Cervical cancer is one of the most common gynecologic malignancies worldwide. 5-Fluorouracil (5-Fu) is a widely used anticancer drug for various cancers, but the development of 5-Fu resistance poses a challenge in treating cervical cancer patients. This study examined the roles and molecular mechanisms of LncRNA-FGD5-AS1 in 5-Fu resistant cervical cancer cells through in vitro and in vivo experiments.

Organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT)-based sensors that use light-sensitive semiconductor materials as the gate have recently garnered increasing interest in various fields ranging from biological analysis to environmental monitoring. However, so far, the working principle and representative applications of OPECT sensors have not been discussed and reviewed systematically. In this review, we aim to present a comprehensive overview of the working principle and sensing mechanisms of OPECT-based sensors and various inorganic and organic photoactive gate materials used in OPECTs, with a focus on the representative applications and recent progress of these sensors in the fields of enzyme sensing, immunoassays, and nucleic acid-based sensing.

Background: Several observational studies have suggested that type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a risk factor for skin cancer, and antidiabetic drugs may reduce skin cancer risk. Nevertheless, the findings remain ambiguous. This Mendelian randomization (MR) study aimed to investigate the causal association of T2D with skin cancer and evaluate the potential impact of antidiabetic drug targets on skin cancer.

Aim: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), a common pregnancy complication characterized by glucose intolerance, is increasingly recognized as a risk factor for Neonatal Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS). This study aimed to systematically review and quantify the association between GDM and NRDS.
Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science from their inception through July 30, 2024, to identify relevant studies.

Prior research into the association between fine particulate matter (PM) exposure and the risk for fetal congenital heart defect (CHD) has yielded inconclusive and conflicting results. More epidemiologic evidence from different regions is necessary. A case-control study was conducted with 360 CHD cases and 3600 healthy newborns.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common hereditary kidney disease, characterized by the progressive formation of multiple cysts in both kidneys, destruction of the renal structure, changes in renal function and eventually leading to end-stage renal failure and renal transplantation. In our study, Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was used to identify the responsible mutation of ADPKD in two unrelated Chinese PKD families. The WES revealed three variants in the gene, c.

Objective: Understanding the impact of early childhood physical growth on visual development is crucial, as this period marks a critical phase for foundational physical and ocular maturation. The aim of the current study was to investigate the associations between the anthropometric indicators of height, weight, and body mass index (BMI), as well as visual acuity, refraction, and ocular biometrics, in Chinese preschool children.
Methods: This cross-sectional study consisted of 1,477 Chinese 3- to 6-year-old preschool children from nine kindergartens in Tongzhou District, Beijing.

Background: Neuropathic pain (NPP) is a multifaceted pain syndrome that occurs as a consequence of physical injury or underlying diseases, with an incidence rate of 7%-10%, NPP poses a significant clinical challenge as current treatment options are ineffective. The accumulation of apoptotic cells and neuroinflammation play crucial roles in the pathological mechanisms of NPP. Here, we aim to investigate strategies for effectively clearing apoptotic cells and provide therapeutic interventions for NPP.

Protein arginine methyltransferases (PRMTs) play an essential role in the regulation of ferroptosis, a form of programmed cell death characterized by abnormal iron ion metabolism, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage. Through methylation, PRMTs modify specific proteins, thereby altering their activity, localizations, or interactions with other molecules to control the ferroptosis process. This study was conducted to provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship between PRMTs and ferroptosis, with a focus on the mechanisms by which PRMTs regulate ferroptosis and their effect on this cell death pathway.

Accumulating evidences have proved Arenobufagin (ArBu) exhibited cytotoxic effects to multiple types of cancer. However, in glwioblastoma (GBM), which is easy to develop resistance to classic chemotherapy reagent, the therapeutic effects of ArBu have not been explored. In the current study, we found that GBM cells were sensitive to ArBu treatment and ArBu induced cell death both in a dose-dependent and a time-dependent manner.

Background: Nocardiosis is a rare infectious disease, which is frequently underdiagnosed because of the distinct bacterial shape of the causative agent and its developmental history. The morphological analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid can facilitate the detection of pathogenic bacteria by observing cellular-bacterial interactions.
Case Presentation: An immunocompetent 67-year-old male patient of Asian ethnicity developed a cough without apparent cause 20 days earlier.
