A number of studies have shown an association between therapist skills (particularly insight skills) and the working alliance, but few studies have examined the directionality of this relationship. In addition, studies have used either the client or therapist report of the working alliance rather than a perspective. Thus, we examined whether (a) dyadic insight skills are indirectly related to client outcome through the working alliance and (b) the dyadic working alliance is indirectly related to client outcome through insight skills.

The Association of Menopausal Age with Sex Hormones and Anthropometric Measures Among Postmenopausal Women in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis Study.

We investigated associations of menopausal age category with body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, and waist-height ratio. We also explored the moderating effect of anthropometric measures on associations of menopausal age category with prespecified sex hormones: estradiol, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), sex hormone-binding globulin, bioavailable testosterone, and total testosterone-estradiol (T/E) ratio. In this cross-sectional study, we included 2,436 postmenopausal women from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis who had menopausal age, anthropometric, and sex hormone data at baseline.

Ligand Reorganization for End-Point Binding Free Energy Calculations: Identifying Preferred Poses of Fentanyls in the μ Opioid Receptor.

We have developed a method that uses energy landscapes of unbound and bound ligands to compute reorganization free energies for end-point binding free-energy calculations. The method is applied to our previous simulations of fentanyl derivatives bound to the μ opioid receptor in different orientations. Whereas the mean interaction energy provides an ambiguous ranking of binding poses, interaction entropy and ligand reorganization strongly penalize geometric decoys such that native poses observed in CryoEM structures are best ranked.

DNA methyltransferase and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase inhibitors (DNMTis, PARPis) induce a stimulator of interferon genes (STING)-dependent pathogen mimicry response (PMR) in ovarian and other cancers. Here, we showed that combining DNMTis and PARPis upregulates expression of the nucleic-acid sensor NFX1-type zinc finger-containing 1 protein (ZNFX1). ZNFX1 mediated induction of PMR in mitochondria, serving as a gateway for STING-dependent interferon/inflammasome signaling.

Loss of HNRNPK During Cell Senescence Linked to Reduced Production of CDC20.

Cellular senescence is a complex biological response to sublethal damage. The RNA-binding protein HNRNPK was previously found to decrease prominently during senescence in human diploid fibroblasts. Here, analysis of the mechanisms leading to reduced HNRNPK abundance revealed that in cells undergoing senescence, mRNA levels declined transcriptionally and full-length HNRNPK protein was progressively lost, while the abundance of a truncated HNRNPK increased.

Faculty perceptions of a professional development program for developing CUREs and promoting inclusive and equitable teaching.

The Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) model can be used to explore how faculty prioritize learning about and adopting new pedagogical approaches. Here, we use the DOI framework to contextualize biology faculty perceptions of a professional development (PD) program designed to help them create a full semester course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) class at a large, public comprehensive university. PD sessions included exploring self-reflexive identity while fostering inclusive classroom spaces through understanding and interrupting implicit bias and microaggressions.

Spreading the Word: Communicating Evidence-Based Guidelines About Turner Syndrome to Patients, Parents, Providers, and Payors.

Given the overwhelming volume of medical information, medical guidelines play a key role in informing clinicians and payors and guidelines directly affect how patients, and their families will be treated. In this review, we describe the production cycle of international guidelines for Turner syndrome (TS) and promote the timely and proactive dissemination of these guidelines. We encourage deliberate adoption of an updated standard of care by providers, payors, patients and their families, and professional organizations.

Transcranial Doppler Arterial Pressure Gradient Is Associated With Delayed Infarction After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.

Background And Purpose: While the pulsatility index (PI) measured by transcranial Doppler (TCD) has broader associations with outcomes in neurocritical care, its use in monitoring delayed cerebral infarction (DCI) in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is not endorsed by current clinical guidelines. Recognizing that arterial pressure gradient (ΔP) can be estimated using PI, we investigated the potential significance of TCD-estimated ΔP.

Methods: In this observational study of 186 SAH patients, we recorded the mean cerebral blood flow velocity (mCBFV) and PI values from the middle cerebral artery, along with corresponding blood pressures.

We have investigated the adsorption of the amyloid-forming protein α-Synuclein (αSyn) onto small unilamellar vesicles composed of a mixture of zwitterionic POPC and anionic POPS lipids. αSyn monomers adsorb onto the anionic lipid vesicles where they adopt an α-helical secondary structure. The degree of adsorption depends on the fraction of anionic lipid in the mixed lipid membrane, but one needs to consider the electrostatic shift of the serine p with increasing fraction of POPS.
