Cable deployment system for unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) mobile microgrids.

An ad hoc autonomous mobile microgrid system requires electrical connections to be formed between physically separated resources. This work proposes the use of unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) as the means to deploy the electrical cable that creates these connections. This operation requires careful control of the cabling at variable speeds to avoid entanglement with the deploying UGV or obstacles in complex outdoor environments.

Research to law: A qualitative study of Massachusetts' 2018 Care Act expanding emergency department initiation of medication for opioid use disorder.

Background: Initiating medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) during emergency department (ED) visits is an important innovation to engage individuals in addiction treatment. In 2018, Massachusetts passed the CARE Act, becoming the first state to legislate that hospitals with EDs must be able to offer MOUD. We performed a qualitative study to explore factors influencing policy enactment.

Association Between Fatal Occupational Injuries and State Minimum-Wage Laws, 2003-2017.

Introduction: Low wages are associated with an increased risk of occupational injuries. Increasing the minimum wage is one way to increase workers' wages; however, a previous study found that higher state minimum wage was associated with an increase in nonfatal occupational injuries and illnesses. This study aims to examine the association between state minimum-wage laws and fatal occupational injuries.

Health insurance expansion and family violence prevention: A conceptual framework.

Family violence, including child maltreatment (CM) and intimate partner violence (IPV), plagues far too many American families, particularly those in low-income communities. CM and IPV are intertwined and impose a significant emotional, health and financial burden on children and families and an economic burden on our country. Although these and other forms of violence are influenced by shared risk factors across the socioecological spectrum, prevention efforts typically intervene on a single type of violence at a microsystem level via individual or family intervention.

Transmission of epigenetic information between generations occurs in nematodes, flies and plants, mediated by specialised small RNA pathways, modified histones and DNA methylation. Similar processes in mammals can also affect phenotype through intergenerational or trans-generational mechanisms. Here we generate a luciferase knock-in reporter mouse for the imprinted Dlk1 locus to visualise and track epigenetic fidelity across generations.

This study sought to examine public support for gun carrying-related policies from 2019 to 2021, a period encompassing the COVID-19 pandemic and increasing calls for racial and social justice. We conducted the National Survey of Gun Policy in January 2019 and 2021. The surveys were fielded using the NORC AmeriSpeak panel.

Online Literacy Instruction for Young Korean Dual Language Learners in General Education.

English language development is a critical component for young children's school readiness. In this study, we examined the effect of (Justice and McGinty in Read it again!-Prek: a preschool curriculum supplement to promote language and literacy foundations, Crane Center for Early Childhood Research and Policy, Columbus, 2013), a literacy curriculum designed to prepare young children's school readiness on the English literacy skills of Korean dual language learners in general education. Using a multiple probe design, eight 4- to 5-year-old Korean dual language learners (1 female, 7 males) received 1:1 online synchronous daily instruction over 2 months during the summer before entering their kindergarten programs.

The European Society of Radiology (ESR) established the ESR International Forum in order to discuss hot topics in the profession of radiology with non-European radiological partner societies.

Effects of State Opioid Prescribing Laws on Use of Opioid and Other Pain Treatments Among Commercially Insured U.S. Adults.

Background: There is concern that state laws to curb opioid prescribing may adversely affect patients with chronic noncancer pain, but the laws' effects are unclear because of challenges in disentangling multiple laws implemented around the same time.

Objective: To study the association between state opioid prescribing cap laws, pill mill laws, and mandatory prescription drug monitoring program query or enrollment laws and trends in opioid and guideline-concordant nonopioid pain treatment among commercially insured adults, including a subgroup with chronic noncancer pain conditions.

Design: Thirteen treatment states that implemented a single law of interest in a 4-year period and unique groups of control states for each treatment state were identified.

Understanding the Molecular Mechanisms of Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase Deficiency (SSADHD): Towards the Development of SSADH-Targeted Medicine.

Succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase deficiency (SSADHD) is a rare genetic disorder caused by inefficient metabolic breakdown of the major inhibitory neurotransmitter, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA). Pathologic brain accumulation of GABA and γ-hydroxybutyrate (GHB), a neuroactive by-product of GABA catabolism, leads to a multitude of molecular abnormalities beginning in early life, culminating in multifaceted clinical presentations including delayed psychomotor development, intellectual disability, hypotonia, and ataxia. Paradoxically, over half of patients with SSADHD also develop epilepsy and face a significant risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).

Identification of Distinct Long COVID Clinical Phenotypes Through Cluster Analysis of Self-Reported Symptoms.

Background: We aimed to describe the clinical presentation of individuals presenting with prolonged recovery from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), known as long COVID.

Methods: This was an analysis within a multicenter, prospective cohort study of individuals with a confirmed diagnosis of COVID-19 and persistent symptoms >4 weeks from onset of acute symptoms. We performed a multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) on the most common self-reported symptoms and hierarchical clustering on the results of the MCA to identify symptom clusters.

Impact of angiotensin receptor-neprilysin inhibition on vascular function in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: A pilot study.

The mechanisms for the benefits of Angiotensin Receptor Neprilysin Inhibition (ARNi) in heart failure patients with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) are likely beyond blood pressure reduction. Measures of vascular function such as arterial stiffness and endothelial function are strong prognostic markers of cardiovascular outcomes in HFrEF, yet the impact of ARNi on vascular health remains to be explored. We hypothesized that arterial stiffness and endothelial function would improve after 12 weeks of ARNi in HFrEF.

Is the Affordable Care Act Medicaid Expansion Associated With Reported Incidents of Child Sexual Abuse?

There is substantial evidence that adequate access to healthcare among low-income adults through the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion mitigates risk factors associated with childhood maltreatment, including parental financial insecurity, substance use, and poor mental health. Indeed, studies identified reduced reports of child neglect in states that expanded Medicaid, relative to those that did not. However, it is unknown whether Medicaid expansion is associated with reported child sexual abuse (CSA).

Scaling Evidence-Based Interventions to Improve the Cardiovascular Health of People With Serious Mental Illness.

People with serious mental illnesses (SMIs) experience excess mortality, driven in large part by high rates of cardiovascular disease (CVD), with all cardiovascular disease risk factors elevated. Interventions designed to improve the cardiovascular health of people with SMI have been shown to lead to clinically significant improvements in clinical trials; however, the uptake of these interventions into real-life clinical settings remains limited. Implementation strategies, which constitute the "how to" component of changing healthcare practice, are critical to supporting the scale-up of evidence-based interventions that can improve the cardiovascular health of people with SMI.

Determining Predictors of Weight Loss in a Behavioral Intervention: A Case Study in the Use of Lasso Regression.

Objective: This study investigates predictors of weight loss among individuals with serious mental illness participating in an 18-month behavioral weight loss intervention, using Lasso regression to select the most powerful predictors.

Methods: Data were analyzed from the intervention group of the ACHIEVE trial, an 18-month behavioral weight loss intervention in adults with serious mental illness. Lasso regression was employed to identify predictors of at least five-pound weight loss across the intervention time span.
