Introduction: The present study aimed to identify the physical demands of Brazilian Air Force (BAF) critical Combat Tasks (CTs) and investigate the occurrence of differences in their difficulty perceived ratings, considering aspects such as sex, military experience, and academic degree of the evaluators.
Methods: The Subject Matter Expert (SME) cohort was assembled based on the BAF's Physical Training Specialists (n = 13, military, at least 2 years of experience). Based on the BAF's previous studies, a questionnaire defining and rating the physical demands of 12 BAF critical CTs was developed.
Agenamyia Albuquerque, 1953 is exclusive of the Neotropical region and is a poorly studied group. Here we described one new species from Colombia, namely Agenamyia diversa sp. nov.

Amyloid aggregates arise from either the partial or complete loss of the native protein structure or the inability of proteins to attain their native conformation. These aggregates have been linked to several diseases, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and lysozyme amyloidosis. A comprehensive dataset was recently reported, demonstrating the critical role of the protein's surrounding environment in amyloid formation.

Insect pollinator biodiversity is changing rapidly, with potential consequences for the provision of crop pollination. However, the role of land use-climate interactions in pollinator biodiversity changes, as well as consequent economic effects via changes in crop pollination, remains poorly understood. We present a global assessment of the interactive effects of climate change and land use on pollinator abundance and richness and predictions of the risk to crop pollination from the inferred changes.

Laboratory tests help to determine a diagnosis, to plan treatment, and to indicate prognosis of diseases. However, the interpretation of test results in reptiles is challenging, because they are influenced by environmental and individual factors. Therefore, the objective of this study was to establish hematologic parameters of Geoffroy's side-necked turtle (), including variables such as season, environment, sex, and straight carapace length (SCL).

Most of the soil quality assessment protocols are focused on crop production and conservation management, while studies on vital soil functions, such as water recharge potential, should be incorporated into the monitoring of impacts on environmental quality. Our objective was to evaluate, through the Nexus approach, how dynamic (land use and management) and inherent (soil type) factors impact soil physical properties and processes that drive water recharge potential, biomass production, and water erosion in the Cantareira System, Brazil. The assessment considered three soils (Typic Hapludult, Typic Dystrudept, and Typic Usthortent) and four land uses (native forest, rotational grazing, extensive grazing, and eucalyptus), which constitute the main soils and land uses in the Cantareira System region.

Caiman meat is considered exotic and its consumption has significantly increased due to its nutritional quality. This study aimed to evaluate the kinetics of water content (WC) and salt content (SC) at different temperatures (1, 5, 10 and 15 °C) and to evaluate the use of mathematical models to predict the mass transfer kinetics until equilibrium conditions during the wet salting of caiman tail fillets. Moisture and chloride analyses were performed throughout the wet salting process.

The titanium alloy composition and microdesign affect the dynamic interplay between the bone cells and titanium surface in the osseointegration process. The current study aimed to evaluate the surface physicochemical properties, electrochemical stability, and the metabolic response of the MC3T3-E1 cells (pre-osteoblast cell line) cultured onto titanium-15molybdenum (Ti-15Mo) discs treated with phosphoric acid (HPO) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and/or strontium-loading by the hydrothermal method. The x-ray dispersive energy spectroscopy (EDS) and x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed no trace of impurities and the possible formation of hydrated strontium oxide (HOSr), respectively.

Different species of the genus have been used in folk medicine for the treatment of inflammation, fever, ulcers, diabetes, and diarrhea. We analyzed the phytochemical profile of the hydroethanolic extract from leaves by electrospray ionization ion trap tandem mass spectrometry and high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detection, and examined whether it alone and in combination with cisplatin interfered with cell proliferation and death processes in HepG2 (human hepatocellular carcinoma) and FGH (human gingival fibroblasts) cells. Five compounds were identified in the extract: gallic acid, myricetin-3---l-arabinopyranoside, quercetin-3---d-galactopyranoside, myricetin-3---l-rhamnopyranoside, and myricetin-3---d-galactopyranoside.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is a key molecule in the initiation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis. Thus, knowledge about GnRH may contribute to the effectiveness of species reproduction. Using a Neotropical tetra Astyanax altiparanae as a fish model species, the GnRH forms were characterized at the molecular level and the role of injected GnRHs in vivo was evaluated.

In Brazil, the recognition of speakers for forensic purposes still relies on a subjectivity-based decision-making process through a results analysis of untrustworthy techniques. Owing to the lack of a voice database, speaker verification is currently applied to samples specifically collected for confrontation. However, speaker comparative analysis via contested discourse requires the collection of an excessive amount of voice samples for a series of individuals.
