Temperature fluctuations over long time scales (≳ 1 h) are an insidious problem for precision measurements. In optical laboratories, the primary effect of temperature fluctuations is drifts in optical circuits over spatial scales of a few meters and temporal scales extending beyond a few minutes. We present a lab-scale environment temperature control system approaching 10 mK-level temperature instability across a lab for integration times above an hour and extending to a day.

Background: Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) is reported by 45% of patients with cancer. Significant gaps in knowledge remain regarding the mechanisms that underlie CRCI.
Objectives: Using a data-driven approach, the study purpose was to evaluate for perturbed pathways associated with membership in the High versus the Low CRCI profiles.

Ferroelectric (FE) materials are key to advancing electronic devices owing to their non-volatile properties, rapid state-switching abilities, and low-energy consumption. FE-based devices are used in logic circuits, memory-storage devices, sensors, and in-memory computing. However, the primary challenge in advancing the practical applications of FE-based memory is its reliability.

Background: Risk Analysis Index (RAI) has been increasingly used to assess surgical frailty in various procedures, but its effectiveness in predicting mortality or in-patient hospital outcomes for spine surgery in metastatic disease remains unclear. The aim of this study was to compare the predictive values of the revised RAI (RAI-rev), the modified frailty index-5 (mFI-5), and advanced age for extended length of stay, 30-day readmission, complications, and mortality among patients undergoing spine surgery for metastatic spinal tumors.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed using the 2012-2022 ACS NSQIP database to identify adult patients who underwent spinal surgery for metastatic spinal pathologies.

Introduction: Anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) therapy may improve insulin sensitivity, and its impact during pregnancy remains unclear. We aimed to assess the risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) associated with anti-TNF treatment among pregnant women with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Methods: This nationwide cohort study included patients with IBD in Korea from 2010 to 2021.

Unlabelled: The mechanism used by polyomavirus and other viral SF3 helicases to unwind DNA at replication forks remains unknown. Using AlphaFold2, we have determined the structure of a representative SF3 helicase, the SV40 T-antigen (T-ag). This model has been analyzed in terms of the features of T-ag required for helicase activity, particularly the proximity of the T-ag origin binding domain (OBD) to the replication fork and the distribution of basic residues on the surface of the OBD that are known to play roles in DNA unwinding.

Background: Greater trochanteric pain syndrome (GTPS) affects 17.6% of adults aged 50 to 79 years, particularly women. While exercise therapy and corticosteroid injections (CSIs) are common treatments, their limitations include inadequate pain control and potential tendon weakening.

Importance: Numerous studies show that early palliative care improves quality of life and other key outcomes in patients with advanced cancer and their caregivers, although most lack access to this evidence-based model of care.
Objective: To evaluate whether delivering early palliative care via secure video vs in-person visits has an equivalent effect on quality of life in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Design, Setting, And Participants: Randomized, multisite, comparative effectiveness trial from June 14, 2018, to May 4, 2023, at 22 US cancer centers among 1250 patients within 12 weeks of diagnosis of advanced NSCLC and 548 caregivers.

There is an increasing appreciation for the role of cell surface glycans in modulating interactions with extracellular ligands and participating in intercellular communication. We recently reported the existence of sialoglycoRNAs, where mammalian small RNAs are covalently linked to N-glycans through the modified base acpU and trafficked to the cell surface. However, little is currently known about the role for O-glycosylation, another major class of carbohydrate polymer modifications.

Objective: To examine the hepatic effectiveness of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) through a head-to-head comparison with glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RA) or thiazolidinediones (TZD) in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
Design: This population-based cohort study was conducted using a nationwide healthcare claims database (2014-2022) of Korea. We included individuals with MASLD (aged ≥40 years) who initiated SGLT-2i or comparator drugs (GLP-1RA or TZD).

We systematically reviewed observational and Mendelian randomization (MR) articles that evaluated the association between obesity and 17 gastrointestinal (GI) diseases to integrate causal and observational evidence. A total of 594 observational studies from 26 systematic reviews and meta-analyses and nine MR articles were included. For every 5 kg/m increase in body mass index (BMI), there was an increased risk of GI diseases ranging from 2% for rectal cancer (relative risk [RR]: 1.

Study Objectives: This study aimed to (1) improve sleep staging accuracy through transfer learning (TL), to achieve or exceed human inter-expert agreement and (2) introduce a scorability model to assess the quality and trustworthiness of automated sleep staging.
Methods: A deep neural network (base model) was trained on a large multi-site polysomnography (PSG) dataset from the United States. TL was used to calibrate the model to a reduced montage and limited samples from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES) dataset.

Background: Fertility preservation and subsequent third-party reproduction represents a principal pathway by which gay and bisexual cisgender men may have biologically related children. Previous studies of a similar design have commented on the availability of fertility services for sexually and gender diverse communities, but none have investigated access to the aforementioned services for this specific population.
Objectives: To assess the availability of fertility preservation and third-party reproduction services for gay and bisexual cisgender men across US fertility clinics and sperm banks.

Glycine is an obligatory co-agonist at excitatory NMDA receptors in the brain, especially in the dentate gyrus, which has been postulated to be crucial for the development of psychotic associations and memories with psychotic content. Drugs modulating glycine levels are in clinical development for improving cognition in schizophrenia. However, the functional relevance of the regulation of glycine metabolism by endogenous enzymes is unclear.
