Dietary diversity is recognized as a key indicator of dietary quality and is known to affect the burden of non-communicable diseases. This study examined the gender-stratified association between dietary diversity score (DDS) and risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in 5468 adults aged 40−69 years during a 12-year follow-up of the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES). DDS was calculated according to the consumption of the five food groups based on the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) for Koreans.

The tropical estuarine ecosystem is fascinating for studying the dynamics of water quality and phytoplankton diversity due to its frequently changing hydrological conditions. Most importantly, phytoplankton is the main supplier of ω3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) in the coastal food web for fish as they could not synthesize PUFA. This study evaluated seasonal variations of water quality parameters in the Meghna River estuary (MRE), explored how phytoplankton diversity changes according to hydro-chemical parameters, and identified the major phytoplankton groups as the main source of PUFA for hilsa fish.

In this study, we use the sample data from Jan 22, 2020 to Jan 21, 2022 to investigate the impacts of added infection number on the volatility of BDI. Under this structure, the control variables (freight rate, Brent crude oil price, container idle rate, port congestion level, global port calls) are added to test whether the information contained in the added infection number is covered. In the GARCH-MIDAS model, we divide the volatility of BDI into the long-term and short-term components, then employ in the least squares regression to empirically test the influences of added infection number on the volatility.

This study suggests a conceptual framework for multidisciplinary understanding of urban heating by reviewing 147 selected articles from various fields, published between 2007 and 2021, that discuss urban heating mitigation.

The comparative method is adopted to analyze the management measures taken by the "Diamond Princess", "Costa Serena", "Westerdam" and "Grand Princess" cruises in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and then to summarize the common dilemmas faced by these cruise ships, including defects of their internal environment, unclear health-care obligations during an epidemic, weak collaboration between the parties involved and their limited performance, and widespread infodemic and unfavorable public opinion.

In this paper, the propagation characteristics of vibration waves in periodic pipelines were studied based on the band theory of phononic crystals, and we analyzed the influence of the geometrical structure parameters on the band gap characteristics of pipelines. The results show that, by increasing the number of layers of local resonant structure, both the initial frequency and the cutoff frequency of the band gap moved towards the lower frequency, while the width of the system band gap increased by 35 Hz, and the damping effect increased by 18.3 dB.

Concentrations of Cd, Hg, Pb, As, Al, Cu, Fe, and Zn were determined in the muscles of wild and farmed European seabass in Sinop markets between September and December in 2020, using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry after microwave digestion. In the study, iron (Fe), zinc (Zn), aluminum (Al), and copper (Cu) were found higher than the other metals both in wild and cultured Dicentrarchus labrax. These are essential elements, but excess amounts act as a poison.
