Titanium-Niobium (TiNb) alloys are commonly employed in a number of implantable devices, yet concerns exist regarding their use in implantology owing to the biomechanical mismatch between the implant and the host tissue. Therefore, to balance the mechanical performance of the load-bearing implant with bone, TiNb alloys with differing porosities were fabricated by powder metallurgy combined with spacer material. Microstructures and phase constituents were characterized with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD).

Two novel anthracene derivatives were synthesized, and detailed photo-physical and biological investigations were carried out using a variety of spectroscopy techniques. The effect of cyano (-CN) substitution was found to be effective to alter the charge population and frontier orbital energy levels Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations. Particularly, the introduction of styryl and triphenylamine groups attached to the anthracene core helped to increase the conjugation relative to the anthracene moiety.

The aim of this study was to valorize herbal dust, a particular fraction distinguished as an industrial waste from filter-tea production. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) was used with the aim of overcoming certain obstacles of conventional extraction techniques in terms of shortening extraction time, reducing solvent consumption and energy costs, using "green" solvents and obtaining high yield and quality products. The recovery of α-tocopherol and β-sitosterol from the deodorizer distillate of sunflower oil using solid phase extraction is reported. Increasing marine traffic, over 55,000 ships visit per year, through the Turkish Straits System and the Sea of Marmara, produces a yearly average of 12 illegal oil discharges. This paper documents the comparison of chemical fingerprints of spilled oil with suspected sources of oils for identifying the source of illegal pollution in Turkey's seas. Fingerprinting is initiated by comparison of the synchronous fluorescence spectra (Δ=20 or 15 nm) of fugitive and suspected source oils.

A rapid and simple LC-MS/MS method was developed and optimized for screening and confirmation of triphenylmethane dyes including malachite green (MG), leucomalachite green (LMG), crystal violet (CV), leucocrystal violet (LCV) and brilliant green (BG) in fish muscle with skin. Leucocrystal violet D6 (LCV-D6) and leucomalachite green-D5 (LMG D5) was used as internal standards.
