Chrysin Effect Against Gastric Cancer: Focus on its Molecular Mechanisms.

Gastric cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers in the world. Various therapeutic modalities have been used for its treatment, but all exhibit severe side effects, establishing the need for novel approaches. Chrysin is a phytomedicine compound belonging to the flavonoid group.

Diabetes mellitus can cause cardiomyopathy disorders by inducing the aging pathway.

Objectives: In this study, cardiovascular disorders were examined with a focus on the aging pathway and autophagy involvement in cardiac samples isolated from male rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Materials And Methods: In the present study, male Wistar rats became diabetic with the help of a high-fat diet. Gene and protein expression levels (to evaluate Tumor Necrosis Factor-α, TNF-α) were measured by the ELISA method.

Efficacy of corneal tomography parameters and biomechanical characteristic in keratoconus detection.

Aim: To determine the efficacy of corneal thickness parameters and corneal biomechanical properties (CBPs) in discriminating between normal and keratoconus eyes.

Method: After performing a comprehensive ophthalmic examination, 50 mild to moderate keratoconus and 50 age and sex matched myopic astigmatism eyes were prospectively included in the study. The corneal topographic maps and CBP were obtained by Pentacam and Ocular response analyser, respectively.

Cabergoline effect on blood sugar in type 2 diabetic patients with oral agent failure.

The aim of this study was the evaluation of short-term effect of cabergoline in poorly controlled diabetic patients with oral agent failure who refused insulin therapy.

Methods: This study was performed in 17 overweight women and men with type 2 diabetes with persistent hyperglycemia in spite of treatment with maximum dose of sulfonylurea, metformin and pioglitazone.

Pediatric clear cell sarcoma of the kidney with atriocaval thrombus.

Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is an uncommon neoplasm that accounts for almost 3 % of pediatric renal tumors. Cavoatrial tumor thrombosis is very rare and because of poor response to chemotherapy, invasive surgical interventions such as open heart surgery may be indicated. A 6-year-old girl with CCSK of right kidney was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Metformin decreases thyrotropin in overweight women with polycystic ovarian syndrome and hypothyroidism.

Objective: To assess the effect of metformin administration on thyroid function in overweight women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

Methods: Twenty-seven overweight women with PCOS and hypothyroidism were selected. Fifteen patients (group I) were treated with metformin 1500 mg/day for 6 months and 12 patients (group II) with placebo.

P63 and Ki-67 expression in trophoblastic disease and spontaneous abortion.

Background: Despite well-described histopathologic criteria, the distinction of spontaneous abortion from hydatidiform mole and complete hydatidiform mole from partial hydatidiform mole remains a problem because of interobserver and intraobserver variability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of two immunohistochemical markers in the differential diagnosis of subgroups of lesions of villous trophoblasts and spontaneous abortions.

Methods: Immunohistochemistry with the P63 and Ki-67 antibody was performed in formalin-fixed paraffinembedded samples of non hydropic abortion (n = 14), partial hydatidiform mole (n = 12), complete hydatidiform mole (n = 12) and choriocarcinoma (n = 12).
