Does coiling of the proximal end of the ureteral stent affect stent-related symptoms?

World J Urol

December 2024

EAU Young Academic Urologists (YAU) Urolithiasis and Endourology Working Group Arnhem, Arnhem, NL-6803, The Netherlands.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of coiling of the proximal end of the ureteral stent on stent-related symptoms (SRS) in in subgroup of patients undergoing preoperative ureteral stenting preceding flexible retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS).

Materials And Methods: We performed a prospective comparative study including patients undergoing stent placement 7-10 days prior to RIRS. Patients were divided into 2 groups; in Group 1 coiling of proximal end of the DJ was present, while in Group 2 coiling was absent.

Unlabelled: 3 M syndrome is a well-known autosomal recessive skeletal genetic disorder caused by biallelic pathogenic variants in the CUL7, OBSL1, and CCDC8 genes. Affected individuals exhibit profound pre- and postnatal growth retardation, distinctive facial features with normal intelligence. This study aims to provide insight into the comprehensive evaluation of clinical, laboratory, and radiological findings, expand the mutational spectrum of the disease, and establish a genotype-phenotype correlation in the present cases.

Background: Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is rarer in children (chILD) than adults, but with increasing diagnostic awareness, more cases are being discovered. chILD prognosis is often poor, but increasing numbers are now surviving into adulthood.

Aim: To characterize chILD-survivors and identify their impact on adult-ILD centers.

Background: Liver retraction management in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is challenging for surgeons, especially in patients with enlarged livers. Traditional methods, such as the Nathanson retractor (NR), often necessitate additional incisions, potentially increasing liver enzymes and increasing the risk of complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the use of a Veress needle (VN), an alternative liver retraction technique, in LSG surgery compared with NR.

Purpose: Reducing renal ischemia is crucial for the function and survival of grafts from nonheartbeat donors, as it leads to inflammatory responses and tubulointerstitial damage. The primary concern with organs from nonheartbeat donors is the long warm ischemia period and reperfusion injury following renal transplantation. This study had two main goals; one goal is to determine how Necrostatin-1 targeting the PANoptosome affects PANoptosis in the nonheart-beating donor rat model.

Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, Marmara University, Istanbul, Turkey; Istanbul Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic and Research Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies, Istanbul, Turkey; Isil Berat Barlan Center for Translational Medicine, Istanbul, Turkey. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • STAT3 gain-of-function disease causes issues like immune system overactivity and growth problems, but long-term treatment with the JAK inhibitor ruxolitinib has shown promise in symptom relief.
  • The study monitored clinical and immune responses of four patients over a year, noting significant changes in T cell populations and the normalization of blood cell profiles, which were previously dysregulated.
  • Ruxolitinib treatment not only managed symptoms but also modified harmful immune cell characteristics and reduced certain auto-reactive T-cell clones, suggesting a potential pathway to better control the disease's impact.

Purpose: Although burnout among audiologists has been studied in various countries, there is no research yet that examines this issue in Türkiye, where working conditions and sociodemographic factors may differ from those in other countries. Considering the unique working conditions and sociodemographic factors, this study aimed to investigate the burnout levels of Turkish audiologists. Additionally, this study will explore the impact of various sociodemographic variables on burnout, work-related quality of life, and depression to gain a deeper understanding of the specific challenges faced by audiologists in Türkiye.

This study evaluated the effects of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) using different universal adhesives on microtensile bond strength (μTBS) of pretreated monolithic translucent tetragonal polycrystalline zirconia-based CAD/CAM restoration to dentin and microscopic morphological alterations. Mid-coronal dentin were obtained from 32 human molars and randomly allocated into 8 groups according to the presence/absence of IDS, universal adhesives for IDS (Single Bond Universal/SBU, Clearfil Quick Bond/CUQ, Optibond Universal/OBU) and zirconia surface pretreatments (tribochemical silica coating-30 μm CoJet particles/TSC, sandblasting-50 μm AlO/SB): Group TSC, Group TSC+SBU, Group TSC+CUQ, Group TSC+OBU, Group SB, Group SB+SBU, Group SB+CUQ, Group SB+OBU. CAD/CAM restorations (Lava Plus High Translucency Zirconia Disc) were produced, luted, and subjected to 10.

Background: This study aims to identify factors predicting recurrence and unfavorable prognosis in cN+ patients who have undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: The retrospective multi-centre "MF18-02" and the prospective multi-centre cohort registry trial "MF18-03" (NCT04250129) included patients with cT1-4N1-3M0 with SLNB+/- axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) post-NAC.

Results: A total of 2407 cN+ patients, who later achieved cN0 status after NAC and subsequently underwent SLNB, were studied.

Designing new compounds from existing chemotherapeutic drugs to enhance inhibitory effects on tumor cells while overcoming multidrug resistance is one of the important strategies for new drug discovery in medicinal chemistry. A new series of urea and thiourea derivatives based on Lenalidomide as potential anticancer agents have been designed and synthesized. In vitro anticancer activity assay against Caki cancer cells and HUVEC endothelial cells revealed that 1-(4-methylphenyl)-3-[2-(2,6-dioxopiperidin-3-yl)-1-oxoisoindolin-4-yl]urea (11) exhibited the highest anticancer activity and selectivity in the series with IC values of 9.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the biological properties and chemical profiles of chickweed extracts using various solvents and advanced techniques like UHPLC/MS/MS.
  • Twelve phenolic compounds, primarily flavonoids, were identified, with the water extract showing the best antioxidant capabilities and the ethyl acetate extract showing strong enzyme-inhibiting effects.
  • The findings suggest chickweed could be a valuable resource for developing products in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical sectors due to its significant cytotoxic effects and potential mechanisms of action against cancer-related targets.

Methylthio Substituent in SAM Constructing Regulatory Bridge with Photovoltaic Perovskites.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

Institute of Functional Nano & Soft Materials (FUNSOM), Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Advanced Negative Carbon Technologies, Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Carbon-Based Functional Materials & Devices, Soochow University, Suzhou, 215123, China.

Inverted (p-i-n) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have experienced remarkable advancements in recent years, which is largely attributed to the development of novel hole-transport layer (HTL) self-assembled monolayer (SAM) materials. Methoxy (MeO-) groups are typically introduced into SAM materials to enhance their wettability and effectively passivate the perovskite buried interface. However, MeO-based SAM materials exhibit a mismatch in highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) levels with perovskite layer due to the strong electron-donating capability of methoxy group.

Introduction: Craniosynostosis, marked by premature skull suture closure, manifests as isolated or syndromic cases. While isolated cases are more common, syndromic craniosynostoses are associated with a range of complications. This study aims to compare postoperative outcomes in isolated and syndromic craniosynostosis, hypothesizing greater complications in the latter.
