Enhancing Efficiency in Meniscal Repair: A Novel In-House Vacuum Suction Technique for Suture Loading in Long Hollow Needles and Devices.

Background: Suture-loaded long hollow needles are used in arthroscopic surgery to pass or retrieve sutures and in meniscal repair surgeries. However, manual suture loading can be time-consuming and challenging, especially with finer sutures. We present a novel technique using vacuum suction to simplify and expedite suture loading in hollow needles and similar devices.

Return to Sport After Multiligament Knee Injury: A Systematic Review of the Literature.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to conduct a comprehensive assessment of MLKI outcome studies in order to ascertain the overall rates of return to sport following MLKI.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted based on the PRISMA guidelines. Quality assessment of the systematic review was performed using the MINORS Score.

Knee Instability Following Fractures Around the Knee Joint: Diagnostic Dilemma and Management Challenges.

Aim: Knee instability following fractures around the knee joint is not uncommon but is often missed. They present challenges in identifying them during index injury or at follow-up. We share our experience of knee instability following fractures around the knee joint.

Magnetic resonance imaging shows low sensitivity but good specificity in detecting ramp lesions in children and adolescents with ACL injury: A systematic review.

Importance: The diagnosis of ramp lesions can be problematic, even with arthroscopy, due to their extreme posteromedial position. Consequently, they have been colloquially referred to as the "hidden lesions" of the knee. Undiagnosed and untreated injuries in this knee region may be associated with ongoing dynamic rotational laxity of the knee after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and an increased risk of anterior cruciate ligament graft failure.

Introduction to Osteoporosis, Osteomalacia, and Fragility Fractures.

Background: Osteoporosis is a disease of the bones leading to decreased bone mineral density, leading to fragility fractures. This article is an overview of osteoporosis, osteomalacia and fragility fractures and serves as an introductory article for this special issue on osteoporosis.

Methods: This is a short, comprehensive account of the given conditions with concepts and a review from the recent literature.

Sarcopenia and Osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis and sarcopenia are major health issues which are going to have a significant impact in an aging global population. Osteoporosis, which reduces bone density and increases fracture risk, and sarcopenia, which causes muscle loss and strength loss, have a complicated risk profile with consequences that go beyond bone and muscle health. This chapter illuminates the complex link between osteoporosis and sarcopenia, including overlapping causes, clinical consequences, and new treatments.

Trends of Publications on Single- and Double-Bundle ACL Reconstructions over the Last 20 Years: A Bibliometric Analysis of the PubMed Literature.

Purpose: To improve the clinical outcomes of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR), there have been attempts to reproduce anatomic reconstruction by modifying the single-bundle (SB) and double-bundle (DB) techniques. Although DB ACLR restores better rotational control compared to SB ACLR, it is still debatable whether there are higher clinical outcomes in favor of DB ACLR. We aimed to study the trends of publications on SB and DB ACLR techniques over the last 20 years.

Authorship in Scientific Manuscripts.

Authorship in scientific manuscripts indicates intellectual contribution of individuals to a research project and authors play a key role in the research and dissemination of results of a research project. It is important for authors to follow guidelines on authorship and submission of manuscripts and to agree on the order of authorship before beginning the project. Criteria for authorship, roles and responsibilities of authors, author metrics and misconduct of authors and their consequences are discussed in this editorial.

Management of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Aplasia for the Arthroscopy Surgeons: A Systematic Review.

Background: Anterior Cruciate Ligament Aplasia (ACLA) is a rare condition which can sometimes remain asymptomatic into adult life. Although the quoted incidence is 1.7 per 100,000 live births, it is higher due to these silent cases and can be encountered by the arthroscopy surgeon doing reconstructive procedure for the ACL.

Heterotopic Ossification in the Posterior Septum of the Knee Excised by an Arthroscopic Dual Portal Technique: A Case Report.

Case: We present a 15-year-old adolescent girl with acute onset knee pain and a lesion in the posterior septum (PS) believed to be an infectious process on initial investigations. This was excised successfully using a combination of transseptal and transnotch portals and proven to be a case of heterotopic ossification (HO) within the PS with an excellent outcome within 4 weeks. Our case is unique for the pathology that occurred and the technique of excision.

Proximal fibular osteotomy in the treatment of medial osteoarthritis of the knee - A narrative review of literature.

Proximal fibular osteotomy has been proposed as a simple and inexpensive alternative to high-tibial osteotomy and unicondylar knee arthroplasty and may be useful for low-income populations that cannot afford expensive treatment methods. However, there is no consensus existing regarding the mechanism by which it acts nor the outcome of this procedure. This study was performed to analyze the available evidence on the benefits of proximal fibular osteotomy and to understand the possible mechanisms in play.

Meniscal Injuries in the Olympic and Elite Athletes.

Introduction: Elite and Olympian athletes are often stretching the upper limits of normal physiology and biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system in their efforts to excel in their sport. For them to get back to their sport at the same level after injury, the management, repair techniques, and rehabilitation protocols should be robust to permit healing of tissues to allow supra-normal loading and performance. The knee and the meniscus are commonly injured in these sports.

Inverted Cyclops Lesion of the Knee Associated with a Supracondylar Femoral Nail: A Case Report.

While cyclops lesion, a fibrous nodule on the tibial side of the knee joint, is a well-known condition complicating anterior cruciate ligament, inverted cyclops lesion, a fibrous nodule on the femoral side of the knee, is a relatively less known condition. We report a case of inverted cyclops in a patient who presented with chronic knee stiffness eight years after supracondylar nailing of a femoral shaft fracture. There are only four reported cases of inverted cyclops in literature.
