Alcohol use disorder remains a major health problem. The mesocorticolimbic dopaminergic system, including the nucleus accumbens region and multiple neural circuits, is involved in its complex underlying mechanism. For instance, alcohol intake stimulates the central and peripheral renin-angiotensin system and increases angiotensin II levels, which predominantly affect angiotensin 1 receptors both in the periphery and in the brain.

Over the last two decades there is a growing interest in the adult literature for subtalar joint arthroereisis. Parallel to this interest, there have been improvements in the design and biomechanics of the implant, although the main indication of subtalar joint arthroereisis in adults is not clear. Most studies show significant improvement in postoperative clinical scores and visual analog scores.

Background: Kidney recipients maintaining a prolonged allograft survival in the absence of immunosuppressive drugs and without evidence of rejection are supposed to be exceptional. The ERA-EDTA-DESCARTES working group together with Nantes University launched a European-wide survey to identify new patients, describe them and estimate their frequency for the first time.
Methods: Seventeen coordinators distributed a questionnaire in 256 transplant centres and 28 countries in order to report as many 'operationally tolerant' patients (TOL; defined as having a serum creatinine <1.

Objective: Gender differences, especially in disease severity, are observed in Behçet's disease (BD), a systemic vasculitis of unknown etiology. To determine the putative role of testosterone on neutrophil activity exhibited by patients with BD, peripheral blood neutrophils were examined in vitro before and after treatment with testosterone.
Methods: Peripheral blood neutrophils of 49 patients with BD (26M:23F), 33 patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) (23M:10F), 8 female patients with hirsutism and 31 healthy individuals (19M:12F) were analyzed by flow cytometry.

A case with primary malignant melanoma located in the posterior lower third of the vagina was encountered and treated by surgery, postoperative immunotherapy and chemotherapy. The tumor was close to the anal sphincter and posterior exenteration was done to achieve tumor-free surgical margins. The need for such radical treatment prompted us to review the literature and discuss our case with the rarest localization of the tumor in the vagina.

The role of gender and the menstrual cycle in small bowel motility has not been clearly elucidated. Jejunal motility was recorded with a nasojejunal catheter incorporating five solid-state pressure transducers in ambulatory menstruating women and men of comparable age over 24 h. All women were studied twice, in the early follicular (early-F) and midluteal (mid-L) phases of the menstrual cycle, verified by determining serum levels of gonadal steroids and gonadotropins.
