We reviewed eight commonly used equilibrium adsorption models and examined their underlying assumptions, fitting qualities, and parameter stabilities. We compared several objective functions that have been applied to curve fitting analysis and a few statistics tests that have been performed to evaluate regression quality. The iteratively reweighted least squares algorithm was selected as the most suitable regression method for adsorption models in the presence of heteroscedasticity.

We report here for the first time on surface immobilization of hollow faceted polyhedrons formed from catanionic surfactant mixtures. We find that electrostatic interaction with the substrate dominates their adhesion behavior. Using polyelectrolyte coated surfaces with tailored charge densities, polyhedrons can thus be immobilized without complete spreading, which allows for further study of their mechanical properties using AFM force measurements.

Mechanical properties of polyelectrolyte multilayer capsules were studied using a new method combining atomic-force microscopy and reflection interference contrast microscopy. By measuring the force vs. deformation for poly(styrene sulfonate)/poly(allylamine) capsules the existence of different deformation regimes depending on the applied deformation was shown.
