Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is highly prevalent among individuals with heart failure (HF), impacting 40-70% of patients and serving as a significant prognostic indicator. Linked with oxidative metabolism and myocardial cell damage, IDA exacerbates HF symptoms, including reduced exercise capacity, diminished quality of life, and heightened cardiovascular morbidity. This review explores the diagnosis, treatment, clinical outcomes, prognostic indicators, and forthcoming challenges associated with IDA in HF patients.

Purpose: Lay midwives attend most births at home in Guatemala facing many challenges with limited resources. Current research demonstrates that acupressure can reduce preterm contractions and encourage post-term labor. Sharing acupressure techniques with lay midwives could improve birth outcomes in Guatemala.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated predominantly during cellular respiration and play a significant role in signaling within the cell and between cells. However, excessive accumulation of ROS can lead to cellular dysfunction, disease progression, and apoptosis that can lead to organ dysfunction. To overcome the short half-life of ROS and the relatively small amount produced, various imaging methods have been developed, using both endogenous and exogenous means to monitor ROS in disease settings.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) presents with resistance phenotypes to certain therapies, such as cisplatin, often requiring higher dosing, with associated acquired tumor resistance, renal toxicity, and variable patient responses. A self-emulsifying drug delivery (SEDD) formulation approach was proposed to overcome the limitations of cisplatin in TNBC, focusing on improving intracellular cisplatin and control siRNA uptake as a proof-of-principle of dual drug delivery. Four SEDD formulations were prepared and optimized for cisplatin (o/w) emulsion and FITC-siRNA (w/o) emulsion using pseudo-ternary phase diagrams to facilitate the formation of water-in-oil-water (w/o/w) emulsions.

Purpose: The objective of this study was to characterize the clinical characteristics and factors predictive of biochemical remission in patients with symptomatic acromegaly undergoing transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) at an academic tertiary care center, as defined by the 2022 Acromegaly Consensus Conference guidelines.
Methods: In this single institution, longitudinal, retrospective study, a large cohort of 158 patients with a preoperative diagnosis of acromegaly undergoing surgery at a large, academic, tertiary care center were examined. We excluded 38 patients as IGF-1 testing was performed less than 12 weeks postoperatively.

Background: There are documented differences in Breast cancer (BrCA) presentations and outcomes between Black and White patients. In addition to molecular factors, socioeconomic, racial, and clinical factors result in disparities in outcomes for women in the United States. Using machine learning and unsupervised biclustering methods within a multiomics framework, here we sought to shed light on the biological and clinical underpinnings of observed differences between Black and White BrCA patients.

Like the acute care environment, long-term care (LTC) settings struggle to recruit and retain nursing staff. As the population ages, there are implications for administrators to create innovative approaches to attract and retain nurses to work in LTC. This article explores the basic tenets that foster and hinder retention in this important care setting.

Background: As China is one of the countries with the highest recorded cases of Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases (IMIDs), these diseases have also emerged as a serious public health concern. Biosimilars, potentially lower-cost versions of biologics, may improve access to more affordable yet comparably effective treatments. Encouragingly, China launched its abbreviated biosimilar pathway in 2015, and since then, a large number of biosimilars have been approved.

Purpose: Timely access to clinical genetics consultations remains a barrier to timely genomic medicine services, which new service delivery models might help address.
Methods: We implemented a genetics electronic consultation (eConsult) service staffed by a primary care physician (PCP) champion, supervised by genetics specialists. Chart reviews from July 2018 to January 2022 examined categories of questions received, e-consultant's recommendations, and outcomes of any conventional genetics referrals.

Background: Middle meningeal artery embolization (MMAE) is an established treatment option for chronic subdural hematoma. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to establish estimates of the pooled incidence for complications following MMAE.
Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane were searched for studies reporting complications following MMAE through January 2023.

Introduction: AI is big and moving fast into healthcare, creating opportunities and risks. However, current approaches to governance focus on high-level principles rather than tailored recommendations for specific domains like consumer health. This gap risks unintended consequences from generic guidelines misapplied across contexts and from providing answers before agreeing on the questions.

Pseudoaneurysms of the superior gluteal artery (SGA) are exceedingly rare, especially following minor trauma. This case report presents a 51-year-old male with a history of aortic valve replacement and daily antiplatelet therapy who developed a pseudoaneurysm of the SGA following a ground-level fall. Due to its subclinical presentation, the patient was initially diagnosed with a hematoma of the right gluteus, which failed to resolve and became symptomatic after six months.

The continuity of public transportation was necessary during the COVID-19 pandemic so that essential workers could report for duty. Therefore, it is important to consider COVID-19's impact on transit workers themselves. We described COVID-19 incidence rates over time in New York City (NYC) transit workers and the NYC general population during March-May, 2020.

Objectives: EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor (EGFR-TKI) therapies such as erlotinib and gefitinib are approved for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the high incidence of acquired resistance to these EGFR-TKIs may preclude their effectiveness. Piperlongumine (PPL), an extract from the long pepper fruit (), has been shown to possess anticancer properties.

Hypoglycemia will inevitably occur. Being prepared and implementing a treatment plan should help to restore euglycemia and resolve hypoglycemia symptoms. The plan comprises fast-acting carbohydrates and, importantly, ready-to-use glucagon for self-administration when carbohydrates are not working or for third-party administration when the affected person is unwilling or unable to swallow (e.
