Urolithin B (UB), a bioactive metabolite of ellagic acid, has demonstrated promising anticancer effects in various cancer models. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of UB on the growth, angiogenesis, and metastasis of BC cells using both in vivo and in vitro approaches.

Pro-renin Receptor (PRR) as a Target to Reduce Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Post Liver Transplantation.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the main causes of chronic liver disorders following liver transplantation. The prorenin receptor (PRR) plays a role in glucose and lipid metabolism, and the hepatic dysregulation of PRR is associated with the upregulation of several molecular pathways, such as the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) that promotes hepatic lipogenesis and leads to lipid accumulation in hepatocytes by upregulation of lipogenic genes. PRR inhibition leads to a reduction in the hepatic expression of sortilin-1 and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) levels and down-regulation of pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH) and acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and reduces fatty acids synthesis in hepatocytes.

Design, synthesis, biological evaluation and multi spectroscopic studies of novel 2-styrylquinoline-carboxamide derivatives as potential DNA intercalating anticancer agents.

In this study, novel 2-styrylquinoline derivatives possessing a planar aromatic system and a flexible side chain with an amino substituent were designed and synthesized as DNA-intercalating antitumor agents. The cytotoxic activity of the synthesized compounds was evaluated against four cancer cell lines including MCF-7 (breast cancer cells), A549 (lung epithelial cancer cells), HCT116 (colon cancer cells) and normal cell line L929 (mouse fibroblast cell line). The results displayed that the anti-cancer activity of the target quinolines is sensitive to the lipophilic nature of the C-6 and C-7 quinoline substituents.

Cerebrovascular accident and essential and toxic metals: cluster analysis and principal component analysis.

Background: Cerebrovascular accidents are known as a great cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although there are known risk factors for ischemic stroke, the cases that cannot be justified with these risk factors are increasing. Toxic metals as a potential risk factor for other diseases in humans are assessed in this study in the CVA group and compared to controls.

Modeling synergy and individual effects of X-ray induced photodynamic therapy components.

X-ray induced photodynamic therapy (XPDT) utilizes self-lighting nanoparticles to combine the benefits of radiotherapy and photodynamic therapy. These nanomaterials transform X-ray to visible light that can be absorbed by nearby photosensitizers and in the presence of surrounding oxygen molecules generates reactive oxygen species, which are very toxic to the cells. Despite many studies conducted on modelling XPDT, little focused on the contribution of each component as well as their synergy effects.

Removal of microplastics by algal biomass from aqueous solutions: performance, optimization, and modeling.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging pollutants that pose significant risks to ecosystems due to their inherent toxicity, capacity to accumulate various pollutants, and potential for synergistic impacts. Given these concerns, the focus of this research is on the critical need for effective MPs removal from aquatic environments. Using BBD method, this study aimed to identify the key parameters affecting the removal of MPs by algal biomass from aqueous solutions.

Effect of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation on mortality rate of aluminum phosphate poisoning: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Aluminum phosphate (ALP) poisoning has a high mortality rate (MR) secondary to cardiogenic shock. Recently, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) showed a successful result in this issue. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the MR of patients with ALP poisoning who underwent ECMO versus those with conventional treatment.

The efficacy of curcumin-piperine supplementation in patients with nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy: An optical coherence tomography angiography-based randomized controlled trial.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the complications of diabetes. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of curcumin-piperine on laboratory factors and macular vascular in DR.

Materials And Methods: The present study was a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, parallel-arm clinical trial that was conducted on 60 patients with DR aged 30-65 years.

Objectives: This study evaluated the necessity of a ventilation scan in patients suspected of PE with a history of COVID-19 infection.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of patients with PCR-confirmed COVID-19 and suspected PE at a tertiary care hospital in 2020. They underwent ventilation/perfusion (V/Q) scintigraphy using single-photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT) and CT scans with or without contrast.

Breast cancer lymphoscintigraphy is a crucial tool in pre-operative assessment, typically revealing sentinel lymph node drainage patterns within axillary and extra-axillary regions. However, rare cases challenge conventional understanding. We report a 67-year-old woman with breast cancer, where lymphoscintigraphy revealed focal uptake within the falciform ligament of the liver, an exceedingly rare phenomenon.

Background: Using neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBA) in pediatric induction protocol is a challenging matter. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to find a safer way for anesthesia in children. We compared the effects of dexmedetomidine with atracurium on intubation conditions in children aged 6-12 years under general anesthesia.

Curcumin-based nanofibers: A promising approach for cancer therapy.

Nanofibers are among the promising platforms for efficient delivery of drugs (both hydrophilic and hydrophobic) through harnessing polymers with different natures as their base. Hydrophobic low-solubility agents such as curcumin could be incorporated in various types of electrospun nanofibers for different aims in drug delivery, such as enhancing its solubility, making this agent sustained release with improved pharmacological efficacy. Through using this nanoplatform, curcumin may become more bioavailable and more efficcious in the field of cancer therapy as well as tissue engineering and wound healing for local delivery of this anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent.

MRI-derived radiomics and end-to-end deep learning models for predicting glioma ATRX status: a systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies.

We aimed to systematically review and meta-analyze the predictive value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-derived radiomics/end-to-end deep learning (DL) models in predicting glioma alpha thalassemia/mental retardation syndrome X-linked (ATRX) status. We conducted a comprehensive search across four major databases-Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Embase. All the studies that assessed the performance of radiomics and/or end-to-end DL models for predicting glioma ATRX status were included.

Intracranial Hypertension and Optic Neuritis in Two Unrelated Seronegative Cases.

Intracranial Hypertension (ICHT) is identified as the elevation of Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) pressure in patients devoid of any underlying causes. Optic Neuritis (ON) is not typically seen as a complication of ICHT, and patients diagnosed with concurrent manifestation of both these disorders usually have some identifiable underlying cause. In this report, we highlight the clinical and para-clinical findings in two unrelated children presenting with high CSF opening pressures and Optic neuritis in the absence of any identifiable neurological or immunological cause.

Trends in the Epidemiology of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism in Patients Undergoing Surgery.

Objective This study aims to utilize the TriNetX database, a comprehensive global network, to improve our understanding of the frequency, demographic factors, and related comorbidities of surgical patients who develop venous thromboembolism (VTEs) events. Methods The global collaborative network in TriNetX was queried for all cases from January 1, 2017, through December 31, 2023. International Classification for Disease (ICD) diagnosis codes were used to define patient cohorts with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the upper or lower extremity or pulmonary embolism (PE).
