Background: Glioblastoma, the predominant primary tumor among all central nervous systems, accounts for around 80% of cases. Prognosis in neuro-oncology involves assessing the disease's progression in different individuals, considering the time between the initial pathological diagnosis and the time until the disease worsens. A noninvasive therapeutic approach called radiomic features (RFs), which involves the application of artificial intelligence in MRI, has been developed to address this issue.

Background: Heart failure complicated with iron deficiency is associated with impaired functional capacity, poor quality of life, increased hospitalization, and mortality. This systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the effect of oral and intravenous iron therapy on functional capacity, hospitalization risk, and mortality risk in patients with chronic heart failure and iron-deficiency anemia.

Methods: Search for published scientific articles using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting, Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) method conducted on Cochrane Library, PubMed Central, and Medline databases published in the last 20 years.

The predictors of coronary slow flow in patients undergoing coronary angiography.

Egypt Heart J

August 2024

Faculty of Medicine, Mataram University, FK UNRAM, Jl. Pendidikan, No. 37, Mataram, NTB, Indonesia.

Background: A new challenge in coronary artery disease treatment has emerged, where specific populations exhibit ischemic symptoms without any obstruction in the epicardial coronary artery. Instead, they exhibit slow coronary contrast flow, referred to as coronary slow flow (CSF). This study aims to identify several predictors of CSF.

Objective: To investigate the effects of statin monotherapy and statin-ezetimibe combination therapy on coronary plaque regression in acute coronary syndrome patients.

Methods: The systematic review was conducted from July to September 2022 and comprised search on PubMed, ScienceDirect and Cochrane databases to identify studies from January 2010 to July 2022 assessing the effects of statin-ezetimibe combination therapy versus statin monotherapy on coronary plaque regression in patients with acute coronary syndrome. The outcomes of interest were total atheroma volume, plaque volume, and percent atheroma volume assessed by intravascular ultrasound.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a global health problem with the potential to cause dangerous neurological problems. Based on histopathological findings in Sprague Dawley (SD) rats with TBI in the acute phase, the study seeks to discover the effect of , cinnamon, and spirulina as neuroprotective.

Methods: We conducted an experimental study with 30 SD rats randomly divided into three groups.

Background: MLC901 is a phytopharmaceutical comprising significant compounds that can induce microenvironments conducive to the proliferation and specialization of neural cell progenitors. This study investigates the impact of administering MLC901, reducing the expression of NG2 and caspase-3 and increasing IL-10 levels, as well as histopathological and motor function, after severe spinal cord injury (SCI) in the chronic phase.

Methods: The study employed a randomized post-test-only control group design conducted between February and April 2023 at the Integrated Biomedical Laboratory.

Background: This review aims to examine the impact of trimetazidine on skeletal muscle function in patients suffering from peripheral artery disease (PAD).

Methods: We searched for studies, both experimental and observational research, concerning the comparison of trimetazidine administration to placebo/standard of care in patients with PAD in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane. Meta-analyses of the included studies were performed using Review Manager v5.

Introduction: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a significant and transforming event, with an estimated annual incidence of 40 cases per million individuals in North America. Considering the significance of accurate diagnosis and effective therapy in managing SCI, Machine Learning (ML) and Robot-Assisted Gait Training (RAGT) technologies hold promise for enhancing optimal practices and elevating the quality of care. This study aims to determine the impact of the ML and RAGT techniques employed on the outcome results of SCI.

Surgical techniques for non-missile penetrating brain injuries (PBI) are challenging because they require good preoperative planning. Generally, extraction is performed ipsilaterally at the entry site. In certain cases, the extraction can be performed contralaterally through the inner end of the foreign body; however, this requires special consideration.

Background: Aortic aneurysm enlargement over time causes rupture, which frequently results in death. The family of proteases known as matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) is assumed to be proteolytic activity involved in the growth of aortic aneurysms. Statins are pleiotropic lipid-lowering medications with anti-inflammatory action.

Exploratory study of ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation and age of onset of bipolar disorder.

Int J Bipolar Disord

June 2023

Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • Sunlight helps our skin make vitamin D through UVB radiation, but some places don't get enough UVB in winter, which can affect brain health.
  • A study looked at 6,972 people with bipolar I disorder from over 70 countries to see if not getting enough UVB was related to when they first had symptoms.
  • The results suggested that people in areas with less UVB tended to show symptoms of bipolar disorder about 1.66 years earlier, but more research is needed to understand the role of vitamin D and UVB in this condition.

Modification of palm fiber with chitosan-AESO blend coating.

Int J Biol Macromol

July 2023

Natural Composites Research Group Lab, Department of Materials and Production Engineering, The Sirindhorn International Thai-German Graduate School of Engineering (TGGS), King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB), Bangkok 10800, Thailand.

Natural fibers are available as an essential substitute for synthetic fiber in many applications. However, the sensitivity of Chinese Windmill Palm or Trachycarpus Fortune Fiber (TFF) to water causes low interfacial bonding between the matrix and the fiber and at the end reduces the mechanical properties of the composite product. Alkaline treatment improves mechanical properties and does not affect water absorption.

Intraparenchymal cerebellar capillary hemangioma in a 32-year-old man: a case report.

Front Surg

May 2023

Department of Anatomical Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital, Universitas Udayana, Denpasar, Indonesia.

The authors present an unusual case of a 32-year-old adult male with a capillary hemangioma, which developed within the left cerebellar parenchyma. The histopathological examination reveals a mass mostly formed by the proliferation of capillaries, lined by a layer of flat-plump endothelial cells, some branching and dilating large capillaries, forming a lobulated structure separated by fibrocollagenous connective tissue. Immunohistochemistry examination with CD31 and S100 was positive on the endothelial and stromal cells, respectively, and negative S100 on the endothelial cells.

Neuropathic pain is a major problem whose pathogenesis is not known yet, which makes it difficult to treat. Effective treatment of neuropathic pain usually uses multimodal therapy that takes a long time but causes major health problems, which are commonly found in women over 50 years of age and are generally caused by lumbar radiculopathy due to lumbar spinal stenosis. The narrowing of the spinal canal resembles an ischemic condition that can increase the expression of VEGF in the dorsal root ganglion and then result in shortened walking distance (intermittent claudication).
