Objective: To assess the performance of the new EULAR/ACR criteria, particularly for early detection of cSLE, in comparison to the SLICC criteria among the pediatric population in multiple centers in Saudi Arabia.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study that enrolled pediatric patients up to the age of 14 years who've been diagnosed with SLE and followed in pediatric rheumatology clinics at 9 multi-tertiary hospitals in Saudi Arabia from 2010 to 2021 as a case group and were compared to a similar group of pediatric patients who've had defined rheumatological diseases other than SLE with a positive ANA titer (≥1:80) as controls. In total, 245 patients were included and distributed as 129 cases (diagnosed by expert pediatric rheumatologists) versus 116 patients in the control group.

Background Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is a bacterial infection caused by Neisseria meningitidis, which primarily affects the meninges, with a high incidence in young children. The most effective technique for preventing IMD is vaccination, which has been available for over 40 years through meningococcal polysaccharide capsule-containing vaccines. This study aims to assess the parental knowledge of meningococcal disease and vaccination in the Makkah region of Saudi Arabia.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study comparing continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) to multiple daily injections (MDI) in children with type 1 diabetes in Saudi Arabia found higher average HbA1c levels in those using MDI, indicating worse glycemic control.
  • * Despite the difference in HbA1c levels, the rates of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) were similar between the two methods, suggesting the need for longer follow-up studies to assess the long-term impacts of these insulin delivery methods.

Objectives: Polymorphisms of the uridine-diphospho-glucuronosyltransferase 1A1 () gene, hepatic solute carrier organic anion transporter 1B1/B3 () gene, and glutathione S-transferase () gene have been associated with significant hyperbilirubinemia in some populations. This study aims to determine whether the variation of , and genes play an important role in neonatal hyperbilirubinemia in Turkish newborn infants.

Methods: The study included 61 idiopathic hyperbilirubinemia cases, 28 prolonged jaundice cases, and 41 controls.

Introduction: The utilization of laparoscopic techniques in the management of inguinal hernias among pediatric patients has seen a rising trend. We aimed to assess the efficacy of laparoscopic excision of the hernial sac as a suitable approach for managing inguinal hernias specifically in female patients and conducted a prospective study to investigate this hypothesis.

Methods: Over a comprehensive four-year period, a total of 99 hernias in 69 female patients were surgically addressed using laparoscopic methods.

The terms developmental epileptic encephalopathy with spike-and-wave activation in sleep (DEE-SWAS) and epileptic encephalopathy with spike-and-wave activation in sleep (EE-SWAS) designate a spectrum of conditions that are typified by different combinations of motor, cognitive, language, and behavioral regression linked to robust spike-and-wave activity during sleep. In this study, we aimed at describing the clinical and molecular findings in "(developmental) epileptic encephalopathy with spike-and-wave activation in sleep" (D)EE-SWAS) patients as well as at contributing to the genetic etiologic spectrum of (D)EE-SWAS. Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array and whole-exome sequencing (WES) techniques were used to determine the underlying genetic etiologies.
