Dunal, abundant in the Indian subcontinent as Ashwagandha or winter cherry, is a herb of unprecedented therapeutic value. The number of ailments for which crude Ashwagandha extract can be used as a preventive or curative is practically limitless; and this explains why its use has been in vogue in ancient Ayurveda since at-least about four thousand years. The therapeutic potential of Ashwagandha mainly owes from its reservoir of alkaloids (isopelletierine, anaferine), steroidal lactones (withanolides) and saponins with an extra acyl group (sitoindoside VII and VIII).

Therapeutic potential of lipid nanosystems for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Ageing Res Rev

August 2023

University of Sharjah, College of Health Sciences, and Research Institute for Medical and Health Sciences, Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences. Electronic address:

Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. The degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the midbrain is primarily responsible for the onset of the disease. The major challenge faced in the treatment of PD is the blood-brain barrier (BBB), which impedes the delivery of therapeutics to targeted locations.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma-related antigen is not always sensitive enough for the early detection of oral cancer which is why a new marker has been desired as a substitute to be applied for serum diagnosis of oral cancer. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) has been known to play an important role in carcinogenesis. Glutathione-s-transferases (GSTs) are a family of eukaryotic and prokaryotic phase-II metabolic isoenzymes involved in xenobiotic detoxification.

December 2022

Department of Biotechnology, JIS University, Kolkata, West Bengal 700109, India. Electronic address:

Biofouling is the undesirable attachment of organisms and their by-products on surfaces. It has become a severe problem in the industries that utilize devices and facilities in the marine environment. Several antifouling strategies have been developed, but many have adverse effects on numerous species, the surrounding environment, and marine devices.

Anti-microbial resistance (AMR) has recently emerged as an area of high interest owing to the rapid surge of AMR phenotypes. Metal oxide NPs (MeONPs) have been identified as novel phytomedicine and have recently peaked a lot of interest due to their potential applications in combating phytopathogens, besides enhancing plant growth and yields. Numerous MeONPs (TiO, MgO, CuO, AgO, SiO, ZnO, and CaO) have been synthesized and tested to validate their antimicrobial roles without causing toxicity to the cells.

In the present study, the use of low-cost, highly efficient, eco-friendly, and abundantly available (in Kashmir region, J&K India) willow leaves from which adsorbents like willow leaves powder (WLP) and willow leaves biochar (WLB) were prepared, have been found to be efficient for malachite green (MG) dye removal and can be used as an alternative to the current expensive methods of removing the same dye from an aqueous solution. The techniques like Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur (CHNS) analyser were used to characterize the samples without any chemical treatment. SEM of the adsorbents shows the presence of different sized pores, cracks, and crevices.

Recent advances in exosome biology have revealed significant roles of exosome and their contents in intercellular communication. Among various exosomal content, long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), which have a large size (˃ 200 nt) and lack protein coding potential, are known to play key roles in intercellular communication and novel biomarkers of various metabolic disorders. Moreover, long non-coding RNAs are often involved in the regulation of various cellular processes such as autophagy, apoptosis, cell proliferation.

Detection of methanol (MeOH) in an ethanol (EtOH)/isopropanol ( PrOH) medium containing water is crucial to recognize MeOH poisoning in alcoholic beverages and hand sanitizers. Although chemical sensing methods are very sensitive and easy to perform, the chemical similarities between the alcohols make MeOH detection very challenging particularly in the presence of water. Herein, the fluorometric detection of a trace amount of MeOH in EtOH/ PrOH in the presence of water using alcohol coordinated Al(iii)-complexes of an aldehydic phenol ligand containing a dangling pyrazole unit is described.

Critical review on karyotype diversity in lentil based on classical and molecular cytogenetics.

Mol Biol Rep

October 2022

Department of Botany, Maulana Azad College, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road, Kolkata, West Bengal, 700013, India.

Lentil is an annual protein rich valuable edible crop with only one cultivated and six wild taxa. Keeping in mind its narrow gene pool, the genus deserves critical assessment of genomic diversity at the chromosomal level. Genetic diversity represents the heritable variation within and between populations of organisms.

Visiting Scholar, College of Life Science, Maulana Azad College of Arts and Science, Aurangabad, India; Department of biology, Wasit University, bagdhadh, Iraq. Electronic address:

The current study investigates the NLRP3's cytotoxicity inhibitory effect among ovarian cancer cells and how it interacts with Wnt/β-catenin in vitro conditions. Further, the study also analyzed the regulatory role of NLRP3 in resistance to gemcitabine among ovarian cancer cells and its underlying interaction mechanisms with Wnt/β-catenin in vitro. The current in vitro study detailed that when downregulating NLRP3, it could enhance the gemcitabine sensitivity in GRC cells.

Exosomes are one type of small extracellular vesicles (EVs) having a size range of 30-150 nm and secreted by the endosomal compartment of most eukaryotic cells. It has been found that exosomes (EVs) can serve as a communicating vehicle to transfer information among cells and thus can be associated with numerous physiological and pathological functions. In this study, we have isolated exosomes (EVs) from two different human cancer cell lines.

Vanadium toxicity is a globally recognized threat to the reproductive health of man and animal. However the mechanism of vanadium-induced damage to the testicular and adrenocortical tissues is not fully characterized. It was hypothesized that prostaglandins may partially mediate the inflammatory response to vanadate damage.

December 2020

Department of Mathematics, Maulana Azad College of arts, Science and Commerce, RozaBagh, Aurangabad, Maharashtra, 431001, India.

A mathematical model for the spread of the COVID-19 disease based on a fractional Atangana-Baleanu operator is studied. Some fixed point theorems and generalized Gronwall inequality through the AB fractional integral are applied to obtain the existence and stability results. The fractional Adams-Bashforth is used to discuss the corresponding numerical results.

Article Synopsis
  • COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, poses a significant threat to humans due to its higher transmissibility despite lower pathogenicity compared to the earlier SARS-CoV.
  • Researchers conducted a comparative analysis of the structural proteins of both viruses, discovering that changes in amino acids in the spike glycoproteins of SARS-CoV-2 lead to the formation of intrinsically disordered regions, which may enhance viral fusion with host cells.
  • The study suggests that these mutations in spike glycoproteins could be key in increasing transmissibility, providing insights for improved epidemic surveillance and preventive strategies against COVID-19.
