Polymers are known to wet nanopores with high surface energy through an atomically thin precursor film followed by slower capillary filling. We present here light interference spectroscopy using a mesoporous membrane-based chip that allows us to observe the dynamics of these phenomena in situ down to the sub-nanometer scale at milli- to microsecond temporal resolution. The device consists of a mesoporous silicon film (average pore size 6 nm) with an integrated photonic crystal, which permits to simultaneously measure the phase shift of thin film interference and the resonance of the photonic crystal upon imbibition.

The Ataxia telangiectasia and RAD3-related (ATR) kinase is a key regulator of DNA replication stress responses and DNA-damage checkpoints. Several potent and selective ATR inhibitors are reported and four of them are currently in clinical trials in combination with radio- or chemotherapy. Based on the idea of degrading target proteins rather than inhibiting them, we designed, synthesized and biologically characterized a library of ATR-targeted proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTACs).

HDAC11 is a class IV histone deacylase with no crystal structure reported so far. The catalytic domain of HDAC11 shares low sequence identity with other HDAC isoforms, which makes conventional homology modeling less reliable. AlphaFold is a machine learning approach that can predict the 3D structure of proteins with high accuracy even in absence of similar structures.

Biased emotion processing has been suggested to underlie the etiology and maintenance of depression. Neuroimaging studies have shown mood-congruent alterations in amygdala activity in patients with acute depression, even during early, automatic stages of emotion processing. However, due to a lack of prospective studies over periods longer than 8 weeks, it is unclear whether these neurofunctional abnormalities represent a persistent correlate of depression even in remission.

Diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) are aquatic photosynthetic microalgae with an ecological role as primary producers in the aquatic food web. They account substantially for global carbon, nitrogen, and silicon cycling. Elucidating the chemical space of diatoms is crucial to understanding their physiology and ecology.

We report a series of 1,3-diphenylureido hydroxamate HDAC inhibitors evaluated against sensitive and drug-resistant P. falciparum strains. Compounds 8a-d show potent antiplasmodial activity, indicating that a phenyl spacer allows improved potency relative to cinnamyl and di-hydrocinnamyl linkers.

We aimed to assess the prognostic value of serum β-synuclein (β-syn), neurofilament light chain (NfL) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in patients with moderate-to-severe acute ischemic stroke. We measured β-syn, GFAP and NfL in serum samples collected one day after admission in 30 adult patients with moderate-to-severe ischemic stroke due to middle cerebral artery (MCA) occlusion. We tested the associations between biomarker levels and clinical and radiological scores (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale scores, NIHSS, and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score, ASPECTS), as well as measures of functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale, mRS).

Diabetes mellitus, a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, presents a formidable global health challenge with its associated complications. Adiponectin, an adipocyte-derived hormone, has emerged as a significant player in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Beyond its metabolic effects, adiponectin exerts anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and vasoprotective properties, making it an appealing therapeutic target for mitigating diabetic complications.

Primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (pHLH) is a life-threatening hyperinflammatory syndrome that develops mainly in patients with genetic disorders of lymphocyte cytotoxicity and X-linked lymphoproliferative syndromes. Previous studies with etoposide-based treatment followed by hematopoetic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) resulted in 5-year survival of 50% to 59%. Contemporary data are lacking.

Prevalence rates of peripartum depression and anxiety are high and correlate with adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBI) have been shown to reduce mental distress during pregnancy. A multicenter, randomized controlled study was conducted after screening for depressive symptoms.

Histone deacetylase 11 (HDAC11), an enzyme that cleaves acyl groups from acylated lysine residues, is the sole member of class IV of HDAC family with no reported crystal structure so far. The catalytic domain of HDAC11 shares low sequence identity with other HDAC isoforms which complicates the conventional template-based homology modeling. AlphaFold is a neural network machine learning approach for predicting the 3D structures of proteins with atomic accuracy even in absence of similar structures.

Introduction: Decision coaching is a non-directive approach to support patients to prepare for making health decisions. It is used to facilitate patients' involvement in informed values-based decision-making and use of evidence-based health information. A recent systematic review revealed low certainty evidence for its effectiveness with and without evidence-based information.

Although histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors show promise in treating various types of hematologic malignancies, they have some limitations, including poor pharmacokinetics and off-target side effects. Prodrug design has shown promise as an approach to improve pharmacokinetic properties and to improve target tissue specificity. In this work, several bioreductive prodrugs for class I HDACs were designed based on known selective HDAC inhibitors.

Concomitant Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology can be observed in approximately 10-15% of cases with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). ALS-AD patients have a higher prevalence of amnestic cognitive disturbances, which may often precede motor symptoms. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) AD core biomarkers usually show no or slightly significant changes in ALS, whereas blood phosphorylated tau protein might be increased independently from AD copathology.

Little is known about axillary node metastasis of medullary thyroid cancer (MTC). To address this, a comparative study of patients with and without axillary node metastases of MTC was conducted. Among 1215 consecutive patients with MTC, 482 patients had node-negative MTC and 733 patients node-positive MTC.

Phosphoric acid is commonly known either as a neutral molecule or as an anion (phosphate). We theoretically confirm by ab initio molecular dynamics simulations (AIMD) that a cationic form HPO coexists with the anionic form HPO in the same salt. This paradoxical situation is achieved by partial substitution of Cs by HPO in CsHPO.
