Small

December 2024

School of Chemical Sciences and Advanced Materials Research Centre, Indian Institute of Technology Mandi, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, 175005, India.

Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) are benchmark materials for iodine sorption, but their use has largely been confined to crystalline bulk forms. In this state, COFs face diffusion limitations leading to slow sorption kinetics. To address this, a series of [2 + 3] imine-linked COFs with varying particle sizes and morphologies (mesospheres, nanoflowers, and bulk) is synthesized.

Moisture-sensitive fluorescent emitters are a class of smart materials that can change their emission behavior upon exposure to water. In this study, we have synthesized two highly fluorescent organic emitters, 4BPy-PTA and 2BPy-PTA, and showed how moisture sensitivity can be enhanced by molecular design modification. Owing to the different nitrogen atom positions in the acceptor units, the emitters show different degrees of moisture sensitivity.

The discovery of polar vortices and skyrmions in ferroelectric-dielectric superlattices [such as (PbTiO)/(SrTiO)] has ushered in an era of novel dipolar topologies and corresponding emergent phenomena. The key to creating such emergent features has generally been considered to be related to counterpoising strongly polar and non-polar materials thus creating the appropriate boundary conditions. This limits the utility these materials can have, however, by rendering (effectively) half of the structure unresponsive to applied stimuli.

Anisotropic Ferroelectricity in Polar Vortices.

Adv Mater

November 2024

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, CA, 94720, USA.

The exotic polarization configurations of topologically protected dipolar textures have opened new avenues for realizing novel phenomena absent in traditional ferroelectric systems. While multiple recent studies have revealed a diverse array of emergent properties in such polar topologies, the details of their atomic and mesoscale structures remain incomplete. Through atomic- and meso-scale imaging techniques, the emergence of a macroscopic ferroelectric polarization along both principal axes of the vortex lattice while performing phase-field modeling to probe the atomic scale origins of these distinct polarization components is demonstrated.

We report for the first time the successful acquisition of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data using an unconventional same-metal PCB-based three-electrode system. Conventional three-electrode systems primarily require expensive and bulky electrodes, and a high volume of analytes to conduct electrochemical impedance spectroscopy studies. The miniaturized PCB-based three-electrode system used in this work requires only trace amounts of analytes in the order of 10-20 μL owing to the design of the electrode sensor.

Hyperfluorescence, also known as thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) sensitized fluorescence, is known as a next-generation efficient and innovative process for high-performance organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). High external quantum efficiency (EQE) and good color purity are crucial parameters for display applications. Hyperfluorescent OLEDs (HF-OLEDs) take the lead in this respect as they utilize the advantages of both TADF emitters and fluorescent dopants, realizing high EQE with color saturation and long-term stability.
