000 and longitudinally observed in HIT-Endo.

Objective: Pediatric patients with sellar masses such as craniopharyngioma (CP) or cyst of Rathke's pouch (CRP) frequently suffer disease- and treatment-related sequelae. We analyzed the impact and prognostic relevance of initial hydrocephalus (HY) and hypothalamic involvement (HI) on long-term survival and functional capacity (FC) in children with CP or CRP.

Subjects And Methods: Using retrospective analysis of patient records, presence of initial HY or HI was assessed in 177 pediatric patients (163 CP and 14 CRP).

Complications associated with the prehospital use of laryngeal tubes--a systematic analysis of risk factors and strategies for prevention.

November 2014

Department of Anaesthesiology, Intensive Care Medicine, and Pain Therapy; Goethe-University Hospital, Frankfurt, Germany; Medical Campus University of Oldenburg, European Medical School, Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Evangelisches Krankenhaus, Oldenburg, Germany. Electronic address:

Objective: With the increasing spread of laryngeal tubes (LT) in emergency medicine, complications and side-effects are observed. We sought to identify complications associated with the use of LTs in emergency medicine, and to develop strategies to prevent these incidents.

Methods: In a prospective clinical study, all patients who had their airways managed in the field with a LT and who were admitted through the emergency department of the Frankfurt University Hospital during a 6 year period were evaluated using anonymised data collection sheets.

Diencephalic syndrome in childhood craniopharyngioma--results of German multicenter studies on 485 long-term survivors of childhood craniopharyngioma.

Context: Childhood craniopharyngiomas (CPs) are known to be associated with an increased risk of excessive weight gain and hypothalamic obesity. Atypical clinical manifestations include the development of a diencephalic syndrome (DS) with a failure to thrive or maintain weight at appropriate body mass index.

Cases And Methods: In a retrospective study, we analyzed 21 of 485 childhood CP patients (4.

Apical lumen formation is a key step during epithelial morphogenesis. The establishment of the apical lumen is a complex process that involves coordinated changes in plasma membrane composition, endocytic transport, and cytoskeleton organization. These changes are accomplished, at least in part, by the targeting and fusion of Rab11/FIP5-containing apical endosomes with the apical membrane initiation site (AMIS).

June 2014

Department of Pediatrics, Klinikum Oldenburg, Medical Campus University Oldenburg, 26133 Oldenburg, Germany.

This report is a review of findings on the diagnosis, treatment, clinical course, and prognosis of craniopharyngioma patients. Craniopharyngiomas are rare, partly cystic and calcified embryonic malformations of the sellar/parasellar region with low histological grade (WHO I°). A bimodal age distribution has been shown, with peak incidence rates in childhood-onset at 5-14 years and adult-onset craniopharyngioma at 50-74 years.
