COVID-19 and hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and thrombocytopenia syndrome in pregnant women - association or causation?

Pregnant women are among the high-risk population for severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with unfavorable peripartum outcomes and increased incidence of preterm births. Hemolysis, the elevation of liver enzymes, and low platelet count (HELLP) syndrome and severe preeclampsia are among the leading causes of maternal mortality. Evidence supports a higher odd of pre-eclampsia in women with COVID-19, given overlapping pathophysiology.

ICU Admissions and Outcomes of Childhood Cancer Patients in Single Tertiary Hospital in the Private Sector in India.

Ramandeep Singh Arora  Modern-day treatment of childhood cancer is punctuated by the necessary need for intensive care. This study was performed to understand the intensive care unit (ICU) admission rates and factors associated with ICU admission in a cohort of newly diagnosed childhood cancer patients in India.  All childhood (age <18 years) patients in the hospital-based cancer registry who had registered between March 1, 2013, and May 31, 2018, formed the cohort.

NOTTO COVID-19 Vaccine Guidelines for Transplant Recipients.

In December 2019, novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection started in Wuhan and resulted in a pandemic within a few weeks' time. Organ transplant recipients being at a risk for more severe COVID-19 if they get SARS CoV-2 viral infection, COVID-19 vaccine has a significant role in these patients. The vaccine is a safer way to help build protection and would either prevent COVID-19 infection or at least diminish the severity of the disease.

Global Differences in Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction: The PARAGON-HF Trial.

Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is a global public health problem with important regional differences. We investigated these differences in the PARAGON-HF trial (Prospective Comparison of Angiotensin Receptor Neprilysin Inhibitor With Angiotensin Receptor Blocker Global Outcomes in HFpEF), the largest and most inclusive global HFpEF trial.

Methods: We studied differences in clinical characteristics, outcomes, and treatment effects of sacubitril/valsartan in 4796 patients with HFpEF from the PARAGON-HF trial, grouped according to geographic region.

An Ethnographic Study of the Moral Experiences of Children with Cancer in New Delhi, India.

There is a paucity of research examining children's experiences with cancer in India. Childhood ethics is an emerging field, focusing on the moral dimension of children's experiences, to promote children's participation in their health care. A focused ethnography, using a moral experience framework, was conducted to better understand children's participation in decisions, discussions, and actions in three oncology settings in New Delhi, India.

Study Design: This prospective, nonrandomized, analytic comparative study analyzed the outcome of 100 patients who underwent spinal fusion surgeries (Posterolateral fusion (PLF) and posterior lumbar interbody fusion [PLIF]) with 6 months of follow-up.

Objective: The aim of our study was to compare clinicoradiological outcome of the lumbar spinal fusion surgeries (PLF vs. PLIF/transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion [TLIF]), to assess the quality of life pre- and post-operatively in all patients, and to compare the results within the groups.

We report acute lead fracture during pacemaker implantation. Suturing the lead without the sleeve might damage the lead. To avoid this result, we suggest tying knots tightly, but not too vigorously.

Laparoscopic management of a case of accessory gall bladder with review of literature.

Gall bladder duplication is a rare congenital anomaly. True duplication is still rarer. Pre-operative detection helps in avoiding complications or missing the gall bladder during surgery.
