Background: Aortopathy in Turner syndrome is associated with aortic dilation, and the risk of dissection is increased when the aortic size index is ≥ 2-2.5 cm/m. We evaluated the aortic biophysical properties in paediatric Turner syndrome using cardiac MRI to determine their relationship to aortic size index.

Objectives: The indications for use, evidence base and experience with the novel noncovered open hybrid surgical stents for acute type A aortic dissection repair for concurrent stabilization of the 'downstream' aorta remains limited. We review the evidence base and the development of these stents.
Methods: Data were collected from Pubmed/Medline literature search to develop and review the evidence base for safety and efficacy of non-covered surgical stents.

Background And Aims: In the COMPASS trial, low-dose rivaroxaban with aspirin improved cardiovascular outcomes in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). We aimed to assess the potential clinical implications of this therapy in a generalizable population.
Methods And Results: A retrospective cohort of adults with ASVCD was formed using healthcare administrative databases in Alberta, Canada (population 4.

Background: The development of tools to support shared decision-making should be informed by patients' decisional needs and treatment preferences, which are largely unknown for heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) pharmacotherapy decisions. We aimed to identify patients' decisional needs when considering HFrEF medication options.
Methods: This was a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews.

Lipoprotein(a) (Lp[a]) is an low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-like particle in which apolipoprotein (apo) B is covalently bound to a plasminogen-like molecule called apo(a). A High level of Lp(a) has been demonstrated to be an independent, causal, and prevalent risk factor for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), as well as aortic valve disease, through mechanisms that promote atherogenesis, inflammation, and thrombosis. With reliable and accessible assays, Lp(a) level has been established to be associated linearly with the risk for ASCVD.

Introduction: Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a heritable disease that is the result of dysregulation of the transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) pathway. The pathogenic variants associated with the condition are linked to aortic aneurysms and dissections along with other cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular abnormalities. LDS type III is associated with pathogenic variants in the SMAD3 gene responsible for signally in the TGFβ pathway.

• Leaflet prolapse, flail, and perforation often result in eccentric MR. • Eccentric jets appear smaller than central jets of similar severity on color Doppler. • The use of UEAs is helpful in better visualizing eccentric MR jets on TTE.

Objectives: To determine guideline adherence pertaining to pulmonary valve replacement (PVR) referral after tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) repair.
Methods: Children and adults with cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging scans and at least moderate pulmonary regurgitation were prospectively enrolled in the Comprehensive Outcomes Registry Late After TOF Repair (CORRELATE). Individuals with previous PVR were excluded.

Patients receiving dialysis have high cardiovascular risk in part due to extensive vascular calcification. In the CaLIPSO study, infusion of hexasodium fytate (SNF472), the hexasodium salt of inositol hexaphosphate, for 52 weeks thrice weekly during hemodialysis significantly reduced progression of coronary artery calcification (CAC). This report examines pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) and exposure-efficacy in CaLIPSO.

Purpose Of Review: The application of ultrasound-enhancing agents (contrast agents) has improved the accuracy and reproducibility of echocardiography. The review focuses on the currently approved and evolving indications for contrast echocardiography in patients with heart failure, specifically examining clinical studies conducted after the publication of the guidelines in 2017 and 2018.
Recent Findings: The current ASE/EACVI recommendations for contrast echocardiography are based on its accuracy and reproducibility in comparison to non-enhanced echocardiography or other imaging modalities like cardiac MRI.

Background: The Resynchronization-Defibrillation for Ambulatory Heart Failure Trial (RAFT) showed a greater benefit with respect to mortality at 5 years among patients who received cardiac-resynchronization therapy (CRT) than among those who received implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs). However, the effect of CRT on long-term survival is not known.
Methods: We randomly assigned patients with New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II or III heart failure, a left ventricular ejection fraction of 30% or less, and an intrinsic QRS duration of 120 msec or more (or a paced QRS duration of 200 msec or more) to receive either an ICD alone or a CRT defibrillator (CRT-D).

Background: Since the publication of the 2010 Canadian antiplatelet guidelines, several large randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have evaluated the role of aspirin (ASA) use in primary prevention. We evaluated the effect of ASA use, compared with no ASA, on ischemic and bleeding events in patients without known atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases.
Methods: We updated a published systematic review and meta-analysis by searching MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL for the period up to March 2023.

Aims: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a prevalent disease worldwide. While it is well established that alterations of cardiac energy metabolism contribute to cardiovascular pathology, the precise source of fuel used by the heart in HFpEF remains unclear. The objective of this study was to define the energy metabolic profile of the heart in HFpEF.

Heart failure is a prevalent disease worldwide. While it is well accepted that heart failure involves changes in myocardial energetics, what alterations that occur in fatty acid oxidation and glucose oxidation in the failing heart remains controversial. The goal of the study are to define the energy metabolic profile in heart failure induced by obesity and hypertension in aged female mice, and to attempt to lessen the severity of heart failure by stimulating myocardial glucose oxidation.

Coronary artery fistula (CAF), although one of the rare coronary anomalies, is becoming increasingly more detectable in the recent years due to advancements in cardiac diagnostic imaging. Its long-term prognostic implications and importance for the cardiovascular system remain a dilemma for cardiologists and patients. Based on a variety of haemodynamic symptoms and complications, cardiologists must be aware of the characteristics of CAF and the diagnostic importance of multi-slice CT in evaluation, pre-procedural management and follow-up.
