The impact of obesity on perceived patient-centred communication.

Objective: Patient-provider communication has been found to be less patient centred, on average, with patients who are members of stigmatized or minority groups. Obesity is a stigmatized condition, and thus, people with obesity may experience less patient-centred communication (PCC). The objective of this study was to assess the association between patient body mass index (BMI) and self-reported quality of PCC experienced over a 12-month period and whether that relationship differed for men and women.

Florid dermatopathic lymphadenopathy-A morphological mimic of Langerhans cell histiocytosis.

The histopathology of reactive florid dermatopathic lymphadenopathy shows overlap with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) involving the lymph node, which may lead to misdiagnosis. These entities can be distinguished by recognition of the sinus-based distribution of Langerhans cells in LCH, in contrast to the paracortical distribution of Langerhans cells, pigment-laden histiocytes, and small lymphocytes in dermatopathic lymphadenopathy.

Von Willebrand factor multimer quantitation for assessment of cardiac lesion severity and bleeding risk.

Background: von Willebrand factor (VWF) multimer quantitation has been utilized in the assessment of valvular heart disease, however, there is no standardized method for quantitation. We compared three methods of assessment which utilized a normal plasma control.

Methods: We analyzed 476 samples and their control plasma from 368 patients with valvular heart disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, or LVAD therapy, and 27 normal subjects.

The proliferation of cardiac-related biomarkers and advocacy for their use has often come without adequate discussion of limitations in the interpretation of values and their best use in heart failure (HF) patients to provide a balanced assessment of how cardiac biomarkers are advocated for use in HF and areas where we would argue there are no gaps in knowledge. We include suggestions to address these issues. We have focused on peer-reviewed publications over the period 2000 to present.
