Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a critical global health issue characterized by perturbance in cerebral function attributed to mechanical force. TBI often precipitates significant visual impairment that negatively impacts the patients' quality of life. This review examines the effects of TBI on visual function from a neuro-ophthalmological perspective, focusing on the assessment, diagnostics, and management of associated sequelae.

Sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of obstructive sleep apnea: The Turkish sleep apnea database (TURKAPNE) cohort.

Background: Previous reports from relatively small clinical cohorts have suggested that the clinical presentation of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) differs between men and women.

Objective: We aimed to explore sex differences in clinical and polysomnographic features of OSA in a large nationwide registry.

Methods: Participants from the ongoing Turkish Sleep Apnea Database (TURKAPNE) Study from 34 centers were included in the current analysis.

This study searched for conventional tertiary amines with low to medium basicity as initiators to control reaction rates and tailor industrial applications. Challenges arise from the stronger basicity of initiators, leading to an uncontrollable and short curing application period.

An uncommon variant, Warthin‑like papillary thyroid carcinoma: A case report.

The most prevalent form of thyroid cancer is papillary thyroid carcinoma, of which warthin-like papillary thyroid carcinoma (WLPTC) is an uncommon variant. The symptoms, diagnosis and course of treatment for this subtype of papillary thyroid cancer are comparable to those of the classic variety. It is usually associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and is considered to have a favourable prognosis.

DMFT-Related Dental Plaque Scoring by Using Different Imaging Systems.

Objective: This study aimed to compare dental plaque scores measured using clinical examination and different imaging methods.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-eight volunteers were included in the study and divided into two groups according to DMFT (D: Decayed, M: Missing, F: Filling, T: Teeth) scores (under 3 and over 10). Dental plaque on anterior labial surfaces' was scored using clinical visual examination with/without staining and different imaging systems (Digital photography, intraoral digital scanning, FluoreCam).

Prone positioning for acute respiratory failure after PEA: an initial experience.

The ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have led to a substantial influx of Syrian refugees, exposing them to severe traumatic experiences and contributing to a range of mental health issues. This systematic review examines psychotherapeutic interventions employed in psychological treatment studies with Syrian refugees, focusing on 22 articles identified across Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect. The review highlights the need for psychotherapeutic intervention for Syrian refugees due to the high prevalence of post-traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, grief, and loss which results from an increased risk of various forms of violence and exploitation.

Antenatal Diagnosis and Treatment in Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Due to 21-hydroxylase Deficiency and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Screening in Newborns.

Signs of virilization, such as clitoromegaly, labio-scrotal fusion, and urogenital sinus may be observed in females with 21-hydroxylase deficiency (21-OHD) and other rare virilizing forms of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH). This makes sex determination difficult, and multiple reconstructive surgeries in the postnatal period may be required. As 21-OHD is an autosomal recessive disease, the chance of any child being affected is one in four and so only one in eight will be an affected female.

The impact of central sensitization-related symptoms on subacromial steroid injection outcomes in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome: an observational study.

Methods: A total of 82 sexually active patients aged 18 years or over who had undergone microscopic subinguinal varicocelectomy with a clinical diagnosis of varicocele in 14 urology clinics between October 2021 and March 2023 with primary infertility were evaluated prospectively Patients were evaluated using the Turkish validated form of the 'Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool' (PEDT) scale. A PEDT score of 11 or above was taken to indicate the presence of PE.

Accuracy of laser fluorescence in assessment of various caries removal techniques: an in vitro validation.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of laser fluorescence (LF) readings in detection of caries removal by various techniques (CRTs).

Methods: A hundred and eighty extracted human molar teeth included in the study which were scored 3, 4, and 5 according to ICDAS. Each score group was randomly assigned to 4 subgroups according to CRT including ceramic bur (Group A), carbide bur (Group B), carbide bur with alumina abrasion (Group C), and carbide bur with bioactive glass (BAG) abrasion (Group D) (n = 15 for each group).

Nonstenotic carotid artery plaques on computed tomography angiography in embolic stroke of undetermined source.

This study aims to evaluate the role of <50% stenotic cervical carotid artery plaques in embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS), focusing on plaque characteristics in symptomatic versus asymptomatic carotid arteries (contralateral). In this cross-sectional observational study, 81 patients who met the diagnostic criteria for ESUS and underwent were retrospectively analyzed. Carotid plaques causing <50% stenosis were examined, noting features such as plaque thickness, degree of luminal stenosis, irregularity, ulceration, calcification, and hypodensity.

Evaluation of vascular peroxidase 1, humanin, MOTS-c and miR-200c expression levels in untreated preeclampsia patients.

Background: The objective of this study was to evaluate the levels of Vascular Peroxidase 1 (VPO1), humanin, and MOTS-c in relation to miR-200c expression in untreated preeclamptic pregnancies, and to compare these findings with endoglin levels.

Methods And Results: In this study, blood samples were collected from preeclamptic patients presenting to the clinic prior to the initiation of treatment. The levels of endoglin, VPO1, humanin, and MOTS-c were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), while miR-200c expression was quantified using reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

The First Case of Autosomal Recessive Cerebellar Ataxia with Prominent Paroxysmal Non-kinesigenic Dyskinesia Caused by a Truncating FGF14 Variant in a Turkish Patient.

Background: ATX-FGF/SCA27A has been exclusively associated with heterozygous variants in the FGF14 gene, presenting with postural tremor, slowly progressive cerebellar ataxia, and psychiatric and behavioral disturbances.

Objectives: This study describes the first case of ATX-FGF/SCA27A linked to a biallelic frameshift variant in the FGF14 gene.

Methods: Whole-exome sequencing (WES) was conducted using the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 platform, and the identified variant was confirmed using Sanger sequencing.

Examination of Risk Factors Affecting the Development of BSI and Mortality in Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients Hospitalized in Intensive Care Unit (ICU): A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

Background: Various studies have shown that the incidence of BSI is greater in COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Aims: Our study aimed to determine the risk factors for BSI, mortality rates, and factors affecting mortality in adult COVID-19 patients hospitalized in the ICU.

Methods: All COVID-19 patients who met the study criteria and stayed in intensive care for more than 2 days at a tertiary university hospital during the two-year pandemic period were included in the study.

The 6-Item Self-Efficacy Scale in Chronic Disease Management in Women With Endometriosis: A Turkish Validity and Reliability Study.

Objective: This study aimed to adapt the 6-Item Self-Efficacy Scale for Chronic Disease Management (SEMDC-6S) to women with endometriosis in the Turkish population and to evaluate its validity and reliability.

Methods: This methodological study comprised of 200 women with endometriosis. The construct validity of the scale was tested using the confirmatory factor analysis methods.

The in vitro synergistic and antibiofilm activity of Ceftazidime/avibactam against Achromobacter species recovered from respiratory samples of cystic fibrosis patients.

Purpose: Achromobacter spp. may form biofilm in patients' respiratory tracts and cause serious infections. This research examined the bactericidal and synergistic effects of ceftazidime/avibactam (CZA) alone and in combination with different antibiotics against Achromobacter spp.

Clinical and molecular genetic characteristics of patients with hereditary hypophosphatemia.

Background: Hereditary hypophosphatemia (HH), is a rare condition related to decreased renal tubular phosphate reabsorption. Although X-linked hypophosphatemia or PHEX gene variant is the most frequent cause of HH, recent advances in next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques enable the identification of genetic etiologies as a whole.

Objective: To identify genetic causes of HH using various genetic testing methods and to compare clinical features between FGF23-dependent and FGF23-independent HH groups.
