Background: Symptomatic postoperative spinal epidural hematomas (PEDHs) are rare complications, with significant implications on patients' functional outcomes. Strategies for PEDH prevention are poorly understood. This study sought to evaluate preoperative and intraoperative variables predicting the risk of PEDH and patients' functional outcomes after PEDH evacuation.

Purpose: Estimating resection weight for patients undergoing reduction mammoplasty (RM) informs surgical planning and outcomes. Existing formulas have limitations that make insurance coverage and accurate surgical planning challenging. We identified the most commonly used scales to evaluate their accuracy in estimating resection weight by applying them to a database of patients to compare calculated and actual resection weights.

Despite proven benefits and policy reforms, the use of telemedicine remains low due to several patient, technology, and system-level barriers. Assisted telemedicine employs trained health professionals to connect patients with physicians, which can improve access and scope of telemedicine.

Background: There is a growing body of research highlighting that Black women have more adverse maternal health events. Instead of only focusing on severe maternal morbidity and mortality events, patient safety events (PSEs) and feedback reports are data sources that can offer insights into a broader spectrum of maternal safety, including near misses, and unsafe conditions. In this work, we explore the racial differences in the representation of mothers and birthing individuals' (MBIs) voices in PSE and feedback reports.

The establishment of the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) in 2011 provided a comprehensive approach to standardized imaging, interpretation, and reporting of liver observations in patients diagnosed with or at risk for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Each set of algorithms provides criteria pertinent to the various components of HCC management including surveillance, diagnosis, staging, and treatment response supported by a detailed lexicon of terms applicable to a wide range of liver imaging scenarios. Before its widespread adoption, the variability in the terminology of diagnostic criteria and definitions of imaging features led to significant challenges in patient management and made it difficult to replicate findings or apply them consistently.

Background: Myocardial infarction with nonobstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) occurs in 6-15 % of MI patients. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging identifies MINOCA etiologies, but access may be limited.
Methods: We assessed associations between the index electrocardiogram (ECG) and CMR in MINOCA.
Background: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a well-recognized complication in patients undergoing liver transplantation (LT), particularly those with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a leading cause of cirrhosis in the modern era. This study sought to refine risk stratification for CKD events post-LT in cirrhosis patients with MASH by leveraging baseline renal function at transplant.
Methods: A total of 717 MASH cirrhosis patients who had LT (1997-2017) at 7 US centers (NailMASH Consortium) were analyzed.

Background: Among patients with aortic stenosis, ventricular remodeling by hypertrophy can limit the augmentation of flow with exertion, even after valve intervention. However, the effect of hypertrophy on quality of life (QoL) improvement has not been studied. We aimed to determine the effect of ventricular hypertrophy on QoL outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

Cardiac physiologic pacing (CPP) after atrioventricular node (AVN) ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) has improved outcomes in patients with heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Emerging evidence suggests patients with HFpEF benefit from higher heart rates, yet the optimal pacing rate after AVN ablation remains unknown. Optimal Pacing Rate for cardiac resynchronization therapy after atrioventricular node ablation in persistent Atrial Fibrillation and heart failure (OPT-RATE AF) is a prospective, randomized crossover study of patients with HFpEF after AVN ablation for persistent AF (NCT06445439).

Genomic instability is associated with late stage carcinomas and the epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT). Of note is chromosome 8q24 amplification that has been documented in many epithelial-derived carcinomas. On this amplified region is the potent oncogene, c-myc.

Background: National heart failure guidelines recommend quadruple therapy with renin-angiotensin system inhibitors, beta-blockers, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), most of whom also receive loop diuretics. However, the guidelines are less clear about the safe approaches to discontinuing older drugs whose decreasing or residual benefit is less well understood. The objective of this study was to examine whether digoxin can be safely discontinued in patients with HFrEF receiving beta-blockers.

Objective: Since February 2022, the number of casualties in the Russian-Ukrainian war have dramatically increased, with a high incidence of penetrating traumatic brain injuries (pTBIs). To date, there has been limited evaluation of pTBI of the anterior skull base involving the paranasal sinuses. The objective of this study was to highlight the authors' experience with this injury pattern and identify specific factors associated with favorable short-term (1-month) outcome and survival.

Purpose: Preclinical data indicate that fianlimab (antilymphocyte activation gene-3) plus cemiplimab (anti-PD-1) enhances antitumor activity. Here, we report prespecified final analyses of the dose-escalation part of a first-in-human, phase 1 study (NCT03005782) of fianlimab as monotherapy and in combination with cemiplimab in patients with advanced malignancies.
Patients And Methods: Adult patients received 1 to 40 mg/kg of fianlimab plus 350 mg of cemiplimab every 3 weeks (Q3W) across various dose-escalation schedules.

Deep-learning auto-segmentation (DLAS) aims to streamline contouring in clinical settings. Nevertheless, achieving clinical acceptance of DLAS remains a hurdle in abdominal MRI, hindering the implementation of efficient clinical workflows for MR-guided online adaptive radiotherapy (MRgOART). Integrating automated contour quality assurance (ACQA) with automatic contour correction (ACC) techniques could optimize the performance of ACC by concentrating on inaccurate contours.
