Culture and ICD-11 personality disorder: Implications for clinical practice across diverse ethnic groups.

Background: Personality disorder (PD) in ICD-11 is defined primarily by self and interpersonal dysfunction and optionally by other qualifiers. This definition is inseparable from relativism of cultural determinants.

Aims: This review aimed to synthesize the relevant aspects of the influence of culture on clinical practice and health management for this condition, aligning them to the ICD-11 PD model.

Clinical relevance of reports on early access programs for checkpoint inhibitors in cancer patients: a French retrospective nationwide cohort study.

Background: To accelerate access to new drugs, France operated an early access program known as Temporary Authorizations for Use (ATUs) until 2021. We analyzed clinical reports submitted under ATUs for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) and assessed their clinical relevance regarding the approval of ICIs in oncology.

Methods: We included all ICIs granted an ATU by the French drug safety agency, Agence nationale de sécurité du médicament et des produits de santé (ANSM; French National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products), for patients with cancer between 1 January 2010 and 31 December 2020.

Comparative efficacy of probiotic mixture Bifidobacterium longum KABP042 plus Pediococcus pentosaceus KABP041 vs. Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM17938 in the management of infant colic: a randomized clinical trial.

Unlabelled: We aimed to compare the efficacy of Bifidobacterium longum KABP042 + Pediococcus pentosaceus KABP041 (BL + PP) vs. Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM17938 (LR) in alleviating the symptoms of infant colic, as commercially available formulations. A randomized, multicenter, parallel, single-blind (investigator) trial was conducted in 112 colicky infants diagnosed as per Rome IV criteria and randomly allocated to receive BL + PP orally (10 colony-forming units [CFU]/day, n = 55) or LR (10 CFU/day, n = 57) for 21 days.

Economic burden of hospital admissions for adverse drug reactions in France: The IATROSTAT-ECO study.

Aims: Hospitalizations for adverse drug reactions (ADR-HA) have increased over the last decade, but the impact of ADR-HA has rarely been evaluated. The aim of this study was to estimate the economic burden of ADR-HA in France.

Methods: A partial economic evaluation from the viewpoint of French public health insurance was performed, based on a previous pharmacovigilance study (IATROSTAT) performed in 2018 in public hospital medical units.

Hand Osteoarthritis and Subclinical Cardiovascular Disease in Middle-Aged Women.

To determine subclinical cardiovascular disease (sCVD) in middle-aged women with clinically manifested hand osteoarthritis (HOA) and to improve the characterization of cardiovascular risk in this population. We cross-sectionally evaluated the relationship between HOA and sCVD in 1,803 volunteers from the Mexican Teachers' Cohort. From 2012 to 2016, a subsample from Mexico City, the Northern state Nuevo León, and the Southern states Chiapas and Yucatán was invited for clinical evaluations, during which neurologists examined carotid arteries using ultrasound, and a standardized HOA questionnaire was also administered.

Mortality-Associated Factors in a Traumatic Brain Injury Population in Mexico.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability, with a rising incidence in recent years. Factors such as age, sex, hypotension, low score on the Glasgow Coma Scale, use of invasive mechanical ventilation and vasopressors, etc., have been associated with mortality caused by TBI.

Amphiphilic shuttle peptide delivers base editor ribonucleoprotein to correct the CFTR R553X mutation in well-differentiated airway epithelial cells.

Base editing could correct nonsense mutations that cause cystic fibrosis (CF), but clinical development is limited by the lack of delivery methods that efficiently breach the barriers presented by airway epithelia. Here, we present a novel amphiphilic shuttle peptide based on the previously reported S10 peptide that substantially improved base editor ribonucleoprotein (RNP) delivery. Studies of the S10 secondary structure revealed that the alpha-helix formed by the endosomal leakage domain (ELD), but not the cell penetrating peptide (CPP), was functionally important for delivery.

Worldwide CTEPH Registry: Long-Term Outcomes With Pulmonary Endarterectomy, Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty, and Medical Therapy.

Background: The European Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) registry, conducted between 2007 and 2012, reported the major impact of pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) on the long-term survival of patients with CTEPH. Since then, 2 additional treatments for inoperable CTEPH have become available: balloon pulmonary angioplasty (BPA), and an approved oral drug therapy with the guanylate cyclase stimulator riociguat. The current registry aimed to evaluate the effect of these new therapeutic approaches in a worldwide context.

A Novel Minimally Invasive Robotic-Assisted Surgery Technique for Treatment of Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome: A Case Report.

Median arcuate ligament syndrome (MALS), also known as Dunbar syndrome, is a rare but significant cause of chronic abdominal pain resulting from the extrinsic compression of the celiac trunk. This condition typically manifests with symptoms such as postprandial pain, nausea, vomiting, and weight loss, often leading to a diagnostic challenge due to its mimicry of other abdominal disorders. Diagnosis is based on exclusion and requires a high index of suspicion combined with precise imaging findings.

[Training pharmacy students to conduct targeted interviews on oral anticoagulants: Development and evaluation of training using healthcare simulation].

Objectives: Pharmaceutical care for patients receiving oral anticoagulants (OACs) should be performed by trained healthcare professionals to prevent adverse effects and improve patient adherence. Before meeting patients, all pharmacy students in our department (in a one-year hospital internship program) experienced a theoretical training for several years. It was decided to add a practical component based on simulation training.

Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with liver fibrosis in patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery.

Background: Obesity is a significant risk factor for metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The association between Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection and liver fibrosis has not been fully elucidated in patients with obesity and MASLD.

Methods: This observational retrospective study included clinical and biochemical parameters of patients with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery.

Predictors of first hospitalization due to disease activity and infections in systemic lupus erythematosus patients.

Objectives: To identify the predictive factors of first hospitalization and associated variables to the main causes of hospitalizations in lupus patients from a Latin American cohort.

Methods: The first hospitalization after entry into the cohort during these patients' follow-up due to either lupus disease activity and/or infection was examined. Clinical and therapeutic variables were those occurring prior to the first hospitalization.
