Background: The triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) and a combination of body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) have been proposed as predictive scores for liver steatosis (LS). The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic accuracy of these indices compared with controlled attenuation parameters (CAPs) and other predictive scores of LS.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients who attended a check-up unit in 2021 was performed.

In preparation for a new version of the CRAT (Centre de référence sur les agents tératogènes) website, an evaluation of user satisfaction was carried out. An invitation to complete an online questionnaire covering the various dimensions of the website (appearance, content, interactivity, ease of use, technical performance) was sent in April 2022 to healthcare professionals who referred to CRAT for clinical expertise over the previous two years. After sending out 3224 individual e-mail invitations, 758 evaluators completed the questionnaire in full (response rate: 23.

Background: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are validated and standardized tools that complement physician evaluations and guide treatment decisions. They are crucial for monitoring atopic dermatitis (AD) and chronic urticaria (CU) in clinical practice, but there are unmet needs and knowledge gaps regarding their use in clinical practice.
Objecctive: We investigated the global real-world use of AD and CU PROMs in allergology and dermatology clinics as well as their associated local and regional networks.

Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors and sphingosine 1 phosphate (S1P) receptor modulators are small molecule drugs (SMDs) approved for IBD treatment. Their use in clinical practice might be limited due to cardiovascular concerns. We aimed to provide guidance on risk assessment, monitoring, and management strategies, aiming to minimize potential cardiovascular risks of SMDs and to facilitate an adequate shared decision-making.

Background: Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is a disease caused by hypersecretion of one or more parathyroid glands, it can be associated with ectopic mediastinal parathyroid glands (MEPA) in 2% of cases. The use of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for the surgical resection of these glands is a safe, cost-effective, and low morbidity option for patients with MEPA. We report a case series of patients with this disease managed with VATS, the first in Mexico and Latinamerica.

Reactive arthritis (RA) is the development of a sterile inflammatory arthritis usually associated with a previously known infection, most commonly from the gastrointestinal or urogenital tract. The diagnosis is clinical, based on the presence of acute oligoarticular arthritis of larger joints developing within two to four weeks of the infection. However, in some cases where the infection is not clear, the diagnosis is a challenge, like in the case presented here.

Introduction Acute appendicitis is a common cause of acute abdomen and the most frequent surgical emergency in the world. Since the nineteenth century, surgical resolution has been the most accepted treatment worldwide, and laparoscopic appendectomy is currently preferred as the treatment of choice because it has several benefits. The closure of the appendiceal stump is the most crucial step during appendectomy since its inadequate management can cause post-surgical complications.

In this editorial, we comment on the article by Zhang entitled Development of a machine learning-based model for predicting the risk of early postoperative recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which is characterized by high incidence and mortality rates, remains a major global health challenge primarily due to the critical issue of postoperative recurrence. Early recurrence, defined as recurrence that occurs within 2 years posttreatment, is linked to the hidden spread of the primary tumor and significantly impacts patient survival. Traditional predictive factors, including both patient- and treatment-related factors, have limited predictive ability with respect to HCC recurrence.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in post-transplant patients is a rare clinical presentation. Although in the literature this neurological condition has been mainly associated with viral infections secondary to immunosuppression, GBS should not only be suspected in patients with an acute condition. It is essential to always rule out a viral or bacterial cause, looking for the most common sources, i.

Background: In many countries, nitrous oxide is used in a gas mixture (EMONO) for short-term analgesia. Cases of addiction, with significant misuse, have been reported in hospitalized patients. Patients suffering from sickle cell disease (SCD) could represent a high-risk population for substance use disorder (SUD) due to their significant pain crisis and repeated use of EMONO.

Background: Most advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cases administered molecular targeted agents and/or anti-programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) inhibitors have no response or develop resistance. Moreover, second-line therapies still cannot provide beneficial clinical outcomes. A pilot study assessing combined regorafenib and PD-1 inhibitor as second-line treatment of advanced HCC reported promising effectiveness.

Background: The therapeutic potential of relaxin for heart failure and renal disease in clinical trials is hampered by the short half-life of serelaxin. Optimization of fatty acid-acetylated single-chain peptide analogues of relaxin culminated in the design and synthesis of R2R01, a potent and selective RXFP1 agonist with subcutaneous bioavailability and extended half-life.
Experimental Approach: Cellular assays and pharmacological models of RXFP1 activation were used to validate the potency and selectivity of R2R01.

Introduction: Clinical reasoning is crucial in medical practice, yet its teaching faces challenges due to varied clinical experiences, limited time, and absence from competency frameworks. Despite efforts, effective teaching methodologies remain elusive. Strategies like the One Minute Preceptor (OMP) and SNAPPS are proposed as solutions, particularly in workplace settings.
