Background: High fasting plasma glucose (HFPG) has been indicated as one of the important risk factors for cancers. This study aimed to estimate the disease burden of cancers attributable to HFPG in China from 1990 to 2021 and predict the burden until 2031.

Methods: The data of cancers attributable to HFPG were extracted from Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 project.

Article Synopsis
  • Branchio-oto-renal (BOR) spectrum disorders involve genetic changes in the EYA1 gene, making prenatal detection challenging due to varied symptoms.
  • A new pathogenic variant in the EYA1 gene was identified during a study of pregnant women who underwent fetal whole-exome sequencing, alongside a review of previous cases.
  • The findings highlight that subtle manifestations complicate prenatal ultrasounds, with particular emphasis on amniotic fluid and cardiac issues, and suggest that certain genetic markers could enhance early diagnosis of these disorders.

To understand the current status of anemia, iron deficiency, and iron-deficiency anemia among preschool children in China. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a multi-stage stratified sampling method to select 150 streets or townships from 10 Chinese provinces, autonomous regions, or municipalities (East: Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shandong, and Hainan; Central: Henan; West: Chongqing, Shaanxi, Guizhou, and Xinjiang; Northeast: Liaoning). From May 2022 to April 2023, a total of 21 470 children, including community-based children aged 0.

Objectives: Due to the government's liberalization of epidemic control, the current 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has started to spread widely within China. This study aimed to use the fetal heart quantification (fetal HQ) technique to assess the cardiac function and morphology of the fetuses of pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19 in the early stages of pregnancy.

Methods: Exactly 86 pregnant women diagnosed with COVID-19 infection in early pregnancy (COVID-19 group) and 90 healthy pregnant women (control group) who underwent fetal echocardiography were prospectively included in this study.

January 2024

Department of Neonatology, Children's Hospital of Fudan University, National Children's Medical Center, Shanghai 201102, China.

To describe the current status and trends in the outcomes and care practices of extremely preterm infants at 22-25 weeks' gestation age from the Chinese Neonatal Network (CHNN) from 2019 to 2021. This cross-sectional study used data from the CHNN cohort of very preterm infants. All 963 extremely preterm infants with gestational age between 22-25 weeks who were admitted to neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of the CHNN from 2019 to 2021 were included.

A novel missense variant in OTUD5 causes X-linked multiple congenital anomalies-neurodevelopmental syndrome.

Mol Genet Genomic Med

January 2024

Prenatal Diagnosis Center, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Henan Province, Zhengzhou, China.

Background: The OTUD5 gene encodes a deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB) of the OTU family. Variants of OTUD5 are associated with X-linked multiple congenital anomalies-neurodevelopmental syndrome (MCAND). The case described in this study expands the clinical and molecular spectrum of OTUD5.

Evaluation of the clinical utility of extended non-invasive prenatal testing in the detection of chromosomal aneuploidy and microdeletion/microduplication.

Eur J Med Res

August 2023

Prenatal Diagnosis Center, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Henan Province, No. 7 Front Kangfu Street, Er'qi District, Zhengzhou, 450052, China.

Background: With the development of whole-genome sequencing technology, non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) has been applied gradually to screen chromosomal microdeletions and microduplications that cannot be detected by traditional karyotyping. However, in NIPT, some false positives and false negatives occur. This study aimed to investigate the applicability of extended NIPT (NIPT-PLUS) in the detection of chromosomal aneuploidy and microdeletion/microduplication syndrome (MMS).

Component analysis and anti-pulmonary fibrosis effects of juice.

Food Funct

December 2022

West China School of Public Health and West China Fourth Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, Sichuan, China.

is a new variety of Tratt, and is rich in bioactive substances, but its role in pulmonary fibrosis has not been elucidated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential components of juice (RSJ) and its anti-pulmonary fibrosis effects. We employed HPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap-MS, HPLC, and ICP-MS to analyze the composition of RSJ, and carried out free radical scavenging assays to determine its antioxidant activity.

Sichuan University-University of Oxford Huaxi Joint Centre for Gastrointestinal Cancer, Frontiers Science Center for Disease-Related Molecular Network, State Key Laboratory of Biotherapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a progressive, fatal, and chronic lung disease, lacking a validated and effective therapy. Blueberry has demonstrated multiple pharmacological activities including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer. Therefore, the objective of this study was to investigate whether blueberry juice (BBJ) could ameliorate IPF.

Waardenburg syndrome (WS) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by varying combinations of sensorineural hearing loss and abnormal pigmentation involving the hair, skin and iris. WS is classified into 4 subtypes (WS1-WS4) based on additional symptoms. WS2 is characterized by the absence of additional symptoms and is mainly attributed to variants in the microphthalmia-associated transcription factor () gene.

Background: Therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) is an effective means of treating systemic lupus erythematosus in children and is safe for most pediatric patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, but severe complications such as toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) may occur, which is a life-threatening condition.

Methods: In this study, three systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) children developed toxic epidermal necrolysis after TPE. We analyzed their medical history, clinical manifestations, SLEDAI scores, and immunological characteristics, compared to 117 cases of SLE patients without TEN after TPE, trying to find the possible risk factors.
