Mortality and morbidity of newborns with sepsis can be improved by early and accurate diagnosis and targeted therapy. To evaluate the early molecular events associated with inflammation and infection, we evaluated markers of endothelial activation and injury and circulating plasma miRNAs in preterm newborns with sepsis. The study group consisted of newborns with gestational age ≤ 32 weeks, with culture-positive early-onset neonatal sepsis (sepsis group, N = 8), and as a control group, we enrolled newborns without sepsis (control group, N = 12).

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a hypercoagulable state accompanied by the presence of heterogeneous antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL), which nonspecifically affect hemostasis by the presence of lupus anticoagulans (LA), anticardiolipin antibodies (aCL), antibodies against β2-glycoprotein-I (anti-β2GPI), but also non-criteria antibodies such as antibodies against β2-glycoprotein-I domain I (anti-DI), anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin (anti-PS/PT), anti-annexin V, and many others. The main target of the antibodies is the activated protein C (APC) system, the elimination of which can manifest itself as a thrombotic complication. The aim of this study was to determine the thrombogenicity of antibodies using a modified protein C-activated thrombin generation assay (TGA) on a group of 175 samples suspected of APS.

Introduction: There are today two models of transporting patients with acute ischaemic stroke because of large artery occlusion (AIS-LVO): mothership (MS) and drip-and-ship (DS). Our aim was to evaluate our ongoing transport strategy (OT), which is an MS/DS hybrid. In our OT, the patient is transported directly to the CT of the Primary Stroke Centre (PSC), where intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) is administered.

Background The benefit of intravenous thrombolysis is time dependent. It remains unclear, however, whether dramatic shortening of door-to-needle time (DNT) among different types of hospitals nationwide does not compromise safety and still improves outcome. Methods and Results Multifaceted intervention to shorten DNT was introduced at a national level, and prospectively collected data from a registry between 2004 and 2019 were analyzed.

Human toxocariasis is a helminthozoonosis caused by the migration of species larvae through an organism. The infection in humans is transmitted either by direct ingestion of the eggs of the parasite, or by consuming undercooked meat infested with larvae. This parasitosis can be found worldwide, but there are significant differences in seroprevalence in different areas, depending mainly on hot climate conditions and on low social status.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a hypercoagulation condition associated with the incidence of heterogenic antiphospholipid antibodies (aPLs), which non-specifically affect hemostasis processes. APS is clinically manifested by recurrent arterial and venous thromboses and reproduction losses. The aPL antibodies, which may induce clinical manifestations of APS, include criteria antibodies anti-cardiolipin, anti-β2-glycoprotein-I, and lupus anticoagulant, but also non-criteria antibodies, for example anti-β2-glycoprotein-I domain I, anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin, anti-annexin V, and many others.

Brain ischemia after central nervous system (CNS) bleeding significantly influences the final outcome of patients. Catalytic activities of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to detect brain ischemia were determined in this study. The principal aim of our study was to compare the dynamics of AST in 1956 CSF samples collected from 215 patients within a 3-week period after CNS hemorrhage.
